A Lovely Bouquet of Lilacs ~ they are killing my allergies!

When I was younger I would pick a big bunch of lilacs for my Grandmother or my Mother and bring them to them to put on the table. The scent of them was heavenly. As a child I can also recall picking the flowers one by one and sucking the sweet nectar from the base of the stem. Yesterday I picked a big bunch of lilacs and brought them home with me. I put them in a nice purple vase and placed it on the kitchen counter. It brightened up the place so well. After an hour I noticed that my chest felt heavy, my eyes itched and burned, and my nose was stuffy. Of course that was quickly followed by a headache. My allergies decided to kick into overdrive! I had to remove the flowers from the kitchen and place them in the guest bathroom. Just a few minutes ago I realized that I am getting a bit of a headache and sneezing quite a bit. The computer room is close to the guest bathroom. Ughhh! Time to log off the computer and head to the living room and relax a bit. Is there something of great beauty and fragrance that you enjoy that causes your allergies to kick back?

Nope, I am lucky that way. I know going down the laundry isle at the store bothers me, way to many fragrances in one place. My mom and I just took a big bunc to my grandmas grave for Mother's Day. I always took my grandma a big bunch for Mother's Day. They do smell heavenly

Laundry detergents, especially original Tide, always did bother me. Even when I was too young to label it as an allergy. I always got headaches from Tide.

We went to Yankee Candle one day and I had to leave shortly after we arrived. There were so many scents going on at once that I was knocked for a loop.

I don't think so. I don't think that there is anything I am allergic to that is beautiful smelling and appearance. Pollen gets my allergies to going but I think it does everybodies, and dust is the same way, but other then that I am just not sure what gets my allergies all wacky. I can't take penicilin as far as I know but that's neither here nor there.

It has to be hard having to stay away from something so sweet and that has so many wonderful memories tied to it . I have allergies and I know how they can make you feel . When we lived in Indiana my allergies would go nutty , I guess it was because we had alot of farms and corn around us . I would also have alot of asthma attacks in Indiana . Since weve been living in Mexico near the ocean I have been doing much better . I'm not sure if it is the sea air , or if I'm just growing out of all the asthma and allergies . Maybe someday your allergies will go away and you will be able to enjoy the lilacs again.. We can hope .

Man, what a thing to be allergic too, huh? I remember always picking Lilacs and having them around when I was younger as well. I would Love to live near some Lilacs and pick them, but not sure where to find them. But Sorry to hear about your allergies to them. Maybe you will just have to give up, and not bring them in the house. Hope you feel better soon.

~sigh~ I know that I will have to view them from afar. I just wanted to bring them inside for one more try. It failed.

I think this is a particularly potent year for pollen of all kinds.

The pollen has been quite high this year. Tree pollen especially! And I just can't seem to keep myself inside when it is a nice day so I suffer!

That's too bad!!!! They are so very beautiful! I love lilacs but would find myself in the same position. My daughter visited for the weekend....she came from Arizona to Minnesota and all our trees have blossoms on them right now....she was miserable!

Rain, I used to dance and walk in the rain. Now it causes me sinus infections if I do that. I used to like different scents. Most make me get sinus problems. Menopause has made everything way worse.

Menopause! I am finding that many things I have once enjoyed are now curtailed because of that curse!

I am so sorry that you are allergic. It is aggarvating when that happens. It sounds like you may have to move then again.

Hi ElusiveButterfly.....I just absolutely love the smell of lilacs. We have three big bushes of them in our yard that are just getting ready to come out. I can't wait until I can get a big bouquet of them and bring it in the house. They just make the whole house smell springy. flutterby

I guess I will have to leave mine outdoors and enjoy them from afar. They are lovely flowers when in bloom.
