The Great wall of China was made much before the Tajmahal was built. Now my question out of these two (if you have seen both) which would you give more credit to - is it Great wall of China or the Shahjahan made Tajmahal?

I have seen both through pictures only and so i cannot give the right assessment, but i would prefer to say the Taj Mahal being an Indian.

Yes, being an Indian giving credit to Taz is natural. Thanks for the response.

I think it would be the Great Wall. The Tajmahal is lovely but it just seems like the wall had more work put in and is more impressive.

Yes, I could not but agreeing to your point but from the point of view of artistic level Taz would take over the GWC.

I haven't had the chance to visit any of them but from the purpose of building them I would say they both are great love is such a strong emotion, any building built on this purpose will no doubt be a great piece of architecture to love a country is not different from loving someone the drive to protect and defend the country made the Emperor ordered the Great wall to be made where as Tajmahal is clearly a symbol of love how do you compare one love to another? I can't other people don't see these buildings that way they forget how strong love is and what love can make us do

great wall of China - great wall of China, tourist distination
I think in my opinion that Great wall of China is greater than those of Tajmajal. Because the wall is long and situated in top of the mountains. The people who built it suffer lot's of hardships because they have to encounter some hard rock and not pleasant weather condition. That long wall needs a lot of workers to finish it. For every brick that shape the wall is mixed with the workers sweat and blood. It is a living evidence that man can make some impossible things if given the chance.

Yes, I agree with you. But it took 20 years to complete the Tajmahal with with 2000 workers working everyday.

Rajib- I cannot give more credit to one then the other. They are both great wonders of the world. I am saddened though that perhaps I may not make it to see the Great Wall of China in my lifetime. I saw a documentary on it and apparently it is beginning to crumble in certain parts due to the years of war. China is trying to restore it, but it may very well not stand the test of time. Of course, I do wish to also view the Tajmahal but all shall depend upon where this life journey takes me. Namaste-Anora

Hi Anora, Very aptly put. This is has been hundreds of years the GWC was made and it is likely that unless reconstruction is carried upon it would crumble and comparatively the Taj is recent and it is still in its former form. Thanks a lot.

I have seen neither in person but I would say the wall is called great because it is great in size. The Taj Mahal is great architecurally and is has a special story about its creation.

Hi Rajib! I think, there should be no comparison for both are so different and so beautiful in their own ways. So, I cannot compare. Both are grea creations and I appreciate the creators.

Yes Mimpi, a comparison would be unfair as both are splendid work of art.

Rajib I have not seen both. But I am not qualified to day which is greater ; I am sure both would have their share of merits because both are part of the seven wonders. One is in India and so the chances of my visiting this place gets relatively easier.THat is all.I cannot take sides.

Have not been to both these places but have heard of them. Well, I think both these places are great and have rich historical records attached to them. I find Taj Mahal to be so magnificent and the story behind it is so dramatic. I think in this century no one has ever come up with such a novel idea compared to people of those era that can think of building something beyond imagination. Given the choice to choose, I would go for Taj Mahal as the beauty and story behind it attracts me more.

Hi, zands, Yes I must respect your aesthetic interpretation though I feel both are great for the GWC too is a work that modern men can not think. But the grandeur of the Taj is unique in itself.

They are quite different in intention as well as appearance. The Taj was built, as I understand it, as a tomb for a much-loved wife while the Wall was built for defense. They are both truly great feats of construction but the Taj was built for love while the Wall was built to repel. While the Wall would fill me with awe, I think the Taj would move me to tears.

Hi, Yes, you are right that the two can not be compared for the objective of building the two were different but the similar point is they are both great.

My goodness, not a fair comparison. The Great Wall is awesome mostly because of it's incredible size and the Taj Mahal is just beautiful. Both are great in their own way. It's like asking what's more beautiful, the Alps or the Grand Canyon!

Hi dawn, Yeah, accepted that it was not a fair comparison but could be compared from the perspective of the structure. Thanks a lot.

Hi friend, From the point of view of giant wall and the year it took and lives as well in construction of the GWC one could give a credit to it.

Although im indian, i rather choose the wall since it is much greater btween the two,, can be seen from space also. The work force of the GWC is amazing, although its made for defence purpose, the idea is great. I'd love to visit it.

No, this is a fallacy which predates the space age. Even from low-earth orbit, the shuttle astronauts cannot see it without binoculars. The Wall is built of materials that blend in with the surroundings from that height. (As opposed to cities and airport runways, which are sometimes visible.) There is a mistaken belief that it can be seen from the Moon, but obviously this is not possible, and neither can any man -made object be seen from the Moon. Images taken of earth with 2X zoom have shown a faint line where the Wall is, but it cannot be clearly seen from space. However, you can see Big Ben, the Pentagon, and the Mississippi River.

I have never seen these two places in person but have seen lots of pictures. I think between the two I would rather see the Great Wall of China. The fact that the wall is very old and still standing (I am sure some repair has been done to it over the years) is amazing. Plus from the pictures I have seen, the view is amazing. Nothing against the Tajmahal..it seems like a beautiful place.
