Do you have certain foods that are only made and sold locally? What foods would you miss the most if you moved away?
I live in central NY. We have lots of foods that appear to be local foods only. For instance conies. People in other areas of the country have never heard of conies. I don't eat them often, but I'd certainly miss them. Salt potatoes are something else I'd miss terribly. They're a summertime staple for us, and we always have them whenever we do a cookout.
We also have certain brands that I'd miss. For instance Hoffmann's are the only type of hot dog I'll eat, and they're only local. Giannelli is the only type italian sausage I'll eat, and that too is local.
What sorts of foods or brands would you not be able to get if you moved away?

Salt potatoes!
I'm from New York as well, moved down to PA a few years ago.
People here just don't understand what salt potatoes are.
I asked for some, and people just looked at me like I was crazy. I never realized that it was such a New York only thing.
For me, it's not the brands I'd miss, but the area of PA I live in has excellent fresh vegetables, nonstop, so, I think I'd miss all of those a lot.

I know, first time I mentioned salt potatoes on the internet I thought I was on a different planet. What do you mean you don't know what they are???
We get a lot of fresh veggies here too... but as I said, I'm in central NY, this is farming country where I am.

St. Louis style pizza is one thing that I would really miss. The cheese is completely different than the cheese on any other pizza. Toasted Ravioli is something I do not have often , but it is only a local thing. St. Paul sandwiches at Chinese places are only found in St. Louis as well. I love those things.

I've had toasted ravioli at Olive garden. We liked it so much I decided to make some myself. Wasn't bad.

The only thing I can think of is our gas station called Sheetz. You might have them where you are at. They only go as far south as virginia although some are branching down into north carolina now. We lived in Indiana for awhile and I missed Sheetz. There food is good and their cappuccino is excellent. Most the brand food I like is I think a national brand so I wouldn't have to worry about missing it.

Here in Illinois we have beef sandwiches and cheesy beef sandwhich's which are similiar to a french dip, but you don't dip, the sauce is on the sandwhich already. I have not seen them in any other states, and people from other states who come to visit usually go for one of those right away.

I have moved away and certain kinds of foods I used to enjoy so much we cannot get in Greece, I really miss Chinese and Indian food which I can still have if I cook it myself but not all the right ingredients are easily found. Eating out here has much less variety than in the UK, in the area I live the Greeks love Greek food and don't really seem tempted to try foreign foods at all, they say they have the best diet in the world and have no desire to taste a tempting curry.
