Why are there so many matrix "opportunities"?

Network Marketing,(aka MLM, matrix), has always been a topic of interest to me. I hear over and over again how its the guy at the top who makes all the money. Is it really possible for EVERYONE who gets in on a matrix to make thousands of dollars every month? What makes people keep joining these matrix opportunities? Why are there so many of them?
Now they are even coming out with a new twist called Pay It Forward. The general concept is still the same and it all sounds so great to have thousands of people giving you money each and every month, but lets face it, sooner or later it has to bottom out, but do that many people really join these things every single day? Has anyone on Mylot ever made a significant amount of money in any matrix plan?
I'm really kind of curious. Please, by all means, let me hear your feedback whether it be negative or positive.

I’ve been building an Internet presence and doing business for two years now, and yes, I’ve seen many of those matrixes. They are, in essence, like 70% of all the business opportunities out there. What they promise is THEORETICALLY possible, but why, in practice, do they disappear after a while and new ones pop up? It’s simple, they are made for the uninitiated, for the newby, who looks at the math and believes to have found a viable opportunity, and they buy in. It does work for the owners of those sites, since whenever the well runs dry they just set up a new one, new looks, new promises, more newbies. I personally stay away from them.

It may sound good and you may be benefited if you join at the first. But if we think of the people at the bottom,is it possible for them to make money? Definitely they are going to loose their investment as there will not be anymore members in their down line.Only the people who conduct this program will get benefit always.Recently we are able to see many such matrix systems and we should avoid them as there are lot of possibilities for us to be the bottom most members who don't have anymore down line.

The Matrix relies on your single ability to convince people to buy into a system. In turn, the people who buy in now have to recruit others to keep the income flowing. Two things happen, one everyone realizes the system is bad and start demanding refunds or or the system is played out and the top execs take their money and run. Next thing you know, the whole system collapses. Soon it is blasted all over the net for being a scam. The true victims are the ones at the bottom, the ones who paid in on blind faith and never realized they were being scammed. Those who recommended the program now have mud smeared all over them. Their reputation and network destroyed. Nothing good every comes out of this except people being a bit smarter and a whole lot poorer.

I will only invest in with small amount of money like 1 dollars or 2 dollars. If all of the matrix are filled up we might get some cold hard cash.
But the only thing that i'm scared the owner will somehow just disappear with the site and all the earnings.
I will try to register with this one website and just see how it goes.
Take care.

MLM are a great opportunity. The people at the top DONT always make the most money. It was like that at one time, but in the US at least things have changed. The pyramid scheme where the person at the top makes all of the money is illegal.
Most MLM's seem to be sales of some sort. So if you want to sell, you can make lots of money doing that.
Having people below you can also increase your profits without you having to do much. But just like getting referrals anywhere else, it is hard to get people to do it actively!
I dont think MLM's are a bad thing. They just arent for everyone.

In my humble opinion, MLM is indeed a very good opportunity to earn money even at the lowest level. However, it requires a lot of commitment in order to succeed in this 'business'. Also, selling skills and strategy planning are also some important factor influencing the success of the 'business'.
