Do You Think Our Past Life Affects The Life We Are Living Now

I know deep question for a Sunday, but I have been pondering this for some time now, for those that obviously believe in reincarnation and I myself am a strong believer it helps me to look forward to death rather than fear it. The question is when bad things happen to us in this life, do you think we are being punished for being bad in our last life? What if we were a rapist, or a murderer or a con man/woman in our previous life and we have been sent back to this Earth to be punished, like karma. With karma obviously whatever you give out to people you get back in return, so what if we were nasty, evil or brutal to people in our previous life, is it karma finally catching up with us? Do you often ask yourself 'What have I done to deserve this' when you feel that life is kicking you in the teeth once too often? When you are going through a terrible time in your life, and you see others having a wonderful life, enjoying every minute when you hate every minute of your life? Why do you think we get punished in this life, have bad things happen to us, do you wonder why it is you that is getting the cr*p life? Do you think you are getting a cr*p life because of what you were in your past life? Why do some people just get everything in life? Do you think they had a rotten life the last time round and they are getting rewarded and getting a better life this time round? I hope when I die, my next life will be far more happier and I will enjoy life more. And I will get rewarded for having had a bad life this time round, hopefully my next reincarnation I will be much happier What is your take on your past life. Do you know why some people have a rotten life whilst others have everything they could ever want in life?

Hi wolfie! I must admit that I did believe in reincarnation at one point in my life, but that has all changed now. I now find that I am of the mind that when we die it is The End. I have never thought at the times when my life was at a low point that the cause might be due to something I did in a former life. I believe that is all a big cop out. In all likelihood, if my life is crappy now it is most likely due to sins I have committed in this life. Anyway, the way I see it is that it is all in the luck of the draw: Much of what happens to us is a result of being in the right or wrong place at any given time. I would even say that, yes, it might just be that we were born under an unlucky star. I'm sure that many people will disagree with me on this, but it is how I feel.

I often do wonder why some people seem to have cr@p piled on them from every direction, whilst others seem to have a charmed life. However, I also believe a lot of what we reap is what we have sowed - if we are very negative and miserable in our outlook, we will attract negativity and also bring the people around us down - which may well result in lost friendships, relationships and marriages. My brother was always very negative - he found it easy to blame the world for his problems, even though he'd caused many of them himself by poor choices he'd made. He even blamed ME because he said I was the favourite child as I was smart at school (not true). I would hate to think we are paying in this life for what we'd done before in another life - but it could well be the case, as it's said we come back to learn deeper life lessons. I think there is a lot we can do to change the course of our lives - starting with a more optimistic outlook, and an effort to pull free from things we feel are restricting or depressing us. Most of us are probably too lazy (or frightened) to attempt huge life changes - but the first step could be the beginning of a giant leap, and life (the one we're in at the moment, anyway), is far too short to sit around waiting for things to magically come to us.

I guess that's like karma too if you are nasty or unfriendly to others then the karma will come back and hit you twofold. I tend to be very pessimistic and very negative so I guess I too reap what I sow, it's a double edged sword isn't it and it's also very very difficult to break out of the cycle, I have tried countless times to be positive in life but a setback brings me crashing down again and hugging my negativity like a security blanket, I can't part with it. So I continue the same cycle over and over again and yes I am guilty too of being too lazy to make dramatic changes because again it's like stepping out of your comfort zone into the unknown which can be a very scary place indeed.

I'm not sure if I believe in reincarnation, if I did I must have been very bad in some past life to deserve 3 daughters AND Mr Croc. If there is a next life I'm coming back as a sloth.

I do not believe in the concept of second life and reincarnations and afterlife, so I can't really make a point on how past life affects us, but we all sure can agree that what we did in the past really affects our future. The concept of karma and all is fine, but I think what happens now and what will happen 2mrw is all in our hands. Man is the maker of his own destiny and I think it would be unfair to blame someone else for what we are. If I do a mistake some days ago and it comes back to haunt me, II do not blame this on my doing in the past life, but I would blame it on myself for doing that mistake some days ago. bourne

Hi Wolfie, as a Chinese, I strongly believe in reincarnation and that what we have done in our present life will affect my next life. Since young, my parents have been telling me and my sister the importance of being a good and kind person so that we will not be born as animals in our next life. The Chinese strongly believe that everything in our life is fated. In our current life, we are here to pay our debts that we incurred during our previous life. That is why, in our present life, we must be a good and kind person so that you will be reincarnated with a good next life.

Hi. I believe in reincarnation, and I also believe what we did must have a lasting effect on our later life, or the so-called next time round. Believing this makes me cherish what I have owned, and work harder so as not to be punished in the next round. This kind of belief may seem like superstition, and has never gained any wide prrof in this world, but it is helpful. For example, when I am happy, I tend to share it with all the people around me; when I am rich, I like to help those who suffers from poor condition;when I am down and lonely, I know that's because I did not do goodness the other day, or I made some mistakes but did not correct it,or I hurt someone. It's like a star, which shines all the way you have wawlked, and tells you what you should do in the future path. Anyway, I hope you can make it. Never complain the things around you, because existence is reasonable.

Certainly our past life affects this present life throught the unforbidden wheel of action or what we call locally as 'Karma-chakra'. We must have to face the consequences of our actions. This is unforbidden as well as undeniable. Our actions only determine the destiny for us! Even it has been observed that life of today is affected by the life of a day before! Our status of life is the combined result of so many active moments those we put in the process of our actions for livelyhood or for a better life!! Thanks for this nice discussion and have a nice day!!

Yes I do strongly believe that our past reflects the life we live now. In a case where we were mistreated for a number of years should be no excuse for the mistakes we make today but for some reason it seems to always be an issue. It's like raising kids I wanted to raise my daughter My Way and I did but how many times did I think after a disapline issue, "OMG I sound like my mother" For people who are conficted of murder and other serious offences the same thing applies, it's often said, "Oh he/she has always been an abused child etc." At some point we all need to take responsibility for our actions and our past should never be grounds for forgiveness. I do believe there is a day coming that we will need to answer to our past. I also believe we are all here to learn something for me I am quite sure I will be in a better place when God decides he has prepared the place I deserve and I am positive it will be better than anything I've had here and my only ache will be the pain I feel missing my daughter and her family. Thank You for the post and have a Great Day!!!

Well I think at some point for most people, what they are on their past affects of what they are now.. Whether it's good or bad. I like watching documentary shows and I have somewhat good example based on it, I remember this inspiration story about a man that used to be a real poor one when he was young.. His whole clan is poor and it seems there's no way of them to progress. However, he's all determine, he had dreams.. And this doesn't stop him to follow what his dreams are.. He worked hard and believed in what he can do to achieve those, and now, he owns a big 5-Star Hotel in my country, not to mention, he has his own lots and still have other business.. On the other hand, some people may have bad experiences on their past, and that they let go of these and they move forward.. Somewhat they probably have forgotten it, but in my opinion I still think whatever experiences a person may have, these would affect of who and what a person is at present and it's all up to a person how to deal with his life and make it a better and productive experience..

Hey wolfie! I sure hope that there is a damn good explanation for this miserable phucking life that I am living now! I can't imagine what I might have done in a past life to deserve the crap that I am getting in this one! I just don't now what to think! I am sure as hell tired of trying to figure out why the life I'm living now sucks and I would like to know what I'm being punished for! Whoever I was reincarnated from must have been a really bad person because I sure haven't had one minute of happiness in my life!

I want to believe that we all live one life and then die and go to heaven. But if that was the case, then how does our souls evolve? Because I have a hard time believing that we have learned from all of our mistakes in one life time.

But won't you think that what is the past is the past. You can't un - done what you had done in your previous life. Anyone should be given a second chance, don't you think? If what you believe is right, God, or whatever the Super being will be, should allow you to have the second chance to redeem your sins. So, don't worry about it, do what is right for you.

Hello Wolfie! I believe in past life affects. We all a born with purpose. I do think we basically repaying for our karmas on our past birth. In addition to that, we make mistake in this birth as well, which basically compiling for next birth. To reduce this karma, I usually donate to the poor whenever I can.
