When the Stars Starts to Fall... What Should We Do?

I thought this is impossible but it just happened to me. Look at my stats now: I have a brown star (3) one from a yellow star (9). I tumbled down to 911 (oops... I am now dialing that line) from ranked 8 in one of my "Interests". And this happened in a span of 20 hours or less! Don't worry guys. I am not angry or disappointed or feeling downm. I am just baffled and want to know what could have shoot my star and pulled my rank into the gorge. Got any idea? Many are saying that reputation/star rating is affected by how others rate us. But can it really go that down fast? And how about the ranking? Have I done something wrong? Is this not a technical glitch? What do you think should I do? Should I contact myLot to check what really happened? Should I just ignore this? How will I know what mistakes did I commit so I could avoid doing them again?

It also happened to me once. I posted a discussion related to this topic also and most of the responses I received told me that maybe I posted responses which irritated other members. So that's it! Why do I care if my star falls down so as long as I am being myself and expressed my own views and opinions?what I am pointing out is that we are free to express whatever ideas we have, so what if other people won't like it. They said that when others rate you negative it causes sometimes to fall your stars down. Don't worry about it, let it be if that is so. Just be honest with your opinion never mind if it suited or not with others. When I noticed that my stars down before, I just shrugged it off and continued with my activities here in my lot.

Do you have any idea how many members can be possibly irritated by a single post in a single unpopular thread? With lots of threads being created here every hour and each of us having varied opinion, don't you think there is no deliberate attempt by an individual or a group when one's ratings dropped down that much? I understand going down a notch or two is a normal thing but 5 levels down in a star rating and from rank 8 to 900+... I am also thinking of just letting this thing go but if it will help to keep this community kick out some "trolls", I think this ought to be reported.

Yeah, you are right, just feel free to express thoughts, opinions or views. I don't know why there are some who do not respect the opinion of others and just give it a negative rating. In return, the reputation of the rogue user will also decline.

I find in next to impossible that your star fell from an 8 or 9 to a 3 in the course of a day or two without someone deliberately targeting you. I would be contacting myLot and complaining looking for an explanation and an assurance that you have not been the target of some malicious user or group. There are trolls around here that seem to have nothing better to do than drag others down to their level. Nobody can tell you what happened other than the administration, and nobody can fix it other than the administration. I would not leave this too long either, as the trolls might be doing this to others.

If it went down that fast maybe you pissed some people off. Though I could always be wrong. Do you happen to go into discussions that get heated, like debates, religion, abortion, and the like? When you respond to discussions (as well as start your own) are you polite or do you let words fly? Sorry, I haven't followed any of your discussions or responses, so I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm only asking these questions because I've seen others reputations go down before (though never this quickly) and it is usually due to at least one of the things I mentioned. What should you do? I'm not exactly sure, but I don't think contacting mylot will help. Best of luck in getting your star back up.

Hello friend. Well, many had rated you negative and that was a big loss in your reputation. Maybe you had posted an opinion that many do not agree with you. According to guidelines, even the user do not agree with the post as long as it is related to topic, rate it positive. But in fact, many users do not follow this and just give negative rating when they found a response in which they did not agree with. Don't worry, you can still recover your reputation. I started on that brown star when I reached 100 posts. Just keep on posting quality discussions and responses. And you may avoid those discussions in which all of us have different beliefs and opinions like politics and religion. I don't know why some do not respect other's opinion and just give a negative rating. Happy mylotting and have a nice day!

I was not that active here in the last few days and I only posted in neutral topics, as in "what is favorite color?" I wonder how such type of discussions generate disagreement... And you know what, I am actually avoiding posting in religion discussions because I thought that's where I got my "unknown enemy-stalker" before. I am not worried much about the ratings/reputation. It's just that, I love the yellow and blue stars. Brown is okay but it's a little bit boring.

I never really worry abou tmy rating as I can't please everyone anyway. I don't even try. Mine has gone up and down a few times, but not as much as yours did. I have had negative ratings, and also positive ratings. I like being here no matter what, and I feel that if someone gives me a nagative rating, that I probably deserved it. I do the best I can, but for some it isn't enough, but ou know, not a biggy anyway. I come in here to have fun and not be a stick in the muc lol. If I worried about my ratings, I would be shedding lots of tears that is for sure. It just isn't all that important, because I know that I can and would recover from it anyway, and I have done that a few times. I can't get much higher than what I am now, but it isn't for lack of trying. I am just not going to worry and just continue to do my best, and take whatever comes. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I can take negative rating and very low rankings. But I don't like seeing others being treated unfairly. I mean, if one is contributing to the discussion at hand, why would he/she be rated negatively? Worst, others who are not in the discussion conveniently dropped in just to give a negative rating.

I would look over the responses and discussion from yesterday. Did you give any irrelevant answers? Did you give any off topic discussions? Did you violate any of the myLot guidelines? All of those things can cause people to rate you poorly. It is possible to lose rank that quickly. But that also means it is possible to gain your rank back quickly! I would keep posting with good, detailed responses and good, relevant discussions. That way people should start to give you positive ratings again. In the FAQ it states: myLot has taken precautions to significantly minimize the impact of rogue users harming your myLot reputation by repeatedly rating you negatively. In fact, this kind of behavior will only harm the user who does the inappropriate negative rating. To be clear, it is impossible for one rogue user to significantly damage the myLot reputation of another user. That means there must have been something that you did that a lot of people found inappropriate. I wouldnt be too worried about it. You can get your rank back. Just keep at!

Did you give any irrelevant answers? Did you give any off topic discussions? Did you violate any of the myLot guidelines? To my knowledge, my answer is no. No. No. I only did less than 10 posts/comments here yesterday. But other can go to older posts and still rate them, right? As for the rogue users, are they automatically detected by myLot or we have to report them?

You do not have to report rogue users. They are detected automatically. Something else to consider, also from the FAQ: Why did my user rating go down? You will see this quite often in myLot. This usually happens when a discussion, response, or comment that you started, replied to, or commented on has been deleted. The best way to avoid this is to understand our guidelines and terms and not create or reply to discussions that are in violation.

It is my habit reading TOS and FAQs when joining a site. So I assure you that I am aware of myLot guidelines. I also make sure a thread is a real discussion before joining. The problem is, I am not listing every topic I responded to, so how will I know which among them made a violation? Thanks for reminding us of the FAQ anyway. I only wish we have a list of deleted posts we started or replied so we can learn more if we are part of the violation or just a collateral damage.

Hi I'm new here and I this is the first time a heard that stars may fall too. I already imagined having a star but it didn't crossed my mind that I could possible get negative reputation that might lead to falling star. I guess that advices here for you is enough. If you are going to ask me, it's better to ask and understand what happened than to be contented and be blinded what's the reason behind it. At least if you know at the end of it, you will learn and if ever you committed a mistake, you will never do it again. :)
