I had some shortness of breath yesterday and a tighness in my chest and so left my office to go to my docter who is actually located only minutes away. She saw me immediately and I had an E,C.G. test and other things. I won't bore you with the details of health problems but after the tests were completed she said that 35.3% of the population are hypertensive? Don't you think that this figure is alarmingly high?
She said that as we are a mixed race culture on the Island, that some of this is obviously genetic. But it is amazingly high. I am wondering that becasue of a 25% rise in food this ytear if this is the cause. Because in hard times people tend to eat more starchy foods as fruits and vegetables are very expensive.
Is hypertension a problem in your country/area? If so, is it genetic or poor eating coupled with a sedentary lifestyle?

i hope u are feeling better. hypertension is a problem here w/many people. i think it's just everything rolled up together.people have way too much to worry them. i'm sure your diet effects it also especially if your intake of salt is high. take care of yourself.

We all have health problems - I knew that i had a cardio problem and it is only a little worse as an irregular heart beat is now an added problem. Nothing like what most peole go through. I think though that hypertension is reallya silent killer and the disease of this century. Have you noticed tha tlamost everyone yo meet is hypertensive? Harder to deal with stress when yoiu are older and I think that this is my problem. Blessings.

it makes absolute sense, high blood pressure can be genetic, and it is also associated with weight and dietary concerns,
almost half of the people in canada and the usa have it and most of these people are overweight, myself included.

Stress is the cause of my cardio problems - pure unmitigated stress. The person I work for is horrible but I am old and need the job. This is enough to cause cardio problems. Everyone I know is worried about how they are going to make it day by day. The Island is tiny and noine hundred people lost their jobs yesterday. We do not have unemployment benefit so they have to depend on relatives for help. world wide stress problems I guess

No really bodhi, I do have a lot of work to get through as the accounts have to be audited by the Auditr before the AGM in JUne. I do have an irregular heart beat which will be further investigated when I get an appointment with a cardiologist. Nothing too serious at present. Thank you for asking

I hope that your tests turned out good for you. by the way, what island are you on? Hypertension is common in the states, that's for sure! Weight and food have a lot to do with it. Also, it could be hereditary. I don't have it, even when I'm very nervous or upset, my pressure is still normal. Guess I'm pretty lucky. You have a point about the economy too, but hypertension has been around long before our economic problems!! Too much salt is bad too...Hope you're okay...

The test proved more or less what I had expected and a further expensive one has to be done to see if my arteries are blocked. I amoverweight as I am a stress eater and although I should be retired I do have a full time job and a part time one too. My boss is the cause of some of my health problems as he is not a nice human being. I live in Jamaica and was from the U.K. My cardio problems are genetic though but obviously my weight has made it worse so I am not on a mega diet to lose 20lbs quickly. I have always avoided a high salt diet too. Many thanks

I have to watch my eating habits as they haven't helped with my high bp. It is also hereditary in my family. Blessings
