Well, watching anime has enticed me to want to learn Japanese but I guess there's a lot more things to consider before I could actually be fluent talking Japanese. I like the sound when they pronounce certain words, how they greet each other, how they make a conversation, among others.

It was the only way to understand what's being said on the variety shows on tv when I first started going nuts over a japanese boy group. Learning japanese was a great experience for me, not only do I learn the language, I learnt the culture that goes with it. Understanding japanese humor gave me a great sense of achievement, when I tried to explain what was so funny to someone who doesn't know the culture. Though my level of understanding is considered poor still, I can still move about Japan somewhat like a native. That I think makes me real glad I took up learning of it.

Japanese and the Chinese languages are quite different in grammar and vocabulary. It's only really the writing system that bears some resemblance. Anyway, I wanted to learn it because I just love languages, thought that was the next one and loved it, so I continued to learn it and now I'm learning it at uni! :)

I want to learn Japanese because, aside from Chinese, I think it is one of the most widely used and known Asian language. Though Korean is also spreading especially with the popularity of their shows. I also think that its because of the popularity of manga and anime that's why Japanese has had that appeal. Though learning a second or a third language in itself is already an accomplishment but still wanting to learn more is for self growth. Whatever you decide in pursuing a second/third language, goodluck and take care always.^_^

I want to learn Japanese because I have some friends from Japan and because I would love to visit Japan in the future. Some years ago I went to a Danish/Japanse school in Denmark. At that school some of the students were Japanese and the others were Danish. It was a very interesting experience for me to be at that school. I made many Japanese friends and I learned a lot about Japan and about the Japanese culture. The Japanese students learned about Denmark, the Danish language, the Danish society etc. At that school I started learning the Japanese language, but I am stil a beginner and I want to learn some more.

Interest in Japanese culture. It's not only anime/manga, although admittedly it is often because of it and I actually do love watching animes and reading mangas. Business and job opportunities. The less tha language is spoken, especially when its the language of the second economic power of the world after the US, the better jobs opportunities it offers. Very few people outside Japan, especially in the west, can speak Japanese. Add that most Japanese can't speak English well either, and it's really a good investment.

Japanese kanji and traditional chinese characters are similar, because japanese and koreans adopt some chinese characters long time ago. But then, Koreans make their own language while japanese keep using traditional chinese characters as their language. When China simplified their language, kanji and chinese characters become a bit different. But if u learn chinese, I bet u can read japanese as well!
