i dont have car, but i got this from the mail and i would like to share it with everybody. when someone shares something of a value it is good to share it: Please open the windows after you enter your car and do not turn ON the air-conditioning immediately. According to a research done, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emits Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen- take note of the heated plastic smell in your car). In addition to causing cancer, it poisons your bones, causes anemia, and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer may also cause miscarriage. It is recommended that you open the windows and door to give time for the interior to air out before you enter. Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver, and is very difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff i hope this helps and i hope you also share it with people you care for.

Wow..thanks for the info! I hardly ever use my air conditioner but I'll remember this if I do. Wonder if it's the same for your heater? I do use that in the winter.

I'm no expert, but I think you should be fine. One, this situation is caused by the car's temperature in the summer, in the winter the car would be cold. Second, a car's heating system is a fan blown over heated coils, and doesn't use benzene.

I did not know this about car A/C's! Thank you for the tip! I will share this with my family, although its not necessary for me to do so right away. With the cost of gas being so high, my mom and grandma try their best to NEVER turn on the air conditioning lol. They would rather just roll with the windows down. If the a/c does need to be turned on, its usually after rolling for a few minutes to see what the air feels like. Even if its known that they will turn on the a/c, the car seems to cool off faster if you allow the fresh air to circulate a bit first, then turn on the a/c. But again, this is info that I didn't have before, so thank you!

This is a pretty strange email. It's a lot like the many "warnings" we get online for different reasons. There's even one regarding putting plastic wares into the microwave although it doesn't consider the fact that new technologies already provide safe, microwavable containers. As for Benzene causing Cancer - why would it be restricted to cars? Also, what conditions would apply before Benzene is emitted? I have since been skeptic about such emails because if we take every little bit of them seriously, we'll end up cooped up in our plastic covered rooms with our plastic covered furniture :P Of course there are certain things that have been proven to be health risks - such as drinking sodas, etc. Eating fatty foods and junk foods. Smoking will most likely ruin everything about your life, etc. :P Thanks for the response on my discussion :)

hope i can answer your question, but all of this warning depends on us if we will take precautions or if we will ignore it and live our life the way we wanted it to be. this emails like this as you call warning does help us to be aware. prevention is better than cure. thanks a lot for the response

Thanks for sharing this important warning se7enthbird. Indeed I am one of those people who immediately turn on the air-con after I enter the car. In my place the heat is so strong and sometimes I feel my head is burning. I keep this warning in mind and will tell this to my friend. Next time I will open my window as I enter the car and then turn on the air-con. Wait for the heat settle before I close the window.

Wow that is really scary. I will open the windows from now on before I turn on the air. I usually don't turn it on right away anyways unless it is really, really hot and humid. I usually wait to see if it will be comfortable in the car without turning it on, then if it is not comfortable I will turn it on. But on really hot humid days I am guilty of turning it on and turning it on full speed, until I am comfortable and then turn it down.
