Do you ever name your pets after famous people or people you admire?

I have done this. My daddy gave me a dog one time that I named "Elvis", after Elvis Presley. I don't remember what kind he was exactly but he was a mixed breed. He was a solid white dog with a black eye and one big, black spot near his tail. I was probably about five or six years old, maybe younger, at the time. I loved this dog, though, and as you can guess, I really loved Elvis too, LOL . However, this dog was sick a lot. We had him put to sleep because he had mange. This was back in the 50s and there must not have been anything you could do for mange back then. At least, we didn't know anything about it at the time. I was told that he also acted mad but he never acted mad toward me. He must have acted mad toward other people. I played with this dog nevertheless. I've also had other animals that I named after people I admired. I was in the 4H club as a child and I raised calves. I had a calf one time that I named after Johnny Burnette. In case you don't know who he was, he was a singer back in the early 60s. He wasn't very well known but I plan to do a discussion on him one of these days. I really had a crush on him, though, as young as I was at the time. As some of you already know, I have a horse now that I have named "Cyrus", after Billy Ray Cyrus. I guess I'm silly, aren't I? How about you? Have you ever had any pets you named after people you admired?

I'm glad you clarified that a little better. I'm sure you have heard of Lou Diamond Phillips, haven't you? He is an actor from the Phillipines. His first starring role was in "La Bamba" back in the late 1980s. He played the part of "Ritchie Valens", a singer back in the '50s who was killed in a plane crash with Buddy Holly. It was a good movie and he's a good actor. Kathy.

No. My dog was named as Nobby after my daddy watched a film and thought the actor in the film was so funny and we all laughed when we heard that name. So we named it.

I did. We had a dog who lived with us from 3 months until his 20s and I named her Jessie after Jessica Walters. Simularity? They both had dark curly hair. I also had a dog before whom I called Peanuts after the cartoon.

I sure hope Brooke or Jessica heard about it. I do not think they would like a dog named after them. But I do suppose if Jessica had a pet dog, they would say they are looking almost alike.

This is so cute! I have a neighbor who was keeping a dog for somebody one time that they named "Brooke". I assumed they named her after Brooke Shields. My neighbor said they probably did. Thank you for responding and have a great day/night. Kathy.

I do do that but usually I go with whatever comes to my head. Like our white male cat is George. He just acts like a George. Then the female tri-colored cat is Chumley who was the Doctor in Harvey. Then the old mother cat is Zooey. Not sure where that one came from. Just liked the name and it fit her. The grey male is Wolfin. He looks like a grey wolf. Midnight is the male cat that lives outside mostly. Our newest addition is Sabbath2 cause my daughter used to have a cat she named that years ago and this one reminded her of it. No, you are silly. The Blue Heeler we had was named Stryder after a character in a Tolkein series. So there were afew named after favorite characters of some type.

You're saying that you do name some of your animals after famous people but you're saying I'm silly for doing the same. I don't understand. Can you please explain? Sometimes I name my animals whatever comes to my head. It depends on the situation, I guess. Kathy.

Billy Ray and his family were living in Thompson Station, Tennessee the year that I went to the fan club picnic. That's about an hour south of Nashville. I live in Alabama and it's about 200 miles from here to Nashville, which means that it's about a three or four hour drive. That's how I got a chance to go. Fanfair was going on in Nashville at the same time and several of his fans were there who had been to fanfair. Kathy.

It sounds like your daughter is a big fan of Miley Cyrus's, like I'm a big fan of her daddy's, Billy Ray. I used to be in Billy Ray's fan club and I went to the fan club picnic in 2000. I got to talk to Billy Ray a little bit. I also got to meet Miley and her half brother, Trace. This was way before she got so famous, of course. She was just seven years old at the time. I asked her how old she was. That's how I know. She would have been eight in November of that year. Kathy.

I have a pet dog before I named it after the famous senator "Grongo Honasan". My Mom was fond of giving our pets the name of some famous persons like Marilyn (Marilyn Monroe), Gloria (Gloria Macapagal Arroyo), and a lot more. She was giving all of those names and give a sly smile. It was fun and every time we call our dogs we always laugh because of it.

I also loved Elvis...he was a great singer. I've never had a "famous" pet but Morgana (our cat) is named after someone in the movies. In the first Elvira movie, Elvira inherits a house...as she's looking at the run-down house she sees a picture of a woman hanging on the wall...she asks who it is and the executor tells her it's her late Great Aunt Morgana Talbot...I loved the name as soon as I heard it. A short time later we got Morgana and the name just fit her. !!Happy Halloween!! ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

hi kathy, i have a female German Shepherd and there was lot of discussion on what name to give her between me , my cousin's son and my best friend and it took us for ever to name her as we didnt agree on anything for 4 days and then Goofy was suggested by my cousin's son and it was like magic and we all agreed in a moment. We have lots and lots of weird names in India for dogs. A female Dalmatian is called Pepsi and nearly every dog whose name you dont know you try Tomy, moti or tiger being three most common but i know Pamela ( on Anderson), Rick ( Australia's cricket captain), Jesus, mike ( Jagger), so it is very common to name them on stars. I know lots of dogs on Indian stars too but you wont recognize them so i didnt tell here.

I bet your German Shepard was beautiful! We used to raise German Shepards. We had one that was solid white and his name was "Snow". We also had a solid black one and his name was "Big Mack" but we called him "Blackie". My nephew used to call him "Mack McNally" after the singer. I thought he was a pretty dog. He was scary looking to some people. My brother and his family had a female German Shepard named "Misty". They lived next door to us at the time but Misty stayed over here most of the time. Just about everybody at their house stayed gone all the time so that's the reason why. She was misty colored. That's why they named her that. Also, my nephew said that his mother had that record by Johnny Mathis called "Misty". They must have named her after the song as well. Kathy.

Well when we got our family dog about 10 years ago, my sister named her Mickey, cause she liked Mickey Mouse. As for my dog, I named him Jonah. I always liked that name and I said if I God ever blessed me with children I was going to name my first son Jonah, God blessed me with a dog first, so that is why I named him Jonah.

I sometimes like to think my pets are my children, so that's very fitting. :) They are a big part of our lives, and that's very sweet you named your dog that.

I have a dog named Pablo because I love Pablo Picasso, I am an artist and I do abstract art so I find this name very interesting, I gave him this name because firstly I love the artist and secondly because I have been trying to paint like him in a canvas and the canvas was drenched in the rain so I named my dog after the bad experience.;-)

Hi Cyrus, We have three pets or rather 4 pets actually. We have 3 dogs and 1 turtle. The three dogs was named to a well-known celebrity or well-known person too. Our two golden retriever was named Thalia and Serge - they were name after the popular Mexican TV Series Marimar. The leading lady in the series is Thalia (Mexican Actress) and Serge is his leading man name in the series. Actually the name of the leading man in the series is Sergio, but we kinda change it to Serge. Our American Bulldog was named Douglas - name after the well-known person Douglas Mc Arthur. Our pet turtle is a pig nose turtle that can live up to 70% of water. The turtle name is Pong. It was named after the local TV Series here in our country called BATIBOT, it was a show for kids, and one character in the show is dressed like a big turtle and he is called Pong Pagong. Pong is the name and Pagong is the other called or the Tagalog for turtle. We are happy for their names and I think they like it too. ;o)

My dad was a huge fan of the show Farscape, and when we got this persian cat (she was purebred: a silver coated), it reminded him of the character Chiana, so we named her after her. The little gray girl he called her. :) And later, after my dad passed away, I found this gorgeous pure black cat at the shelter, and I named her after Aeryn, who always wore black, from the same show. I wouldn't say they were named after famous people, but after famous characters, I suppose. But the names fit them too. Chiana (who's character is rambunctious and nutty) is just that, and then some. Same with Aeryn, who is very bossy in the house. I love them both dearly.
