What an amazing book, and what an eye opener!! The memoirs of Frank McCourt are absolutely amazing. It's absolutely unbelieveable what he experienced during his childhood in Ireland. There are two more books after; 'Tis, and Teacher Man.

I read all 3 of his books and I love it. I bought Angela's ashes from a book sale for P50.00 ( around 1 US dollar ), and I think that is the best buy I ever had. I read it without any expectation and I love love love it. After that I searched for his second book 'tis and when the teacherman was released, I bought it immediately. I think that Angela's ashes is still the best among the 3, and teacherman is the next ( I wanted to be a teacher for the longest time, and his book made me want it even more! )..

The funny thing on this book is that I started reading it a few years back when it first came out, but didn't finish it; Started and finished reading Tis his sequel to Angela's Ashes, and it is only about a month or so ago that I took the time to sit down and read Angela's Ashes in its entirety. And if there was something that taught me something it was this. I am African American and although I have seen some of this world, I also felt we had the corner on poverty, but after reading this book, and more recently Rick Bragg's stories about his and his family life, I know that poverty is a worldwide problem. If I was real close to that father, I'd give him one good beat down;

I have read it some time ago. It is remarkable that the he survived. It makes one thankful for what we have. Those poor children to have o go through what they did. But at the same time his mother did all she could for her children with what she had to work with. I haven't read the last two but should get them and read hem. Frank McCourt is a very good writer.
