Attending marriage parties is one of my exciting work. From friends, families and relatives as well as co-workers, I always feel very glad to receive invitations of their marriage celebrations. I may say, in a whole year I have to attend about fifteen marriage parties traveling far and near. The farthest distance I have travelled for a marriage party is about 700kms from my residence, before two years from now!! Have you such experience of travelling a distance for attending a marriage party? Please share your real experiences!

I used to not mind to go to them too when I was younger. I am pretty much a homebody now though. I send a gift and stay home. I have never travelled a distance to one though either.

Hello,Mitraa! These days I am keeping myself away from marriage parties because of my old age. However I send some gifts for the couple as a token of my blessings. However I prefer to attend the party in person and meet the friends and relations. There is special charm in it.thanx.

Oh definately! We traveled more than 1,000 miles from our town to see my niece get married. It was interesting traveling by car because we couldn't afford to fly. The kids were little, so we chose to leave late in the afternoon and drive all night thinking they would sleep. Yea, right. That was the biggest joke. They were so excited about getting to see their family members that there was no sleeping until they were so exhausted they couldn't hold their eyes open anymore!

Nope!! I don;t want to travel that far to attend a wedding of a co-worker unless he/she will spend for my fare. hahahaha... well it is is my immediate relative's wedding like my brother or my sister or close cousins, I will travel even with my own expense but for other people? I think, I will not travel that far. If they live closer I might... Lol.. Instead of spending for my fare in that distance, I will give it to them as a gift.

I have travelled a thousand kilometeres to attend a marriage ceremony. I won't say that I use to attend 10-15 parties every year. I would say that I use to attend 5-6 parties each year. I won't say that I love them but the most interesting part is when I get to eat meals in those parties, as I don't like drinking.

Hello my friend Mitraa Ji, It is really very much interesting topic and as we attend them, our mind gets break from routine work and gets freshed. We meet many different relations/friends and even unknown, who later on become life partners. During our service career, we attended many such marriage parties between Delhi and Bangalore, travelling for more than 48 hrs in train in those days. It used to take few more days to become normal. Memories of such parties always used to haunt. It is worth remembering. i too like those parties to be attended. May God bless You and have a great time.

Oh Mitraa, you are so lucky to have so many invitations. I seldom have any invitations for marriage but I love going to marriage food. They are the only time I get an opportunity to wear my gorgeous sarees and dress up really good. In our daily lives, we seldom get any opportunity to wear heavy traditional Indian sarees yet we all have quite a few of them tucked away in our cupboards. I love meeting the people and family and generally gossiping about everything and then the good food is there too!

I do enjoy attending weddings/wedding receptions although I prefer not to attend the actual wedding ceremony itself because I get very emotional and start crying LOL! The furthest I have travelled for a wedding is from London, UK to Calcutta, India - I think that beats your 700km hehe! It was my cousin's wedding and I was planning to visit India anyway in the December but from what I understand my cousin actually planned the wedding date knowing I would be coming in December which was very sweet of him as I helped fix his marriage up in the first place... 15 marriages a year? Wow, that's a lot! I'm lucky if I go to 3 or 4 a year! Last year my only brother got married so it was a very special one for me to attend and I attended 3 other weddings. This year, I've only 1 to attend in July as far as I know at this time...

Hi there!! I have some really different reasons that makes me to go to a wedding anniversary.First thing is the food and different people will be coming to a wedding.Especially girls they try to look at their best in any function, not just in marriages.I think wedding anniversary in the only occasion where our Indian women look beautiful. With all those gold and great saree's.I also love the food in the a wedding and after that the parties and finally sending the girl with the boy...That's the saddest thing for the girls parents...I never traveled such long distances like you,for attending a marriage.

I really like attending weddings too, especially when it is someones wedding that I am close to, as it is a privilege to be present during this special day. The furthest I have ever travelled to be at someones wedding was when I flew abroad to be present at a friends wedding that I studied with. She was a great friend and lived around 3-4 hours flying distance from me. I had a great time and it was well worth travelling the distance for.

I must say I have not attend a wedding in a long time. I have heard of relitives and frineds and co-workers getting married but I have yet to attend a weding. I think the last time I can rembember was when I will still in high school when I went to my couois weding, that was over 20 years ago. There was maybe one more weding I attend sicen then. I sometimes do not have to time to attend a funtion like that becas of work or for other reasons.

Fifteen in one year???? That is amazing! I haven't attended a wedding in years. The longest distance I have traveled was from New Orleans to Houston. It is about a 5 hour drive, not sure of the mileage.

Hi!Mitraa I too love to attend marriage parties.I love travelling too ,so even if its a long distance I don't mind at all.Its exciting to go to places.Though long distance travel is cumbersome I still put up with it as I like it alot.Recently my friend's son got married in Coorg and that is very far from where I live.Still I made sure I went and it was good fun.I like the thought of getting dressed and going and having fun.You get to meet up with lots of people whom you have lost contact with.My husband is very reluctant as he can't get leave now I somehow convince him that unless we take the effort to go to other people's wedding only then they will come for us.
