Don't give out your personal details!

I just looked at a 'discussion' which asked for personal details to make $300 - $600 a week on the internet. It's a scam, of course, but what was really worrying is that someone fairly new from India posted his real name, email and cell phone details in the discussion. PLEASE, newbies, don't do this! Does anyone have any horror stories - their own or someone else's - so we can convince people not to give out personal information just because someone says they can make lots of money?

It happened to me once.An email from BP co.for Accounts officer was sent by a spammer.Relying on that i sent my personal information along with my resume.
Later they said that my name was shortlisted and i had to go to America for the interview.
50% of the expenses were demanded from me which was a substantial amount ,so there i got suspicious and later found that it was scam.

These evil people never cease to amaze me. Thank goodness you found out in time. The problem is, they prey on the desire to make money, and everyone either needs or wants more, so they have plenty of scope. It's bad enough when it's for internet work, but scamming about a real job is criminal. The clue is there, though. A legitimate recruiter would never ask for money towards travelling expenses. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sandra, I agree that sometimes members do get carried away and dole out information freely . I have known one my relatives who gave out her details to someone who promised to mail her some CDS.The Cds never came but she started getting his phone calls asking her to do some help or the other promising her that he would be sending the CD. It went further when he requested her to give shelter to a young man who was coming to her town to take part in a debate. She did do this and she found that the guy who came was not only not taking part in any debate but had some criminal intentions, and finally she had to take help of the other friends and a lawyer who sent the unwanted guest packing with a stern warning...
I don't think that we need to give any personal information to anyone to earn online...

Well, I don't use my real phone number or real address at any websiot. I always give fake ones at first. I did only give my real address to paypal and alertpal because they needs a valid addres for a transactin to be completed.
But not even at myLot, I would prefer giving out my personal details. You never know which place a hacker is sitting to get my details to empty my bank accounts ins't it?

Fortunately, I have never encountered such offers when I was a newbie. Although I'm generally careful about what information I make public and where, I might have just been tempted with that offer :P We really should be very careful with such offers - we must be extra doubtful with people we meet online and of the offers they make. They do not leave themselves accountable to the consequences :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!
