Officially Unemployed

United States

Well I am officially unemployed right now. On Monday I got laid off because the amount of business was going downhill really fast because of the economy. I filed for unemployment today and now I need to find another job. Oh the fun. At least I have plans, I'm going to get my CNA certificate so then I can get a job in a hospital...hopefully it all works out because I'm bored at home. It's only been 2 days and I've been out running errands but it's just boring sitting at home doing absolutely nothing. At least now I can spend more time doing mylot and maybe reach payout this month.

It's really sad how the economy is going, we read unemployment rate rising everyday. I wonder when this is going to end? When I was unemployed I baked pastries and sold them to relatives and friends. It was fun because I was able to polish my culinary skills and earn, and had more time with my kids. Getting a CNA certificate is a good way to go because healthcare is one of the few industries that has high manpower demand despite bad economy. In no time you'll be back in the race again and you'll be glad you made that decision. Happy myLotting!

Right now I'm making purses and different crocheted items. I am selling them on etsy.com. My store's name is allaboutcrochet if you would like to check it out. I only have 2 items on there right now because I started it only yesterday. But I hope to make some extra money doing that. And yeah healthcare is the best field to get into because people will always be sick. Plus with the nursing shortage there is a good chance I can get a hospital or nursing home to help pay for me to get a nursing degree.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your job. It's good that you filed for unemployment right away! I'm sure it's running out of funds - but they MUST help you. Anyway, at least now you have time to pursue your CNA. Which is better for you anyway. There are less layoffs in hospitals. I have a Civil Engineering degree and love what I do, except my hours have been reduced. I'm thinking of going into nursing of some sort, mainly for the cash. And yeah, the security. Only thing though - I do not like biology, physiology, biochemistry, the list goes on and on and on. So yes, I would only be doing it for money. I decided to study for my professional license instead. That's much easier. =P

LOL. Well if you don't like those classes then you'll definitely be doing it for the money. My cousin just finished nursing school. He had his CNA and then he got his schooling paid for. The security is a good thing for working in a hospital. Plus I will get good healthcare benefits. From what I understand CNA's make decent money for it not being a degree...so that's a good thing. And yeah, unemployment better help me! I definitely need the help so that I can live and pay my bills. :-p And thanks for wishing me luck.

Of course I will keep you guys updated :-) What do you do as a work from home mom? What type of jobs do you have/get. I'm confident because the economy has to turn around at some point and time...at least I hope it's sooner rather than later.

I know how you feel about being bored. My youngest started Kindergarten this past year and I've been looking for a job ever since. Now my husband is afraid that his company is going to go under because they're not making any money. He builds and installs cabinets for a living, and I guess since nobody was/is buying houses or remodeling there isn't a whole lot of work for them to do. I hope you find a job soon.

Thanks and I wish you luck on your job search. I know that at least down here in Florida are starting to remodel their house. So maybe his business will pick up a little bit. Good luck with everything :-)

I'm sorry, I know from experience how frustrating unemployment can be; while you take the wonderful advice of all the commentors don't forget to enjoy this time to yourself as well. Pull out that list - be it a physical one or a mental one - and do some of the "cost-effective" things you've always wanted to do but never had time to do...like fishing or reading a particular book (cost effective because you can check it out at the Library instead of buying it).

I have a list of things that I want to get done around the apartment. I want to organize all of my stuff and decide what I want to get rid of and what to keep. I have so much stuff that it's unreal.

My parents are actually happy because this is forcing me to do what I want to do, become a nurse. My dad works for the same company that I did work for. He is the VP of a different division and of course he's not happy that they laid me off when there were 2 other people that had lower activity than me, but oh well, not going to dwell on anything like that. At least I don't have the stress of sales right now.

I am unemployed also. It three weeks, and I have yet to receive unemployment. They said I will receive my check this week as a lump sum for the three weeks. I know what you mean about being bored. I have done a lot of stuff around the house that needed to be done. I have decided to register for some classes and change career. You should have no problem getting a job as a CNA. My girlfriend did that and was employed as soon as she was finish.

I hope things work out for you. Hospitals always need people I'm sure. the economy is tough on us here too because hubby works in auto industry which is hit hard. I wish he works somewhere else but it's too late now, not many companies are hiring these days.

Its good to have plans. It will help you land a nice job, after your CNA certification. Another good thing is that no one can ever take away your certification. Here is an addition job search tool hen you are ready to find your next job. http://www.jobsforkarma.com
