What is a Good Image Editing Program?

I am running windows xp and would like to put a good image editing program on my computer to use but I don't really know of a good one. I had a couple on here but I had to restore my system and lost them. They weren't really that impressive anyway. I want something that is simple to use but has plenty of options for editing your pictures. Something that makes resizing pictures a little less of a nightmare and one with touch up options also. If anyone has suggestions for a good image editing program please let me know. Thanks

Ok... if you're looking for a simple but very effective image editor & offered a lot of options while making a project... I wouldn't recommend Photoshop for the job, but it's the most used program out there for image editing... For more lightweight task & simplicity, I'd recommend FastStone Capture or GFX... I use FastStone for resizing my images, & it has an automatic setting to do that...really great app!

Thanks for the tip on faststone. I find that some really good image editors lack the simplicity of an easy to use resizing feature and I will also use a separate editor just for resizing. Thanks again!

I think a good image-editing program is photoshop. The latest is very expensive, but you can get cheaper versions (eg. Photoshop 6) that would do a great job. Try googling it or looking on ebay.. - Derek

You can use many photo editing software but I suggest you use Picasa. Adobe photoshop is good also but I prefer using Picasa. It has a lot of editing tools and it can make a picture perfect. What I love the most is the color blending and when I edit my pictures I can make myself look like a magazine model hee hee. That's why I love Picasa.

Photoshop has to be the best for me so far. Even though, if your computer is not all too intelligent, your computer may crash from the overload. But believe me, Photoshop gotta be the best from all the other image editing programs. But, if you really prefer the light program, then try to go with gimp. I don't like it too much because as I said, I prefer Photoshop, but gimp is worth a try. It's like Photoshop, only lighter and I'm sure you will like it :')

ooops... I have a better system than yours... Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz & 2 gig RAM, but I wouldn't mind using other options than using a system hog Photoshop & alike... It is really good & could be best use on higher RAM/Cores PC...

There's still nothing that can beat Adobe Photoshop in terms of features, but using it needs some expertise. It's difficult to master Adobe Photoshop but of course, you can first learn the basics of it. But if you want an instant effect, such as instant border, contrast, color, size etc. then you can use some freeware softwares available in the Internet. One which I can recommend is Photoscape. Just search for it. Happy myLotting!

It depends on what you need it for. Other people have told you about photoshop - I'm using photoshop elements. It's a simplified version of photoshop. For me, I generally don't need the whole package. So Photoshop elements is definitely more than enough for me. I also use Photoscape. It's very simply and user-friendly. I like their "multiple images" templates. Picasa 3 is not bad either. I have all those three and consistently use them for different things depending on what I wanna do to a photograph. Cheers!

Thanks for your response. I have found that I need different editors depending upon my specific need at the moment. I frequently use a different editor just for resizing because I find that most of the better image editing software makes this job complicated and I will go to a simple application for this job then when I want to touch up pictures I will swap back to my main editor. I think I will try the photoshop and the faststone and go from there. I have a photo editor that came with corel here somewhere I am going to look for and check out.

I feel that except Photoshop, no other product offers so many features to edit images.

I use Adobe Photoshop in editing images because I think it is more powerful than other editing tools and simple to use. But preference for the editing tools will still be the decision of the user.
