The driver was looking for a parking spot at about 10 a.m. when he hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, crashing through the store's glass doors.

I can understand why people think this way. It is hard for me to determine, however, if this is some sort of profiling. Some elderly people have a problem driving so all elderly people need yearly testing? That seems to be punishing good elderly drivers because some are bad. We do not give weekly breathalyzer tests to all 20 year old male drivers because some are in college and drink too much.

Wow, this is sad. I think that they should be tested more and maybe stricter since they are older. I think that it should start about 65-70 and continue on till they no longer need a license. Because it could help prevent accidents like this in the future.

Yearly after a certain age and after a certain age every 6 months. A lot can change in a years time. There are plenty of younger people out there that have no business driving either though. So it would be hard to decide when to draw the line.

Sounds like my FIL, he's dangerous behind the wheel, but he's not getting his license taken away. It's terrible. They really should do something to stop stuff like this.

Most definitly. I'm not sure when they start testing people here, with 75 or 80 I think. However, some doctors don't really want to say that their patients that they've known through many years can't be fit to drive anymore, so there's been talk about having a special test doctors.

I have been for this testing for quite some time now. However, the older population is against this testing because they feel its age discrimination. But come on, we know as we get older reflexes and other things start to go. And many people aren't willing to admit it even though they know its going on. Its like willingly relinquishing independence. If people were to be subject to mandatory yearly testing after age 70 per se, then those who are no longer able to drive because of age would be taken off the road, making things at least that much safer for everyone.
