When you apply for a credit card, usually you will be asked whether you like a Visa or a Master card. I wonder what's the difference between them. As I feel they work the same.

Hi youless, initially I have got a master card only. I find it’s quite convenient to use it to do some of the purchasing in some of the outlets most of the time. One day while filling gasoline in a nearby petrol station the salesman there told me that I could get 5% of discount if using visa card when I wanted to insert my card into the slot of the machine. I asked why not the master card. He then told me that there was promotion and offer for visa card owner only. Since then I applyied a new visa card. I’m so happy that I own two different cards at the moment. I could enjoy the offer of either card at any time now. This is the only difference that I know about visa and master card so far Happy posting and have a wonderful day!

Nice to know that you have interest in both the visa and master cards. I like the logo of master card the more, for the design and color of it looks rather lively and attractive

There is not much difference as to the services are. They are both companies that offer the same line of services and basically its for credit. I am not sure which is more acceptable around the world but I think visa has more acceptability than master card. I could be wrong. I have a visa credit card and master card. Both of them are merchant accounts. But the very first credit card that I had is visa. This is why, I prefer to use visa than the other card.

Here in the States Visa is accepted more places. Besides that, I think they are the same. but there could be some differences but i don't know of any, The best thing to do is read the fine print and see if there really is a difference.

I think they are pretty much the same. Just like two different brands, they are two different companies offering the same services. I don't really mind whether my card is a Visa or a Mastercard since both their services are good

I handles credit cards before and they work the same. The only difference is that it both came from different provider and its Visa and Master aside from that there's no more difference. They function completely the same. Same location for CVV numbers as well.

You know, I have had both, and never really noticed a difference. Some places accept one, some the other, some both. They can all get you into a lot of trouble, or they can all be very convenient.

That's like asking what the difference is between Pepsi and Coke. Both are exactly the same. Visa and Master Card are both major credit card companies, like American Express and Discover. For whatever reaon they give different companies different deals or whatever, and that's why some people take only Visa, only Master Card, both or none, depending on what they want.

I don't think Pepsi and Coke is the same. I personally think Pepsi is sweeter and I like it much more

They work the same. Those are different merchant providers. For customer there is no different. It used to be that Visa was more popular but now both are very popular.

youless, There is not much of a difference between the two as they are both credit cards. However, of the two, VISA is much more widely accepted and received. So, preference will be for VISA than Master Card in this aspect. After all, you will need to pay annual membership fees for both the cards, and since VISA is relatively sufficient for your charging needs, I would just forgo the other. It is a matter of being economical here. On the other hand, I have friends who use both cards, in a way to separate business and personal expenses i.e. VISA for business and Master Card for personal. In a way, when certain establishments do not accept Master Card, they can also consider saving that expenditure for some good. Have a nice day.

Here I don't have to pay any extra fee for my credit card. As long as I consume anything 6 times by credit card within a year, no charge at all. You know it's so easy to finish it as I always prefer to use credit card

youless, Well, that is quite pleasing to know, however, please be aware of your spendings. Make sure, you are not enticed to spend beyond your affordability. Take care.

Interesting question. I never thought about it. My bank card came as a Visa and I didn't get to pick. I think there's not much of a difference though.
