Starting a Discussion: A responsibility

India
July 3, 2009 2:31pm CST
I do not start much discussions on myLot, because I strongly feel that it's a big responsibilty. It involves active participation with the responders, and great knowledge about the subject. Though I have seen a lot of (greedy) myLotters who are here just for the money, and will create a discussion about just anything. I feel pity on them, as to how they let go a wonderful community of interesting people for some bucks. So, are you responsible enough to start a discussion?

Ahhhh I like the way you think. I think the same way - I started a discussion about limiting the number of discussion a member can have in a 24-hour period. That would really encourage people to think about what they should start before starting it. Thank you - this is just affirmation of what I already know. Cheers!

Thanks for your quick response. I also think that we should limit response, it will give rise to more sensible, and interesting threads, as everyone will try to attract more and more posters. Thanks for your reply.

I don't start a lot of discussions. I think it is hard to find an original topic, because there are already a lot of discussions, and most topics have already been covered many, many times. If someone has already made a discussion about the topic that I am interested I often respond to one of the existing discussions instead of starting my own discussion. I agree with you, I think that you have got a responsibility if you start a new discussion. I don't comment on every response in my discussions, but I read and rate them all and I answer the questions that I get, I would never just start a discussion and then leave it.

Thanks for agreeing with me. You are right, that you need to be very creative when finding a topic to discuss about.

Hey...I always think about this thing what you have written here. I start a discussion when I want to learn something or I have a query about something. I have also been seeing lot of people starting useless discussions just to make money...not only this...they reword their discussions and replies and post them again and again...it's a real pity. You are right that starting a discussion is a real responsibility. I have also seen people here who start a discussion and do not even care so say thanks.

Hi, ya i'm agree with you that starting a discussion is not that as many people thinking. A good discussion starter or owner will have to bear the responsibility to continuously monitor and giving feedback or respond to the comments from others. Those are what true discussions are, they should be of two ways communications, and having constructive inputs and feebacks. It's undeniable that there're also lots of people are here for some earnings. There's not much thing we can do to for it. We can't just say, "hey, you should be responsible for your discussion, please give good quality feedback,..." and so on to others. Though, at least for those of us who realise these, at least we can do our part, to be a good discussion owner, as well as a good responder.

That's what I am talking about. People are becoming far more lenient about their discussions. Just creating them and leaving. A good discussion is always two-sided, as you said. Thanks for your response.

Hey I feel the same way! And then I feel like I have to choose the best response which sometimes I don't know which to pick. heh

Haha, even I get confused when picking the best response, since everyone seems so just. I usually award the first sensible response as the best respose, a kind of early bird prize.

Ya, early birds do get an early reward. I have won the best response for like 16-17 times, I don't remember precisely though.

Heh, yeah, that means the early bird is the lucky bird! Have your response to people ever been graded best one? just wondering, hehe

I most certainly do post comments to all the responses I get not matter how many there are. It is my duty and right to do so. I have one discussion that has 20 responses, and another one has 37 responses. I just feel that if they are going to take the time to respond, then I am going to take the time to post comments back. I will not let a discussion go without doing my part. Well, good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I don't start all that many discussions, but when I do, I make it a point to read all responses and comment on them, and I don't just give a thank you for your response, like I have see some do. I feel that I have a duty and a right to post comments to all responses that I get, no matter how many that may be. One discussion I started had 20 responses and another one had 37, and I commented on each and every one of them as well. They took the time to respond, so I took the time to comment back. I never just leave a discussion hagnging without commenting on the responses, and after all, when we do comment, we get paid for them, as long as they are quality and not just a few words or one liners. Well, good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Thanks for your response, rosekiss. I also tend to respond to the people who participate in my discussion, though, many a times I am not able to do this due to time limitations. That's why you need a lot of spare time to actually start a discussion.

I've been on Mylot for almost 3 months, and my discussions have just gone into double figures - and that only happened because I mistakenly posted the same discussion twice! I agree with you - too many people are starting frivolous discussions, with one eye on their earnings and no brain power in the discussion. I think if people were allowed to post a maximum of 5 discussions a day, that would improve matters. I also think that people who do not comment on any of their responses should lose their earnings for that discussion. You don't need to comment on every response - some responses don't invite comments anyway - but some people just post the topic and never go back to that discussion to check responses. Deleting the discussion would mean the responders would lose out as well, but if the offending discussion leader lost earnings, it would make them think again, as they don't like to be hit in the pocket. Good topic.

I agree with you too, Ruby. Even I am much of a responder rather than a starter.
