Now I have to wait for test results

I just got back from the doctors and we decided to run the test for lyme before we start treating it. Like me, my doctors' office is not quick to dish our meds if they are not needed. So, I should have the test results Wednesday. So, why were they able to tell us in 15 minutes that my dog had lyme and it takes humans 3 days? Of course I have no other symptoms, just a bullseye around where I was bitten by a tick. If I would have had a fever, headaches or joint pain they would have put me on the medicine right away. We're hoping that I don't have it, it's just a huge hassle.

You know why it takes so long, the test has to go to the lab, then the results to the lab doctor, then to your doctor so that you can book a return visit. Each step at the allowed fee and you wonder why our health care is the most expensive in the world. I say this betting you are in the US.

You know pat, you are not savy for nothing. We do have a lot more steps towards treating our selves than we do for our pets. It almost makes you think they get better care than we do.

I guess if I had pet insurance they'd do all those steps to get more money too! You are so right though - even though I wont have to do a followup visit, they'll just call in my meds if I need it. But everyone has to get their piece of the pie!

Some normal insect bites can do that ,I was bitten a little while ago and boy did I have a nasty spot it welled right up and when it burst it was like the rivers of babylon with puse it makes me feel sick looking at it.but what a relief it was when it eventually burst, did it on its own with no meds.

Yeah, that's why the doctor said to wait for the test results. I don't have any other symptoms, so they think I might not have it.

Sounds like it is just straight forward for you. They sometimes just go through the motions to put your mind at rest.

So, what made you take your dog to the vet. Did he appear sick, or have symptoms? I hope you do not have lyme disease, and the second hope is if you do you can take one of the meds that they give for it. Some of them are very effective.

Sable was limping then her foot was way swollen, then she was very lethargic. Otherwise I would have never known she had lyme. She did have all the symptoms though!

You are fortunate that your doctor was quick to run the tests. I have two aunts and a cousin that have lyme disease and it took one aunt several years of thousands of tests and medical problems before they finally determined it was lyme disease. I don't want to scare you but make sure the doctors start right away with the treatments if necessary, because she has to take antibiotic IVs a couple times a day because they caught it so late. Just keep on top of it and everything will be good.

Fortunately I don't have any other symptoms so they're thinking it might just be something else that's not to worry about. I'll know tomorrow though, even though sometimes it can take years before you show symptoms. I'll have to be more aware of it for a while now.
