why are discussions about gay marriage etc tagged "mature content"?

Why is that? How is talking about homosexuals or gay marriage etc "mature content"? I think that everyone on here is an adult and so therefore i do not see why it would be labeled to talk about something that is just a way of life for so many people, I can understand other topics that can get explicit being labeled "mature content" but not about gay marriage etc.....i find it offensive because i feel its putting a connotation that its a "dirty" topic

It has to do with the option to allow or not allow "mature topics" on our profiles. If your preferences set on "allow mature topics" the tag means nothing at all. But there are people who would rather not be exposed to mature topics, and shouldn't have to wade through the mature topics to find topics they do want to discuss.

Hmmmm maybe they prefer to consider it as a mature content simply because children and other minority are not allowed or ready for discussions about gay marriage.
since they're kids, you simply don't wanna corrupt their minds.it isn't a dirty but mature topic that not even kids should be discussing, like the male-female marriage itself which is also mature content for kids..but since am mature, i believe it's not dirty topic.

Lucky I checked I was going to respond along that line. Age is just a number some adults are just as immature as "under 18" when it comes to gay in general. I think it means mature "minded" content.

That is a very good question. Also, if gay marriage is mature content, then I think straight marriage, and marriage in general should be flagged as mature content. To put gay marriage as mature content but not do the same with straight marriage is a case of descrimination, and needs to be stopped.
