I would like to lose about 25 pounds. I would like some ideas from you for doing this. I know I need to drink a lot of water and to exercise. I am trying to tighten my stomach muscles. I am not fond of crash diets. It took time to put this extra weight on and it will take time for me to work it off. Does any one have any ideas to share with me?? Update: I lost the 25 pounds dancing every weekend. It took about a year to lose the weight but I got it done.

First of all, I would suggest that you visit www.mypyramid.gov You can create a menu on there for free, it is the actual US government food pyramid site. It will tell you everything you need to know, there are countless resources including weight loss tips, foods to eat, healthy eating tips, eating plans, trackers, planners... it's a really great site, and like I said, it's all for free.

Running - that's my weight loss "secret." I don't eat "crap" per se, but I can't count calories (didn't like it too much), and naturally, if I can't have something, I'll just want it. So I didn't tweak my diet too much. I just ate more often and ran harder. I can lose 2 pounds in one week just running hard. Good luck!

Wow! 2 pounds a week is a lot. I am not much of a runner. I do like to talk long walks. I also garden. I have been using the fork to turn the soil by hand rather than using the tiller. I have been pulling the weeds and raking. I am getting a decent tan while doing this garden work.

Wii fit board - Wii fit board, downloaded from the web.
Hello royal,My Mom gave my wife a wii for Christmas. She got the wii fit board and a couple of fitness games. My wife has lost 35 lbs. since then. I even get on the board and play some balancing, strength, and yoga games. But as always, you must eat right and drink lots of fluids. Peace, Totty

Hey! Totty!!! It is so nice to hear from you. I wish I could afford a wii but I can't. It is good to know that the wii program is working well for people. I have seen it on tv. I just can not imagine you balancing and doing yoga. LOL

find a friend and set up a time to walk together. Gradually pick up the distance of your walks. This is great exercise and when walking with a friend...you'll be talking and it won't feel like work. Dance......put on some good news and just dance. Hula hoop....really good for the waist area and even if you aren't good at it...it is exercise. And as with the dancing....put on tunes. Jump rope. oh and hide the scales. It's not about weight so much as being in shape...fit and toned. People get obsessed with weight and being skinny. Don't know how old you are but the older we get the less attractive "skinny" really is. Good luck royal.

Thank you, Sid. My roommate asked me to start walking with her in the evenings. I will start doing this. Yes, I really do like dancing. I will have to dance more often. Hide the scales?? Really? Ok, I will do that. I don't want to be skinny but I do want to lose 25 pounds. That will put me back at a weight that I am comfortable at. Right now, I am not comfortable with this extra weight. Yes, I do need to tone everything up before bikini season.

I have a friend who has suggested I try walking. I have not yet been able to achieve my goal. I am getting lots of exercise horseback riding, gardening and planting stuff. I have spent a lot of time this summer with my shovel and rake. I have also been doing some construction work in the backyard. My arms are toning up nicely.

Walk, drink plenty of water and eat a lot of vegetables. If you can manage to exercise a bit each week that would help to tone specific areas.

I do eat a lot of vegetables. The harvest from the garden is in so the veggies are fresh and home grown. I also ride horses a few times a week, walk and drink a lot of water. I have not lost any weight but I feel better.

How much sugar and fat are you consuming in addition to those vegetables?

Drinking lots of water and getting in some much needed exercise are the key things to do. Also maybe check out the Tae Bo work out tapes or the Hip Hop Abs. They both seem to be good work out videos and the Tae Bo offers an 8-minute work out which is great for busy people. Although it is a short work out you will still feel the benefits of it. Also stay away from sugar as much as possible. They say having too much sugar puts weight on the stomach area. Be sure to eat your fruits and vegetables and a nice portion of protein. Good luck with losing the weight. You may also want to check out obesityhelp. com. It is mostly used by those who have had some form of weight loss surgery but is also for those who have not.
