Has anyone seen Conspiracy Theory?

It was a lovely vehicle for both Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson. A Crime,Mystery,Romance,Thriller from 1997. Mel Gibson played Jerry Fletcher, a man who sees conspiracies everywhere and is a man in love with a woman he observes from afar. She works for the government. Fletcher is an outspoken critic of that government. He has conspiracy theories for everything, from aliens to political assassinations. But soon, one of his theories finds itself to be accurate. But which one? Some dangerous people want him dead and the only person he trusts is that woman he loves but does not know...... It is a great movie. I had seen it listed several times and finally watched it one night and now it is on my favorites list for sure. Have you seen it? What did you think?

Isn't Tommy the greatest? He is always in a good movie. Men In Black comes to mind. Fun one. I think I have seen most of them.

I love that movie, and yes, Mel Gibson's character comes across as a real nutcase that never shuts up talking about his conspiracy theories and Julia Roberts' character keeps telling him to "take a breath" --from word go, Fletcher never shuts up...rambling about dangers of floride in toothpaste, then he's so busy yaking away he turns around and is surprised to realize at one point he's alone talking to himself in the cab..LOL--Interesting idea about the connection between Catcher In A Rye and the assassins with three names, no?

And the horror is that some of those theories were real. I researched some. Scarey. Three names is pretty prevalent too. Interesting, yes indeed.

I saw that film at the pictures, and I liked it so much that I bought it on video later. I've watched it several times since. Julia Roberts and Patrick Stewart are both very good in it (Patrick Stewart is always good at playing bad guys) and Mel Gibson turns out a first class performance as the hero - possibly his best role. Put that together with a great plot and the film's a winner.

Seen It! I watch about 1-2x per week. While greatly exagerated, the movie has a point and sadly the kind of experiments talked about ,were done in the 50 and early 60. I thought his performance in this movie was incredible and absolutely loved the ending. Now lets have a romantic follow up that brings him back into her life. Oh say she's trying to find him, etc. etc.

Over exageration it seems is how to get points across. The performance was great wasn't it?! I think a second one would be great. She trying to find him and starts getting into trouble again somehow.

I've seen it several times now, and I like it. Although it didn't do too well originally; I first saw it at the cinema, and I was the only person there.

I didn't see it at the theater and didn't pay much attention until just afew months ago when I watched it for the first time. I really enjoyed it and wish they would make a second one. Could be a great story.

I saw bits and pieces of the movie, but I haven't seen the entire movie. It does seem like an interesting movie, though. When I have the time to rent a movie, or something, I might keep it in mind, or something like that.

I think it is the endearing character that Mel plays and that it is something we tend to all feel is going on in the country. It is very well done and a sweet love story as well.

CE- I remember that movie! I thought it was really well done, but those types of movies actually get me thinking way too much so I tend to avoid them. I've really enjoyed most of Mel Gibson's movies because he pushes the edge of the character. I can't recall all of the theories that he mentions, but I'd agree that there are definately some shady things in government that should be questioned. Namaste-Anora

I like to be made to think. Afew of the theories he mentioned are real ones. I researched the Ultra Omega one and it is scarey. Kids being made to kill. Ugly stuff. I loved the movie and am glad others saw it for what it was.

My husband and buy toothpaste without it, and wash without it, and we never gave our kids that water they put it in. Our doctor said they didn't need any of it so we don't use it. Now, in reading Dr. Weils book about 8 weeks to optimum health he mentions the amount of fluorides in the drinking water out of our spout, so we invested in a water purifier for the spicket. We need to replace it as they do go out, but it is worth it.
