Don't You Know Who I Am?, she said

Life can change in a flash. I just walked around the grounds to make sure that all is well before I left. A young lady came to me and said that it was obvious that there was not enough pool furniture. (New pool furniture is on order and will arrive next week) This person was not a daughter of an owner and so was a guest for the weekend. I smiled pleasantly and told her that the owners were aware of the status of the furniture. Then I wished her a good day and walked on. She then yelled at me, "Don't walk away when I am speaking to you. Don't you know who I am?" I love it when people make this particular remark, because I know how just to answer them. So I turned to her and said that I did not know who she was and if she didn't know who she was then I suggest that she received medical attention. As I walked away, one of the owners whispered that she was the daughter of member of our government. So what? I said. Does that give her the right to be arrogant and rude to people? Her behaviour did not impress me and she had no right to yell at me. What would you have done? Would you have accepted this rudeness form a spoilt brat who just happens to be the daughter of a top politician?

WOW!!! What a great answer Cynthi,. I love it, good for you. I can't stand people that feel their importance when they don't have any. I want to remember that in case i hopefully get a chance to use it. I'm sooooo proud of you. She had no right to talk to u like that or be complaining when she was just a guest. I BELIEVE U HAVE A STRESSFUL JOB. SORRY.

I am sure I am going to remember this for a while and it will keep me laughing. You know I am curious as a cat to find out just which of our politician's daughter that was right. Love the response. Imagine if it was her property or her family's. At least she got a response. I would not have acknowledged her at all. I am getting good at that when I come across rude people. It makes them mad when they are ignored as if they weren't even there. Hope you get back on track here soon.

THat is one of my pet peeves.....people that think so highly of themselves and treat others with disrespect....if she went back to her room and told on you I hope her parents are smart enough to give her the what for...she had no right to talk to you like she did....I would have probably made a comment back too!

I hope so too but her father is also arrogant. They do not own an aprtment and she had no right to interfere with the running of the complex. The owners and tenants are always informed. This has happened to me before and I always gove the same response. I would like to say that it was quick thinking on my part but it wasn't!

I love your response. lol I'm thinking: "Don't know. Don't care." or "No, but I can tell you weren't taught manners." or some such thing... Not that I would have said it...

As I had to admnit in other responses - it was not spontaneous. I don't do spontaneous very well. I have used it before as it is a put down but also politely acceptable. Facial expression when saying it is very important though!

I think you handled the situation perfectly. Oh so witty! That must've been hilarious. I wish I could've seen that happen. Your response was perfect, especially for the daughter of a prominent politician. (Wish I knew which one).

Actually I have used this remark before. Regretfully, I am not spontaneous so I have a few rehearsed things to say when in a situation like this. But I do it with panache!

oooohhh... i just love your attitude, serves her right. well for me if something like that will happen when i walk away she can yell till she gets red in her face and it wont bother me because i am hearing impaired... . seriously... if that kind of situation would happen when i was younger i would have folded in her presence and gotten scared. but not now that i got older. with all the troubles i've been through trying to please people, no way, i will never let anyone do that to me, like i care if she is the daughter of whoever most famous personality or official, that does not give her the right to yell at me.

I am polite to everyone. My kids laugh because i used to say 'excuse me' when I walked passed a dog. As a young person she had not right to speak to me in that manner, and as she wasn't an owner there was no reason to tell her that the pool furrniture will arrive next week. It is the first time she has visited here and she is a guest of an owner. rudeness is just that - rudeness

Good response. There is no reason for people to pull rank with someone who can't fix their problem. You'd already told her that the problem had been reported, so what was she thinking?? She should have asked to talk to your manager instead of yelling about who she was. Arrogant people have a hard time relating to the real world!

Just a very spoilt brat who thought that she was the cat's pyjamas! Arrogant and rude. It is her father who is an elected Government Minister - not her.

Honey, you need a raise! That girl is lucky I wasn't there. I'd have picked her up and thrown her into the pool! I just cannot abide people like that. I realize you have no choice because you are an employee, but it certainly makes it difficult to do your job. I admire how you handled the situation.

i think that how you handled this was perfectly awesome! Some of these kids of elite parents seem to think they can do anything and are above anyone. It doesn't matter who they are....No one deserves to be treated an worse or any better than anyone else. We are all equal.

LOVE! I would have done the same thing. I am rude sometimes and don't mean to be but this one is where I would have torn into her. This is hilarious! I look at it this way. We are all human and we all think we need respect. LOL being humorous of course. I am going to remember that the next time one of my relatives say it. My dad has that habit and I just tell him, yeah, you're my dad and there is nothing anyone can do about it--oops--sorry. This was great!

Well to be honest I think that no matter their status in the world, whether it be a daughter of a rich actor, rock star, or politician, no one should be rude, and no one deserves to receive such rudeness and have to put with it. What you did was right, repercussion aside, if there indeed are any, you did the right thing. Maybe that's all this girl needs, someone to put her in her place. The member of your government may not always be in control and may step down or be impeached, and then when that happens she wouldn't have the parent's influence to get her out of trouble, if she ever does get into any.

Hey cyn, I loved your response. I would not giver her or anyone else that believes they are above everyone else because of a Political positon either held by her or her Parent. All the more reason for her to behave accordingly, since her Father was elected by you and works for you. And by the way is paid by you. The same goes for anyone in show biz. Without us there would be no show biz. I don't bow down to anyone. Especially to anyone that is rude and obnoxious. Good work. Hugsssssssss leenie

Knowing me, I probably would have said, "I'm sorry, but I don't know who you are." Or, I might have said, "No, I sure don't. I'm sorry". Or, I might have just stood there and stared at her before saying anything. You're absolutely right. She had no right to yell at you that way. Just because she's the daughter of a politician doesn't mean that she has to be so arrogant. No, I wouldn't have accepted her rudeness. Kathy.

Haha. Well you put her in her place my friend. I know the types you speak about. They are here in Trinidad too. I wonder if it is because they are on a small island, they think that they are larger than life? Wonder what happens when they go out into the wider world? Would be interesting to see. I would not have accepted it either. It's good that you stood up for yourself.

I wouldn't care if she was the daughter of the president. She has no right to speak to anyone that way. I'm in my early 20's and I know better than to talk to anyone that way. Most parents don't teach kids manners and especially if the parents are in the public eye that makes the child even more spoiled and they can literally get away with anything that they want, which I think is completely wrong.

LOL Don't you know who I am? No, and based on this sample of your personality, nor do I wish to extend the present acquaintance. No, but if you expect that I do, you'd be someone who should know better how to behave in public. No, but maybe if you hum a few bars..... No, but if you tell me, I'll try not to smirk. No, but the furniture won't get here any faster for the Queen of England. No, but I know who I am, and I don't accept rudeness from ANYONE. No, but unless you are God, the furniture won't get here any faster.

I think you reacted like any person would have. Big deal, so she is a daughter of a top politician, what is that supposed to do with the fact that she doesn't respect other people? Her raising? She's a human being just like you and should have been nice to you as you were to her. I believe who ever anybody is, treat others the way you want to be treated. It doesn't matter to me if you are rich, poor, or famous, if you are nice to me, I'll be nice to you.
