Do you ever put cheese in your mashed potatoes?

I love fresh mashed potatoes. But most of the time I do not have the time to fix them. So it is instant from the box we use. We had them with dinner last night. And I put shredded cheese in them to doctor them up. Ever do that? What else have you used to spice up your mashed potatoes?

Well one thing you can do is a dish called bubble and squeak but it originated really to use up leftovers. Cook some onions in a frying pan with peas, Chopped up leftover meat, anything you like really, then add the mashed potato to the pan and press over everything until it all browns together, you could add cheese on top and then finish it off under the grill. If you make a big pan of mashed potato instead of instant you can used the left over potato on the second day to make bubble and squeak so you only need to cook the potatoes on one day.

oh no wonder people rave about bubble and squeak that really sounds delicious, wish they would make that here. Like last night we had nachos for dinner but their version was some large taco chips and chopped lettuce, tomato, crumbled hamburger and a stingy amount of shredded cheese with a dab of sour cream on top, pretty much all the right ingredients but to me nachos always meant a lot of cheese and a lot of sour cream in it. but still it was pretty good to eat.

I have used cheese in mine multiple times and used different cheeses for different taste. I have used sour cream in them or even ranch dip and dressing..I have used garlic powder and Mrs. Dash garlic and herb. I love mashed potatoes and the box variety do get a little bland and need help. My husband won't eat them unless I make them real potatoes and he doesn't like all the extras added but milk, salt, pepper and butter. But me, I am adventurous and like to experiment with different things..

hi ersmommy1 I hate the boxed stuff so always just cook real potatoes. I like cheese with some crumbled crisp bacon or shred of ham, and sometimes I have chopped some green pepper that was just cooked tender crisp into my potatoes. always I had to have my sour cream fix with my baked potatoes too. but not with mashed of course.

Sure, I have added cheese. With the instant I always add a little extra butter to make them taste better, also adding a teaspoon of sour cream can make them taste better and creamier as well. For fresh potatoes I have used cheese, bacon bits, cream cheese, and sour cream to make them taste better I have also used a bit of garlic powder before in them.

I find the ragu sauces works well mixed in with mashed potatoes. That is, the alfredo sauce. You might try it.

We are potato lover here to. What i do instead of the dehydrated potatoes is to boil up 5 lbs. at a time then I mash them add my butter and milk then add different things like cheese, creamed cheeses and spinach to my mashed potatoes after dividing them up into several different meals worth. Then I freeze them so we have mashed potatoes any time some one wants them.

I love spicy mashed potatoes and often use basil, garlic and other spices to add flavor to an otherwise plain meal. I use salt in the mashed potatoes as that brings out all the sharp flavors and makes them not taste so bland.

I have used cheese, sour cream, chives, bacon, extra butter, ranch dressing, roasted garlic, minced garlic,... I can get pretty creative with the ashed potatoes. From scratch or out of a box.

My step-dad used to make his potatoes with shrimp, a bunch of different cheeses, sour cream, bacon... I can't even remember what else. The first time I made my own mashed potatoes it was just before my husband and I began dating. We were hanging out that night, as just friends, and we decided to have a barbeque. He grilled some chicken while I made the potatoes. I added 8 oz of cheddar, a cup of sour cream, and a handful of cooked bacon. He loved them!

Yup, I put cheese on mash potatoes sometimes specially if I will bake them. I have a recipe of baked mashed potatoes and with that I will put cheese on it. I don't usually use ready made mashed potatoes. I use the fresh potatoes, boil it and mashed it. I usually put milk, butter and a little salt in my mash potatoes.

Back when the kids were home I never made anything but fresh mashed potatoes. Now that it is just the two of us I use instant potatoes a lot. I usually dress them up with a little garlic and cheese. Sometimes I add sour cream too as well as fresh herbs, like basil or parsley. It's just too much trouble to make mashed potatoes for two people!

I usually make my mashed potatoes and then once on the plate I mix it with vegetables, such as corn, string beans or peas and carrots. Hmmm!
