The following news story has been breaking over the last hour or so: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/06/01/air.france.brazil/index.html My heart goes out to all the people that will end up affected by this tragedy as it's highly unlikely the plane's anywhere safe or in one piece. It disappeared from radar off the coast of Brazil and didn't land at it's expected time. Air searches have so far revealed nothing..... I'm not sure what to discuss about this situation here, other than to state I feel tremendous sadness that this is unfolding. I fly a LOT, but I never think about things like this. Strangely enough, a group of mylotters and I were discussing plane crashes on here only yesterday! Have you ever been discussing something with people like this and then suddenly found a real instance present itself? What a horrible coincidence.

Hi Mable. Yes, it's one of the worst air disasters in many years and very tragic. I just hope that they somehow manage to locate the wreckage and retrieve the bodies so the families of the victims can have some closure. Given how deep the waters are where the plane went down, I think it will be a very difficult task to retrieve anything, maybe even impossible. we shall have to wait and see because they haven't pinpointed anything major yet. All my blessings go out to everyone affected.

That far out in the Atlantic, it is unlikely that they will ever find anything of the crash. By the time search planes got there that plane had sunk to the bottom, and unless it broke up in pieces there will be no floatsum to find. Shalom~Adoniah

I've just seen an update on CNN where they've been saying that the area they believe the plane went down has ocean depths of 3 - 4 thousand metres. All I know so far is that some wreckage was found at the surface, but it was minimal. A recovery of anything further at that depth is next to impossible you'd think. How terribly sad for the families and friends of the crash victims. At least they could have some closure of sorts if the bodies were recovered.

Given that the plane disappeared off radar some 300 miles out to sea I'd think it to be unlikely that it was shot down; but you just never know these days. All we can hope is that if the passengers all persihed, it happened quickly and without too much suffering. This is so, so sad.

Heya Nova! Your timing is uncanny, because I just heard a similar reference on CNN about 10 minutes ago. They didn't mention wreckage specifics, but showed where it was found in the Atlantic Ocean. As horrible as this is, it's a breakthrough of sorts and will hopefully lead to them finding the plane and recovering the passengers and crew. At least when this happens, family and friends can start to grieve properly. It must be horrendous having to wait for news like this and I feel for them too.

I also feel very sorry for all their loved ones, especially not knowing where or what happened to the plane with their friends and family on.How are they going to be at peace until there is some news.Oh yes one morning we were saying about traffic at a road was going to happen sooner or later, that afternoon to our horror there was a bad crash,we thought that it was too much of a coincidence.

Not knowing exactly what's happened yet would definitely be an extremely difficult position to be in. The families of the passengers and crew must be so stressed at this moment. The traffic accident scenario you just shared sounds really eerie! You can't help but wonder if you somehow tempted fate when things like this happen.
