Only stupid losers walk...??!!!!?!?!

I woke this morning to beautiful weather outside and decided to start my day with a nice walk. So off I went. I was happily walking along when I came to an uncontrolled cross walk. What do I do? I wait for the traffic to stop so I can cross the road. Alas! Traffic did indeed stop for me and I started to cross the road. Seems simple right? Just as I got to the middle of the road an impatient driver swerved around one of the cars that had stopped for me and came with in a foot of bowling me over. He was going about 60km. So, what does Mr. Happy Driver do? He pulls over and starts to tear strip after strip off me! He's shouting at me "what the hell were your thinking? You dumb b**ch! Only stupid losers walk, you could have dented my car!" Ummm. Wow. I wasn't sure what to do, say, or think. But as I'm watching Mr. Happy Driver flip the lid I notice that his hair is sticking out in all directions, his face is beet red, and he's flapping his arms around while he yells, looked like he was doing an interpretive bird dance. It was so absurd, it struck me as very funny and I couldn't help myself, I started to laugh. Mr. Happy Driver didn't like that at all. He came at me. Now here's the kicker. Two steps into his charge he tripped over absolutely nothing, fell face first on the pavement, and broke his nose. He called the cops on me and tried to charge me with assault! A few other 'stupid losers' out walking saw it all and spoke up for me, Mr. Happy Driver got a ticket for driving with undue care and attention, and, AND, I got lectured by the cops for being irresponsible and enciting Mr. Happy Driver to lose his temper!!! Yeesh.

Never mind his car, that guy could have killed you! It was only a couple of weeks ago when I witnessed some road rage myself. This was between two drivers that nearly colided at a juction. They didn't actually touch or swearve but the guy got so angry that he got out of his car and started swearing at the women in the other car. She was pregnant and had kids in the back of the car. She got out and started shouting back at him. He then started to push her. As you can imagine that caused quite a stir with the other drivers that were present. So it ended up with a huge group of drivers just shouting and abusing each other! It nearly got to the stage where a riot broke out, but it just happened that an old wartime plame was doing a fly over at that exact time and it flied so low it actually seemed to dissapate the argument, and all of a sudden drivers just got back in their cars and seem to drive on their way. It just seemed so surreal.

Wow, that would have been crazy to see. There were some other pedestrians out and the 2 drivers that did stop for me got out of their cars but I think when they saw me start to laugh it diffused tensions a bit. If the guy hadn't tripped though (shudders at the thought) there may just have been a brawl in the street.

I walk quite often and I never thought of myself as a loser! Talk about a serious case of road rage! I gotta be honest if I had seen what you did I probably would have laughed too! Just the image I got reading it was enough to make me laugh! But seriously, he said you almost dented his car? I would have said dude denting your car is the last of my worries YOU almost broke my skull! Your freaking car can be repaired my head may not be so lucky! This guy was probably late for something and wasn't at all concerned about anyone else! And he will probably have a heart attack! You can't have that much rage and not pay some kind of consiquence!

It was pretty funny. I kinda wish I had a video camera. The guy gave Monty Python a run for the money. As for the whole denting the car comment I was far to stunned to reply. My brain wasn't quite able to process where he was coming from on that.

It's not as though you were Jaywalking or something if you were using a crosswalk..I can't figure why the cops gave you the ticking off for using a legitimate crosswalk when this Git decides his getting someplace is so important he's going to pull around other cars and verbally assault you "for holding him up"-You pay your taxes for road upkeep too,and You're probably a driver too when you're not walking! Here in the UK,traffic is supposed to give way to crossing pedestrians on what we call Zebra crossings (for the distinguishing black and white stripes lined across the road to identify the crosswalk!),but I don't live near any uncontrolled ones,so haven't been in a position to check how co-operative drivers are with that in a long time..! Even using controlled crossings have their risks-there have been incidents of pedestrians injured using crossings, especially when the controlling lights are about to change but the pedestrian still has right of way..that Guy needs Anger Management BAD!

I need to use a zebra crossing to cross the roads to get to the shops. People tend to stop when I have my buggy but keep going when I just have me and my bump. I find that very inconsiderate. Its nice that they stop for the buggy though.

Yup, here pedestrian traffic is supposed to get the right of way at an uncontrolled intersection. Seeing as other cars had already stopped for me I was definitely the right one. I remember being in London trying to cross the roads at pedestrian crossings and it was like playing chicken with the cabbies! The road would be completely empty of cars and the minute I put my foot down a cabbie would come zooming at me honking the horn. I absolutely loved the UK though, great place, great people!

The thing I dislike about the design of buggies and prams is that the baby inside is going first into possible harm's way, being first onto the road before the person pushing it..

Seems he got what he deserved by tripping, however you did nothing wrong and the cops were in the wrong by lecturing you. Goodness if more of us would walk in America maybe the obesity rate would lower. And talk about an angry driver, we have a lot of road rage here in the states. It is scary at times to be on the road with some of the idiots out there.

Oh man! What a story!! Thanks for the reality check.. we have to remember that there are some very strange, dangerous people who still qualify for a driver's permit! sheesh!!! I am glad he tripped before he got to you! You know though, you gotta pity the guy 'cause he must have some really crappy things going on in his life to feel he could act this way. That's just amazing! Thanks for sharing your story today.. and hey, keep walking!! He proved his own statement to be stupid!

Can't say that pity was the first thing to cross my mind... lol. You're right though, he definately prooved his own stupidity. One day if he isn't careful though it won't be a 5'4" woman he's yelling at and he'll get a nasty surprise i think.

Unfortunately, as someone who doesn't drive at all (by choice), I've run into things like this all too often. I've almost been killed by people taking a sudden turn without using their signals. It does get worse: I also bike a lot and I've found that for some unknown reason people who're driving think of someone on a bike as even less than a pedestrian...even though we're going faster and it takes a bit more notice to come to a stop without pitching! I was actually hit by a van driven by a woman texting on a cell phone, she decided she didn't want to wait the half second it'd take me to cross the road and went for a turn (without signaling at all). Fortunately I was uninjured, but she sped off like nothing had happened. So, what, if you aren't driving a care you don't deserve to live? Is that what we've come to?

Holy crap! I'm glad to hear you weren't hurt! That lady driving the van is quite a tool though. That is the worst. To show absolutely no concern! I hope you left a dent!

Sadly I didn't. I wasn't hurt at all, I bounced right off and a bunch of people who'd seen what happened started blaring their horns. I've also had people actually SPEED UP to make a turn when I'm crossing a road, which I don't understand at all. These same people will stop and give me right of way when I'm walking, when it takes a good 15-20 seconds for me to cross, and yet speed up and try to beat me to the turn when it takes me only 1-2 seconds to cross. It's so frustrating!

Geez sounds like he was the loser, he should have been arrested for road rage and harassment. In most places I go pedestrian's have the right away period. I would have laughed too sounds like he was a nut case. I cannot believe the cops lectured you this guy was way out of line and out of control. Good thing it was not me he came after I would have smacked him good in self defense. How dumb for him to call the cops on you. Because the rest of traffic stopped he was legally supposed to stop as well not try and run you over. He had no right to swerve around from behind another car. What an idiot. Glad your okay and did not get hit or beat up.

Hello, first, I want to lolz... hahaha.. at Diver. how stupid he is! now he got a ticket cuz of not excusing someone else. Dont you worry, he got a big bill to pay now and dont worry or take the police words... he just want to make sure you will watch out for this kind of driver. He is lucky enough to meet you, if he meets me... I will piss him out for sure. He has no right to call me b**ch. He is stupid enough to hit himself and broke his own nose... lolz... I can't stop laughing at him now. Drivers now never watch out for people on the street, so you have to watch out cuz some will hit you, and it is will be a big mistake.

Gosh FFFrocks, what ignorance from Mr Happy Driver, I'm so glad he got fined and not you, I loathe people who start shouting in public places, if the guys here had witnessed it they would have probably chucked him into the sea for insulting a woman. Over here I must say walking for pleasure has not really caught on and the idea of a walk to a Greek person is to drive as close as they can to the nearest cafenion or taverna even if they only live a couple of doors away, I kid you not. 'But if they have to walk somewhere then naturally they will walk in the middle of the road, en masse of course, and hold up all the traffic, or stop to talk to the person driving the car. It's just accepted as normal.

I had a good laugh with your post. I´m one of the losers, but in my country it´s easier: there are much more sidewalks. But you shouild take your story to a newspaper: maybe they´ll give you a lot more than a few cents for it. It is very well written. Although English is not my native language, I´m a writer. And I can recognise talent when I see it. Thanks for a lovely posting

people seem to take out there own mistakes on other people....it isnt your fault, the other traffic wanted you to proceed....chances are that the guy driving was drinking if he responded in such a manner....why people are like this i have no idea....and no, walkin isnt just for losers...its for everyone...i bleave that no matter what type of person you are you should walk....the fact that he sed its for losers makes me think that hes prolly uncomfortable about his weight or something....or jus doesnt walk because hes to drunk all the time...either way your alot nicer than me...i would have flipped out on him.,..he had no right toi do that to you...next time i guess you should wait for the cross walk....even though everyone else stopped

I love to walk. I frequently walk to the store, or the park, or just for the execise. I know how crazy some of these people can be. I also know, as a driver, how stupid some walkers can be. In fact, just the other day, a lady stepped right out in front of my moving car, and not in a crosswalked area! I was so scared that I was going to hit her, luckily I have good breaks. I am always scared of stuped pedestrians, who give us smart walkers a bad name. In your case, that man was not nice, and you shouldn't have gotten lectured, so I'm glad he broke his nose.

Lol @ the driver. I have noticed such people who drive without any regards for people who are waling. It was not like you were in the middle of road when the traffic was flowing. But I have noticed most people just like to walk around in the middle of the road without any consideration for the motorists. Lucky you just got off with a warning. He must have been really p1ssed when he got the ticket. Here in India, people don't wait for the signal t turn to red before they step in the middle of the road. They just walk on expecting the motorists to stop and the people around sympathize with them if anything happens. sheesh. bourne

That does sound funny. I am glad you had honest witnesses to insure you didn't get falsely accused and charged. What a jerk and dumb idiot. Some people cant respect others who try to stay fit and healthy. Also I enjoy a good walk every now and then. Only once did a truck swing real close to me for no reason and I thought she was going to hit me. I didn't pay her no mind though but it did make me more aware of how people are around here.

This is the first time that I have heard that people were stupid losers if they walk. I always thought that it suppose to be the best thing that you can do for your health. This goes to show how rude and hateful that some people are starting to become. The only time that it bothers me when someone is crossing the street is when they are walking as slow as they can,the light will be changed and they still haven't crossed to the other side. Or when someone is walking in the middle of the road and wont get out of the road when they see a car coming. Like their daring you to hit them.
