people say that they can speak with their eyes. i always look into the speaker's eyes. i can only figure out if a person is sad or happy by looking in their eyes. i cant read their mind or come to any conclusion about that person. has somebody told that your eyes speak? or have you ever read people's mind by looking in their eyes? i would really like to know if it is true

I don't know , but many people just turn away from me when I look at them. Ha ha ! May be they got the message from my eyes, or may be my eyes are just too unattractive to return the look !
Even if not precisely, I think the eyes do send some message, just like the look on the face ! The difference between a beautiful smile and a stern face !

I don't think anyone can see what I'm thinking through my eyes (I hope not, anyway). But I do know that some people have very expressive eyes, especially some great actors in the old TV shows and movies, when acting wasn't so overdone and obvious as it is today.

Absolutely yes. I come from Africa where more is said using eyes, gesture, body language, etc than using words of mouth. However, speaking with one's eyes, body, gesture, etc can never be appreciated by persons who were not raised in traditional settings.
Apart from this, Africa is rich in oral tradition and the use of proverbs. For instance, I'm a full-blooded Yoruba mman from south-western Nigeria. It's possible for me to communicate in public with another person versed in Yoruba tradition by the way I look at him, my body language and gesture. I many even open my mouth to say something in words, whereas what I mean is not actually the words I uttered! The person I spoke to will understand and decode rightly what I actually said.

Yes i had come across many such people whose eyes speak really. For example the dance mohini attam can deliver the theme of the dance just if we watch their eye movements itself. Similarly there is one aunt in our family who shows eyes to a man whenever she likes him to be with her.

I don't think they mean that literally. It has more to do with facial expressions. Like, for instance, if a bunch of friends are together in a bar, and one friend mentions something to another friend that she was supposed to keep secret, and the friend who told her the secret is giving a facial expression that clearly says, "Shut UP! Why are you telling her that?!"
THAT is what I think of when I think of someone speaking with their eyes. You can also measure a person's sadness, happiness, etc., by looking into their eyes as well.
Regarding reading minds, I am not so sure about that. I know I have never been able to read someone's mind. But I can get a pretty good idea of what they are thinking by reading the expression on their face. It won't be exact, word for word, but it would be close.

yeah! thats true. They say if you wanna know whats the truth. Look to their eyes. You know, its gonna help when you want to know something. For example, if you wanna know something to someone but he/she cant look straight in your eyes. It means there are something in that. Can be lying or what. Well, cant lie!^_^

i agree with you. but not everyone can find find out. some people wear a mask when they lie and make it seem like truth.

For the trained observer the eyes speak volumes. Some people's eyes are so expressive that any one can read them whether they've been trained or not. My sister could put a smile on her face, speak flattering phrases, all the while scolding you (or worse) with her eyes. I've known people whose lips never smiled, but you could see their eyes smiling.

Whether we realise it or not, eyes do convey the actual thoughts that a person has in his/her mind. Some people are quick to notice the subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, changes.
Among the things that need to be looked at are the eye movements and position, the movements of the eyelids and the muscles around the eyes, and the size of the iris. Many can recognise the angry eyes. Does anyone know the state of the eyes when a person is scared? Look at the iris. How about when a person is aroused? Slightly droopy eyes and enlarged irises.
all the best,
rosdimy
