Update on the roomie

Well, I asked for prayers, and good thoughts and stuff for her after a strange CAT scan. Last week she went to the nerve doc and got some - well, good is the proper word for it, but interesting is also an apt word. The strange thing on the scan doesn't seem to be anything life threatening, but it could've been a birth injury. He thinks it might have caused part of her problems with her vision - not that she wouldn't still be blind, but that the randomness of her eye movements - that are often caused by strokes and she's had since birth might be the result of a birth injury - remember, she's nearly 50 and the docs used those big forceps on difficult births (and honestly since she was born in a military hospital the care wasn't the best.) So, it doesn't seem to be in any way going to be dangerous, but it is interesting to find out that the docs might've made things worse. We won't tell her mom, she's got enough to worry about as it is. so, just to update for all my friends that the prayers and good thoughts worked!!!

Actually, the military hospitals I have been to, and around, are much better than average. I never had a child there, though. I did have a forceps delivery here, and the doctor was excellent. Is it possible roomie had strokes at birth, just before or after? I have a client that had this happen, she has lots of vision issues.I agree that it does no good to tell a mom about something that she cannot help, so it is kind of you to not tell her mom.

well, I'm talking about military hospitals in the 50's and 60's, and for kids not adults and kids' illnesses rather than adult injuries. Like I said, tho, the doc thought it might be a birth injury. 90% of her vision problems are birth defects not injury related.

Hi Elic, It is always a worry when a friend is ill and especially something like this. I think it is right in not worrying her mother with it all. Thoughts and prayers still with your friend. huggles. Ellie :D

Her mom doesn't deal with things quite as well as she did before her own stroke - tho it could've killed her, turned out to be pretty minor

Oh, that IS good news, my friend. I guess the forceps could have caused a head injury which in turn would trigger off the strokes. Wow... it's frieghtening really when you think about it, and it certainly provokes some thought about my grandson, whom we lost at the age of seven. Brightest Blessings, and thank you for letting us know that the energies and prayers worked. They often do but it's nice to hear a good story in the midst of some of the sadder ones.

I try to post good news when I get it. Keep up the good thoughts/prayers because she goes to the gastric bypass surgeon on Monday

That is very good news. I hope that the doctors will continue to follow her in case there are any changes which might create a problem. That way if a problem occurs the doctors can handle it more easily. Wishing her the best of luck.

thanks, the roomie is also happier that the doc didn't seem worried I had a friend who basically received such bad care from the military hospitals that she lost the hearing in one ear

I am so happy that it is not more serious than that, I hope they can do something for her though, anything to make it better.

I'm so happy that everything came back ok. I hate that it seems that her problems might have been avoided had doctors been a bit more cautios, but at least she now has an explaination. Sometimes that helps more than anything, even if you don't like the answer, just knowing the answer gives you a piece of mind.

That is so true, and some docs used to think that babies would survive anything they did to them - well, obviously that's not true.

Sorry I'm late at getting to this but glad to hear that things aren't too dire with your roomie..crap, my great-grandmother would be rolling in her grave----being a nurse she saw what idiots docs were and I always remember my mother/grandmother saying to me what my great grandmother thought--that using forceps at a baby's delivery was the worse thing that could be done---since the baby's skull still isn't developed severe medical problems were caused by using them-----yikes, do they STILL use them do you know???
