How smart is your dog?

Our dog plays each night with a red throw toy. Last night we had hard rain and she hates to get wet so she left the toy outside. The first thing she did this morning was retrieve it. And because she did that Hubby let her bring it in the house to her bed. Once she was asleep he put it away. Now comes the smart part, she woke up and found the toy gone, she looked and looked for the toy, until I got the toy and showed it to her, than I put it back. All was ok and she went back to sleep. Who say's dogs can't reason?

My dog was really, really smart. She could do lots of tricks. She could do paw, roll over, sit pretty, give kisses. She could also catch frisbies and jump high fences and would even play ball, you would throw her a rubber ball, and she would bounce it back to you with her head. She was also really good at communicating what she wanted. She could also figure things out, like if one of her toys got stuck under something she could always figure out how to get back, she also played fetch, and would maneuver a forever ball all around the back yard like a socker ball. She was an amazing dog. We had to put her down 2 years ago it was very hard, but she could not walk any longer, very sad.

Hey pat! I think that is so cute! What a smart doggy! She just wanted to make sure her special toy was ok! Dogs are smart! I never doubted it! I can't say that my cats are attached to their toys. They don't seem to care once way or the other. At least not the kittys I have now. My other cats used to have certain toys that they liked and would look for, but Star & Luna don't seem to want to play with toys. I have tried to buy them all sorts of different toys, but just can't get them interested. I think dogs are more playful and get more attached to their playthings!

Dogs know more than experts believe. When my dog wants something I ask them what do u want, they will answer with a lil woof. I tell them 2 show me and they will show me what they want, out, water , food, attension they will show what they want. They do several other things that my friends say how in the world do they know the differance. REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV YOURDOG/PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U

I have 2 dogs and one is smarter than the other. The older one knows what to do to when she needs to go potty. I have small bells attached to a piece of yarn, and I attached it to the doorknob. She will ring the bell with her front paws to let me know she wants out. She learned it the first day I taught her. She is also smart enough to push the door open to come back in when she is ready. I guess you could call her smare on that aspect. Now, if she were smart enough to close the door so I wouldn't have to lol. She is a bichon and the other is a pom, and she isn't to bright, as she can't push the door open, but she will stand there and bark and let me or the other dog know she wants in lol. So either I will let her in, or wait for the older one to push the door open so they can both come back in. Take care, and happy mylotting.

my dog is lazy and silly. she can sleep throughout the day and has problems to sleep at night so she will come to me and ask me to play with her despite i am tired with eyes half-opened. she is also very silly.once a time she got one of my sock in her mouth(which she really loves to chew over and over again then happily returns it as water-soaked),i chased her after while calling her to come back.she just ran with her eyes fixed on me and head towards me that she ran into a wood chair and made a very loud sound.i bursted into laughter and she just came back somehow or other watching me and also laughed with her dog way.

Every creatures have imagination, realization, thinking and emotions. We the humans can't realize them.We unnecessarily hurt them.We should be kind enough to all animals and birds and even for the insects.

Now that is clever! I do think that we underestimate our dog’s intelligence a lot of the time. I swear she feels emotions too because, nutty as it may sound, I can see them on her face. We have been letting in her in the house a lot more lately because it is winter here and quite cold, especially during the night and when I call her to come in she gingerly comes over, stands in the open doorway and looks at me and my husband in turn with an expression that obviously says, “Are you talking to me? Are you saying I can come in? Really???” You have to see it to appreciate, dogs are smart all right and they understand more than we may realise, I think.

Very cute story, Pat. Years ago, when I was still married, we had a Shih tzu. He hated loud noises. Every time the hubby got our his big red tool box, that little dog knew that a lot of noise would follow! He would always seek me out and beg to be picked up. Only way he felt secure was to be held until the noise stopped lol.

I think my dog understands English. She knows the normal sit, stay and lay down tricks. When its time to giving paw, she's a whiz. I ask her to give me paw and she gives paw, then i ask her for the other paw and she gives me the other paw. We play a game and no matter which paw we start out, she always gives me the other paw. She learned this trick in a matter of minutes. Also i have another dog that is always studying me. He will look at me and then follow my gaze to see what I am looking at and will go get it whatever that is. He always seems to know what I am going to do before I do. I swear he thinks.

Of course he thinks, dogs and other animals communicate by body language so you can bet they watch us all the time. Our dog listens also, if she hears me pick up my glassed she is up asking to go also.

Reading this discussion I really miss my dog-Bubbles. She was so fun to be with! During my work hours I use to be very worried of her being at home alone. I still remember when I used to run home after work just to be with her at the earliest! Now since i'm married and moved to India and I coouldn't bring Bubbles around. But she is all fine with my sister!

Well Moochie isn't really that smart as in like he knows a lot of tricks but he's pretty clever. He knows like he's going to take a bath so he'd run away. And when he'll be left inside the house, he'd run away so we'd chase him endlessly. lol! He's pretty stubborn too! He's pretty good at making a sad face. It works all the time. He like to peek too, i don't know why but it seems like he's suspecting something or getting ready for another run. lol!

you have a very smart dog I dont know about our dog though well every time I arrive home or any member of the house he act like he really misses us and would bark a lot and wiggle his tail and jump on you I find it funny coz sometimes he is like talking or something that makes a sound. and when i grill outside he know that the food is not yet cooked so he went away in a few minutes when i come back to check the grilled meat then he also go near coz he know by that time the meat is already cooked lol he do this all the time never fail

My dog is sort of smart for food. He will wait and wait and wait and when you tell him to sit he sits on command. The funny thing is he puts his hand up for a shake because it's the usual routine. Sit, shake, lay and he gets a treat. He's so accustomed to it now that after he sites he automatically throws a hand at you. I'd say that's adaptation, lol.
