Friends, Most of us have some dream or the other, about how our life should be and what we want to achieve for ourselves, for our children and family etc; We dream of having a lot of money, jewellery, a grand house, travel to exotic places etc; etc;But are we being realistic about our dreams. I feel that if we dream within our limits, there is a chance that we can work towards it and fulfill it. Or do you feel that it is better to dream big , because it motivates you to achieve more since you have set your goals high... Should we stop dreaming at all and concentrate on living our life the way it is presented to us? but doesn't that make life drab? I have always known my limitations and curbed my impulse to dream big lest I feel disappointed ... What are your views about dreaming and its effects friends?

Its better to aim high since if ever you do fail, you'd just fall to some situation that isn't as bad as not actually making any effort in trying to achieve such dreams in the first place. Perseverance is just one among many things that a person should have to claim any dream that they want, for themselves and for others who are involved with it. Of course, you dream big but, it should be well planned and not simply going straight to the goal. We should of course have our bearings with reality so that we would be versatilve and achieve things in due time. (^_^")

Hi rayyz, Thats exactly what my son says. according to him one should dream BIG...Try climbing the Himalayas, you might at least end up on a foot hill. I agree that we have to set goals that need some perseverance and hard work, otherwise it does not give you any happiness or satisfaction..All the best

Only those who know hard work truly recognizes how rewarding it is to achieve goals. Its better to earn something from your own efforts compared to getting something easily, perhaps in the expense of others, which isn't really as fullfilling as getting something that you really want and deserve it.

Setting a goal and dreaming and scheming towards it is the right thing to elevate the standard of ourselves in life.Dreams are just goals.Goals are the needs. We all have our needs and responsibilities. We sure have to dream to attain and fulfill them to do justice to our responsibilities. It is a single step everyday that will take us to the dream up there.

It is wonderful to have a dream. It can also be wonderful to have a goal.To transform a dream into a reachable goal you must clarify it, provide the details, make it so clear that you can see it, feel it, know what you will feel like when you get there. This works for you in many ways.

Excellent ! You have said exactly what I thought.I think if one has clarity of thought and sets about finding ways to realise one's dreams nothing is impossible. I think we do know when to distinguish between realistic dreams and pure fantasies. Sometimes just by coincidence our fantasies too might come true LOL...

Hi balasri, Well said ! It is very essential to dream and work towards attaining it.Sometimes just dreaming about it ! I have known people who are so realistic , going through life just the way it offers itself , with no expectations - HUh ! I don't think I would live that way, life would be too drab and dull...

I have many smaller, hopefully attainable dreams, but sometimes when I can't fall asleep at night or if I am stuck in a boring meeting or something I just let my imagination soar and think of all manner of lovely possibilities.

Hi Kiran! Dreaming about big things is a good and positive way to achieve success. Our dreams and aspirations work as motivators for us and prompt us to do better in our life. I try to be practical and realistic and try not to dream about those things, which are beyond me. I know my limitation (like you) and I know that I cannot raise the bar after a level, come what may. I make myself understand that it is better to know the ground realities and then go for fulfilling our desires.

Hi Kiran, I agree with you that without dreams and imagination our life may become dull and drab and boring. We should continue to fantasize and keep dreaming about some or other things. So in nutshell, we think alike

Hi deepak, very well said, thats exactly what was on my mind. i do dream of impossible things knowing fully well that I may never be able to realise it. I also work at those which I feel can be achieved by working and steering things in that direction. just imagine how dull life would be without dreams and imagination...

Yes, I love this post - I came to conclusion that we are much alike in the way we think. I am always plan my reality to be a product of my dreams. Dreams are better than reality anyway and I intend to fight for them. Dreams have no limit. I should know, I live in India and dreams to complete my PhD thesis. No one can stop me. There are several barriers I came across till. Among them, the financial problem is most acute. Now I am working in night shift in a private farm to overcome my problem. But I will complete my degree.....the last degree of the University!!!. If I not dreamed what happened........the dream of my childhood will not sucessful. I have same opinion to you.

I don't really remember the dreams most of the time.I think,I dream both realistic and unrealistic stuffs. As a kid,I do dream of dragon, fairies or demon because these dreams are influenced from the stories that I heard from my grand mother. But sometimes I remember it partially or sometimes nothing of it.If it is a nightmare, then I find myself in a bad mood after waking up. Sometimes I also don't find exact reason behind the bad mood. I think, dreams are really interesting thing that happen to us and it is also a good medium to solve certain problems which we cannot solve when we are awake. It is quiet certain that we dream those dreams that are related to our day to day life.Parts of these dreams we remember and the rest we do forget.

Hi tuyakiki, thanks a lot for your response Dreams really make our lives interesting. As you say sometimes as we dream and fantasize we come up with some solutions fr our unsolved problems because the sub concious takes over and brings up some hidden memory to the fore front..

many technologies that we use today were considered impossible a century ago. if it were not for those who pursued those dreams which were considered impossible at that period and made it a reality, we will be still dreaming. if one wants to achieve anything, just dreaming wont do. one has to act. act decisively and pursue it passionately. nothing is given on a platter, we have to work for everything. but while acting on your dream, there is a possibility of not getting the desired results. that should not be a reason for losing sight of the task undertaken. learn from mistakes. have patience. have faith in oneself. if one has a little faith in One-self, that is worth more than having a thousand times more faith in god. Dhirubhai Ambani has said something like this "No one can stop me from dreaming. it costs nothing and comes free." He achieved everything he dreamed of. So Dream. Awaken the spirit that is lying asleep in you. Kick it to act for you. You will achieve all that you dream.

i'm dreaming that after college i'll have a great future, i dream that i could study in MIT after college in our country which is very impossible to happen, because the tuition too much expensive. i dream that i could work in microsoft. to be a computer analyst or IT programmer. i dream to have a big house. to have a luxury cars.many more. well, thre's nothing wrong in dreaming or hoping with your dreams. but do not hope too much for you not to get hurt, or for you not to hope too much. i do hope that all of my dreams will happen, but i know i need to accept the truth that not all of our dreams will happened although it is a realistic or impossible to happen. XD

Hi alleroid, Not only is there nothing wrong in dreaming big but it is necessary to keep our ambition and motivations alive. One must dream of the future and if given a chance work towards it. There is nothing better than realising your dreams. I had a great desire of visiting Sree lanka, and I really worked hard by scrimping and saving and after 2 years was able to visit that amazingly beautiful place. Now I have another sets of dreams which hopefully I will be able to fulfill, am working towards it...All the best to you, and may all your dreams come true

I always dream about impossible things, like I can fly or something else, I guess that kind of implicates the fact that I am still a bit childish and unrealistic to some extent. Besides, sometimes my dreams reflect the status of my mind. For instance, I dream from time to time that I lose my way in a strange place and can't find my way back, I feel so scared and abandoned. This kind of dream comes whenever I am under pressure or feel confused. In my case, dreams do reflect some part of our inside world.

Hi Hedwig, I think it is better to retain a little bit of child like feeling and wonder within oneself , otherwise life looses its interest.Do you know our dreams mirror our subconcious , I too get similar dreams of being lost, exactly like yours. I think it is a basic insecurity and a feeling of being unsure about ones future that brings on such dreams

hi there, well as far as for me i have both kind of dreams. both realistic dreams like passing my exams or getting disnticntion for them. Well somtimes i have impossible dreams like wonder i have jet plane to fly to vegas and a ten million dollar check on in letter box. well i think both kind of dreams are important it makes us as humans complete. I mean what would life be if we dont move out of reality abit? well it would bre really boring. Well and sometimes we also need to have realistic dreams that we know we can achieve it if we try. Well in my opinion it is good to dream both kind of dreams, the real ones and the impossible ones. Happy mylotting and have a nice day ahead. best regards, alvingb

I dream of winning the lotto, I don't know if that is realistic or what. LOL. But seriously, everyone should always dream big, it helps them push themselves to limits and do things they thought they never could do. If people don't dream big, then I think until now, we still won't have electricity, airplanes, telephones, etc. It's from those people that dreams big and unrealistic ( during their time ), that we have what we have right now. As they say, Aim for the stars, because if you fail, you can still go for the moon. Dream big! =)

Hi , Agreed ! No dreams then no development. I am all for dreaming and I also feel the same way as you do. But most people have a way of squashing your dream and your ego when they get a chance - not that it matters...and thats why I thought that dreaming realistic ( a bit boring) dreams might be a better ( for others) and in the meantime go on dreaming big privately..

I dream big all the time and most of it is unrealistic. I have the intelligence of setting up situations in my life that can help me make more money, etc. but instead, I just prefer to dream. I know everyone says you gotta set goals, bla bla bla.. sometimes it's just more fun to fantasize.. like winning the lottery. Now that's a big dream for folks who are seriously bad at math. I have some realistic dreams however, but not enough happiness in my head to make them happen. Cheers to all the unrealistic dreamers out there! Maybe there's a place and time for us somewhere beyond this world.

Hi yaztocal, I understand and agree with you that sometimes it helps to fantasize, it makes life bearable.I too do that a lot, but know fully well that I will never be able make it real. So I try to set more realistic goals which can be fulfilled and though it does not make me euphoric, it does help in its own way.. All the best to you and I am sure there is always a time and place for us here and elsewhere
