Have you ever been fired, downsized, out sourced, canned, booted or simply let go from a job? In retrospect, can you see any humor in the situation? OK, maybe not "funny" per se, how about interesting twists in a getting fired story? Here is my story, not really funny, but.... I was 8 months out of cancer recovery, working as a receptionist at a small Spa & Salon chain, it was mid march and the flu had hit our area like a plague, and I was the last to get it in our salon. For three days I laid on the bathroom floor praying for death or at least a 40lb blanket to keep me from shivering out of my skin. The phone rang on the third day, it was my manager...now keep in mind I am audibly throwing up while trying to assume some composure for this conversation. Manager asks how I am doing, and my reply was of course "I'm getting better, or at least trying to....". She then says, "this just isn't a good fit, we wish you the best...". I actually laughed, hysterically, into the phone. That threw her quite a bit, so I told her to have a nice day and hung up. Maybe I was fevered, or maybe I just didn't care at that particular moment, either way, I look back on my one and only firing and smile.

The company I worked with for almost 10 years closed shop. Though we(the employees) were advised a year earlier about the closure, still it was very difficult to accept it when the time finally came. No matter how I psyched myself out, nothing felt good about losing a job. Then I realized I should look at the positive side of it - we were given a good settlement, the company paid each employee more than what was provided for in the company policy. I was able to put up a small business from my separation pay. Now I work for myself, I'm the boss, and I'm able to provide jobs for my 5 staff. I now think losing my job was a blessing in disguise.

I got fired from my first ever proper job at McDonalds, this was because I started a relationship with a co-worker. Bear this in my there was another couple in there! My manager told me if I wanted to keep the job I would need to stop having a relationship. (me and my ex worked different shifts and never met up inside work hours not even for lunch). So I told him I was not prepared to do this. The manager started being really horrible to me during my shifts and one day it got so bad (he told me I was a useless, horrible cow) so I threw a burger at him had a meeting the next day and got fired. I took them to a tribunal was offered my job back and the manager got fired instead. I refused the job bakc as I had already got a better job with higher pay while waiting for the tribunal. I thought that was a brilliant result!

This is my first job, so i really cant relate much to you experience. But i belong to this decorations committee at work, we also set up stage and do stat updates and stuff. But we are required to meet at the metrics at the same time show a good performance since we are given the priviledge to work additional overtime on top of our regular shift for doing the decorations. 2 weeks ago, i was told that im not allowed to work OT anymore because of i didnt meet one of our metrics. I was given until next week to make up and ill be back to working on the decorations again. This feels bad because i know there are lots of activities coming and i wanted to help at the same earn extra. ive been performing good and i know ill be back with the group in no time. Wish em luck!

Yes your fevered because I would of flipped only because she new you were sick, and it was common it wasn't like it just popped out of no where everyone around you had it. I think she should of been women enough to tell you to your face and give you an explanation as to why. I think her firing you over the phone was cowardly...

Definitely cowardly, yet typical of the her. The punch line is she got fired about 9 months later, by E-mail! karmic justice wins again! lol

Sounds to me like your manager was fishing for an excuse to get rid of you, but couldn't think of one on her own. You, at home being ill, seemed to foot the bill, and it also meant that she didn't have the guts to tell you face to face. With people like that, you're better off being without them. If you had of stayed, chances are you and/or your position would have been abused, at some point or another. Stay well, find a better job, and surround yourself with a better class of people, like yourself. All the best of luck. cdrxo

I wish I could say I have only been fired once, but I have been fired three times in my life, and it sucked every time. I lost a REALLY good bartending job at a fine dining restaurant three weeks before CHristmas and right after I got married. I was not sleeping with the right person apparently! Do I look back at it and laugh? Well, not really. That one still burns me. The other two firings were my fault and I knew it, so I really had no one to blame but me. I look back on those two jobs as lessons. I try not to repeat mistakes, but I am human. Thanks for the question! Are we having fun yet?

fortunately, i never been fired before from a job as this is the only job that i had been doing since i started and i am just too lazy to look for another one... i try my very best to work hard and keep the job as i don't like the feeling of being fired... i think your manager is not doing the right thing to fire you when you are so sick... anyway, it is good that you can take it from a positive side and not unhappy about it... take care and have a nice day...

I am lucky to say that I have not been fired. One company that I worked for was downsizing and they started letting managers go first. I had been looking for another job already and had one lined up so I did not have to worry about being fired because I was already going to leave. All of the people that were getting let go did not seem to care that they were getting fired. I am glad that they were able tpo find other work as I have talked to them since then.

I never had the chance to get fired from my job. I'm always the one who leave my job first. I don't know why I don't stay long in a job maybe because I can sense that they are going to fire me so I do it first.lol.

My guess is that you're happy you got fired unconsciously :) Well, nobody wants to get fired, but I did last year... voluntarily! One of the reason is there's no progress in career. And also I could use the money for starting my own business. Why it is funny? Because after that some of my colleagues in the office who also tired of working with the company are doing the same thing like I did. Sadly, none of them get approved.

I lived in Utah and worked for the sweetest lady doing customer service. She decided to move her company to Texas and asked if I wanted to move . So I moved to texas . Her daughter ran the company . She is one of those people wo dont work for what they get , they just get it because there parents give it to them .To put it nicely we didn;t get along and I was let go. I got a job very soon after and the lady that worked thre introduced me to her son and we have no been together for 2 years and I love him so much
