Do you prefer to cook with butter or oil? Or both perhaps? When I looked in my pantry, I realized how many different types of oils were on the shelves. I use a mixture of Olive Oil and Butter for shallow frying steak and fish and I use Peanut Oil for deep frying chips or battered items. I also use Peanut Oil for roasting. When I cook curry I use Ghee. I often use Sesame Oil in Stirfry and when I make cakes or pastry I always use pure butter. The exception here is muffins for which for I use a vegetable oil.

When I was a child my mother used quite a lot of lard and dripping. These are no longer popular although I notice they are sill available in the supermarkets.

It really depends on what I am cooking. I like olive oil and butter mostly. I will use vegetable oil when baking though

I like both! I love butter and smart balance has a great butter taste with lots of benefits. I love olive oil and use it quite a bit. I should try peanut oil more, roasting sounds yummy!
