Study shows that people who visit networking site increase their productivity by 9% "People who do surf the Internet for fun at work - within a reasonable limit of less than 20% of their total time in the office - are more productive by about 9% than those who don't" Happy Mylotting....even if you are at work.... http://blog.tmcnet.com/jk-on-tech/2009/04/study_social_networking_can_increase_office_productivity.html

Hi Pola! I also believe that those who work on net or keep surfing net for fun and for logging in to social networking sites, get to increase their productivity. Because while working on net, you keep 'awake' and alert and one needs to be on his/her toes to understand the computer jargon or what is happening on the various window(s). I feel that when I work on net, I get more output of my mind and physical activities and I remain alert all the time. What is your own opinion about it. Do you feel that while surfing net, you helped yourself increase your productivity. Hugs!

Back then when I was still employed, there was a time internet connection was cut I really don't know why because I didn't use it other than break or lunch time unless when I was supposed to find some vendors for chemical stuffs that I was in charge to order I don't think I ever got the connection back, but since someone else was in charge to order some things that my dept needed at the time I thought maybe she was going to be in charge for everything else anyway My productivity didn't change, not that I remember at least I didn't know mylot back then though, only some chat sites and BBC forum

Internet connection may be helpful for work related research. When people take short breaks, they refresh their brain and are able to work better....

I guess it depends if you feed yourself health time for social networking. Over doing it like anything too much of anything isn't good. But I'm usually productive when I have a leisure to do while i'm waiting for my next task.

That is good, I don't do it but it would seem that if a person is more happy at work then they tend to do more. I know that mylot relaxes me and at times makes me alot happier then before I sign on. But with the Myspace and other sites I don't really like to much just a way of connecting to family and friends I can't otherwise talk to often because of distance.

Wow, that's very interesting. I have always worked for myself and not been answerable to a boss, and when I am not seeing clients I tend to go on to social sites like myLot, Facebook and I find that I seem to find inspiration for writing my blogs that are connected with my work. I would say that I become more productive in the way of creativity. I tend to be aware sometimes that I may be wasting time, but that could just be my conditioning kicking in there. But maybe I am not wasting time after all. Thank you for the link. - Derek.

Yeah...I think there's a ring of truth to it. People needs a breather all the time. You can socialize and enjoy some fun moments with your online friends. Then back to the job that is waiting for you.

I agree. Especially when, by social networking you mean MyLot, then absolutely you are more productive. Because, it's simple you earn money (though by cents), while you socialize with other people. Great!

hi polachicago, i think that would help increase our productivity in a sense that we can talk to other people all over the world and with that we learned things from them vice versa. i think social networks are a good thing to socialize when your a homy person. it will help bring you out of your shell!

Yes visiting Social Networking site increases the productivity as the person is able to refresh himself by spending some time on the internet...He can chat, talk do something which would make him feel refreshed so it increases the productivity. The only thing the person needs to make sure is not letting go away into addiction with the sites else then the productivity goes down very rapidly.

you got the point, we have to remember to limit our time in social site...

I think that allowing employee to relax after working for a certain period of time does increase productivity. By relax, it can be allowing them to chat with each other for a few minutes every now and then or as you have pointed out, visiting networking sites. The problem with networking site is that there is no reason a person will just visit the site for a few minutes and will turn back to work as planned. You may have just that many friends on facebook that you have so many to reply or view that you won't feel that quite some time has passed until they go back to work.

My work does not allow access to outside internet. It is all blocked. I do not think for me it would increase my productivity. On the other hand, if I alternate computer and housework, I think it does increase my productivity at home. I reward myself for finishing home tasks and it seems I get more done on both places.

Hello polachicago. I believe it because the more we visit those sites, the more new ideas we get from them. I have no doubt about it.
