Highway Robbery

Last week, Hubby and I took a short vacation. On the way home, we stopped at a truck stop for breakfast. I had an order of toast(2 slices) and an order of sausage(2 small patties)and, a drink.Hubby had 2 biscuits with gravy and bacon (again, 2 slices), and coffee. When we got through eating. I handed him a 20 and went to the restroom, and wandered around for a few minutes. After about 30 minutes on the road, I was doing some quick calculations in my head, and asked Hubby how much breakfast had cost. He said, " I got 54 cents back." From the 20? Really? Yep. Are you kidding me? Nope. I was livid. Turn the car around and go back. I want to talk to that manager! He laughed. I told him I was serious. He wouldn't even consider it to get me to shut up! We were more than 30 miles away from the place, and he doesn't back track. Can you imagine? They charged me almost $10 for 2 pieces of bread and 2 thin pieces of sausage, and a drink! Would YOU have gone back, or would you have just shrugged it off and vowed never to stop at the place again?

Well, what I ordered were side items and there were no prices on those. I should have asked, I know. Won't happen again, though. I would pay you that much, if you made me a full breakfast, sugar! Bet I probably went through, or got close to where you are a couple of years ago. Shoulda looked ya up, huh?*L*

THEBOHEMIANHEART! NO! I WOULD HAVE QUESTION THE EXTRAVAGANCE OF THE BILL FROM THE START. wHY DIDN'T YOUR HUSBAND DO SO? WHY DIDN'T YOU PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE PRICES LISTED FOR THE ITEMS YOU ORDERED. THAT IS WHERE YOU HAVE ONLY YOURSELF TO BLAME, NOT THE RESTAURANT. I AGREE THAT IT WAS HIGHWAY ROBBERY BUT AT LEAST YOU GOT AWAY WITH YOUR LIVES INTACT.

Nah, I wouldn't have gone back. Not after I'd ordered, eaten and then left. If I was going to say something, I would have complained when looking at the menu and prices in the first place. That's a ridiculous charge for what you got though! Maybe there was a pearl hidden in one of the sausages, but you accidentally ate it? lol. I would never eat at the place again, that's for sure. You should've bought some roadside mountain oysters instead Diddly. Much cheaper!

What I had were side items and the prices weren't on the menu. I didn't think to ask because it is usually not that much. I didn't look at the ticket, and Hubby obviously didn't think anything was amiss, since he paid the tab without questioning it. I admit, it was my fault for not checking things out first, but ........it won't happen again, that's for sure.

I would have gone back...oh wait...I wouldn't have left. It does sound pretty steep really. A couple of weeks ago I took 2 of my daughters and myself out for breakfast. I got eggs, sausage, toast and coffee, one daughter got the same only with juice and the 3rd got pancakes, bacon, juice....it came to less than 20.00. Now this afternoon, I stopped at mcdonalds and got a coffee ...had a coupon for a free one and a cheeseburger off the dollar menu and an order of brownie melts for my daughter. It came to 8++. I questioned it and the girl had rang the order in twice and not calculated the coupon. In the end, I handed her 4 and got change back.

If I had picked up the ticket and looked at it, I would have questioned it right then and there. But, I didn't look at it, since it was put down on Hubby's side of the table. I really don't know why he didn't question the amount. It won't happen again, that's for sure.

Wow. That is $2 for each slice of bread. each slice of sausage, and $2 for your drink. I can go to the store and buy a whole roll of sausage, a whole loaf of bread. and a 2 liter drink for $10. Heck and probably even have a little change left over! Now you know there was a reason for no prices on the menu. If I am out to eat I always ask the prices before I order if the menu doesn't show a price.

Yeah, I know. I will be checking and double checking the menu, and asking questions if there are no prices listed, from now on.

I would have been livid too. I think if I was not there when my husband paid the bill, when I returned from the restroom, I would have asked him how much it cost before leaving the truck stop. Knowing me, I would have asked the price of each item before ordering too, especially if there were no prices on the menu. Really, no prices on menus should not be allowed, because these places can really get travelers, who stop for a quick meal. I wouldn't have gone back, considering the cost of gas though. The difference between men and women, the woman would have questioned the bill before paying if it were that much, my husband would have paid it and not ask for an itemization, but I would have questioned the bill if it were me, but unfortunately, you were not around when the bill was paid.

Yes, and THAT won't be happening again! I will make a habit of looking at the bill before handing Hubby the money, especially when we are out on the road.

it sure is outrageous but thats what they do at truck stops,it may be a plan devised by them to make profit.if one knows of this fact, the elderly will avoid such stops but to reason with kids is next to impossible!!

I wouldn't go back cuz if you go back it waste your time and gas... but did you have receipt? I always take receipt... and whenever I get home, I will call them right the way... or fax them to see what else they charge me. I hate when people doing the cheat thing. Sometimes, it is expensive cuz it is far from the town. but just $20 for both of you, I agree with your hubby not going back for some other change. but will go back once I drive pass by that again

I guess it was just the fact that it was less food than any other meal we had had, and it was the most expensive one that got me.

Hi bo', dependng whom Iwas with then I would go back..that is a terrible amount of money to have to spend on nearly nothing, they must do it regulary to people whom they don't know and also realise don't look at their change..which is something I always do then I know wether it is the right amount or not..hugs LoLo

I really didn't think too much of it when I ordered, but there were no prices on the side items, which is what I ordered. So, in that respect, it was my own fault. AND, I didn't look at the tab when she brought it. Hubby had it and I just handed him the money, and went to stretch my legs. You can bet I will be checking things like that from now on. Especially if we are passing through that area again!

That's pretty darn obscene. But I wouldn't have turned the car around and gone 30 miles to complain. The time would be more important to me than the money. But I wouldn't go back either!

Because you already drove away so far, if you came back you will pay the extra fuel cost plus your valuable time. There must be something wrong in your bill. Kindly I will think maybe it's the system made a mistake. It's a lesson for you. Next time do remember to check the bill, also let your hubby doing the same.

Let's hope they made a mistake. Although never underestimate the ability of people to inflate prices when they have the chance. Maybe they don't have repeat business but that is ok for them.

i really hate what people try to get away with - they dont deserve any customers or even the store =/
