Hi friends, do you all believe that saving is essential and that money saved is money earned. I have realised that when I don't go out, I am saving a lot of money LOL and making a list also makes me spend less as I stick to what is essential and there on my list ( most of the time at least) & don't spend on unnecessary items. I think we need to save at least a part of our earnings regularly and as the saying goes money saved is money earned. Do you all make special effort to save money if so how ?

Hi Kiran ! Definitely money saved is money earned.i am a person whowould NEVER ever buy unnecessary things[things means sarees and books not included .I think a lot before buying anything else and would buy only after ascertaining with my inner self that I would definitely use it.I never buy curios , trinkets, showpieces nothing.I just have a tremendous weakness for sarees and there it is a case of 'no holds barred'.And whatever I buy I would buy with my own money, when my savings is decent.

I wish to get over this weakness because here place is at a premium Kiran;my cuboards are overflowing and I loll around in a nightie half the time.So I would suddenly become noble anddecide I won't buy sarees for an extended period; but when I g o out to buy a saree for some special occssion then that season[saree buying season]hits me hard and bang I go.

Hi kala, I too go through these various phases . There was a time when I was working and I used to wear sarees everyday . Those days I felt that I dint have enough sarees and I used to go on buying. then i had to give up working when i moved to Bangalore and now because of the life style here I am hardly wearing sarees daily, though I feel like wearing them...

kala I laughed a good deal when I read your response esp the part within the brackets, because it is the same case with me. I feel that is necessary spending LOL.I simply cant resist a good saree or a book. My children tell me that I can start a shop with all the sarees that I have collected , but I still go on adding. I keep making promises that I would never buy another saree for until next year blah blah, and I am already buying one within a week LOL...

Saving money is very important because keeping in mind the unforeseen future we need to have financial stability and security. I have felt that though earning money is not tough but saving is not an easy task.Whenever we make plans to save a fixed amount of earned money, every time something unexpected expenditure makes our planning a futile exercise. We both earn and we try to save as much as we can so as to put our money into fixed deposits which will be beneficial for years to come.So no money earned is no money saved.

Hi bamrahkirti, What you say is absolutely right. It is easier to earn than save. I too have realised that. I have a maid who saves more than I do LOL, she is so wise that when she came to work with me 3 years ago she asked me to help her get a savings account in post office and asked me to deposit half her salary there. It is a substantial sum now which has been put into afixed deposit, only thing is I have to lie to her drunkard husband about her pay. He comes and takes the rest from her on the day I pay her...But amidst all those adverse conditions she has been wise and intelligent enough to safe guard her hard earned money..

They say every penny saved is every penny earned. Generally people refer to their savings as hard earned money. If no savings, one cannot say that he earned. Even buying assets from the earnings is a saving.

Hi. I don't believe it that much. Money for me is for spending only, but yes, I don't let if flow like water. I do keep myself in check whenever and wherever I can. TO be spending whenever I wish to is my dream and a mentality of saving is a huge roadblock for that to happen.

Hi, I agree that money is for spending. But if something were to happen and you find that you have no money to spend then what happens? It is precisely for that purpose that we need to save, so that we are able to continue living in the same style as before....

Hello there kiran. It is indeed true and right to save money. As the saying goes, we need to save money for the rainy day. Others might ask, "How am I going to save money when I only earn enough for survival every day?" The answer to the question is just simple Mathematics. Do not spend much more that what you earn every day. Blessings!

Hi France, thanks a lot for your response. You are absolutely right in saying that we need to save for a rainy day, for the future and for our security. I think if one makes the effort and practise saving from an early age it is not difficult to get into the habit of saving..

Kiran! I fully agree with you that money saved is money earned. If I do not spend Rs.100/- it means, I am saving Rs.200/-, because had I spent Rs.100/- on purchasing something, I would require another Rs.100/- to compensate it. I also believe that saving our earnings is very essential and our savings help us in our rainy days. One never know which unforseen problem is going to crop up and when. It is good that you do not spend on unncessary items and instead avoid going to the market. I also try to avoid those items/things, without which I can manage.

Please do not try too hard or go for saving too much, we never know what is going to happen tomorrow, so we must not save at the cost of not enjoying our 'today'. Jokes apart, our savings/investments makes us feel secure and sound, so we must do it, even if we are required to curtail few of our desires.

Hi deepak, I agree with your views. I sometimes feel that had I been a little more careful before I could have saved a lot more. But at least now I am being careful and avoid any kind of unnecessary expenditure. As you have rightly said one can never be sure about the future and we need to save for a rainy day..

Well said deepak , I too believe that the present is far more important than an obscure far off future. It is foolish to be unhappy and deprive things for yourself and your loved ones with hopes for an unsure future. Saving becomes meaningful only when happiness and security is linked to it..
