What are you saving up money for?

July 9, 2009 12:54am CST
After you have bought what you need such as food and clothes, you save up the rest for later for something. So what is that something? Are you saving your money for a vacation, retirement, car, house, college, children, grandchildren, emergency, charity or what?

I got the habit of saving up since young. I am not sure what am i saving for actually LOL. Maybe just in case i need the money one day i can just take them out. I think it is a good habit to save money everyday, maybe just 1$ per day can give you 360$ each year. so why not? :D

Yeah, when I was little I used to collect coins, like I would put pennies in my piggy bank and I would use it to buy candy once I have earned enough. lol Piggy banks were pretty popular back in the days.

I am saving money in order to go on a holiday with my family- we have possibility to go, but maybe for 1 week. Now thanks to the money I earned last year we will be there over 1 month, I hope, if everything is alright. After that I will save some money for a laptop for the son- he wants a laptop since 2 months and I can't refuse him.

Right now I am saving money to buy a house. We do not have our own house yet and we are planning to buy it next year. That's why I am now more serious in making money to add more amount in my saving.

I am trying to save for a vacation. I wanted to bring the kids to the new Harry Potter theme park in Florida. I'm sure it's going to be very expensive as Disneyworld is also in the area. I'm also sure that it won't happen this year, but there's a big chance that we could go next year. So I save, and I keep my fingers crossed.

I am saving for a wedding, first of all. After that, I will be saving for a down payment for a house (I already started on that, so I have some money saved, but now the wedding is my main focus, and only that the other saving's plan).

As of right now a little bit of everything. But I need to pay down debt to do more and that is very difficult right now for us to do. When we did have 2 full time incomes I liked to save for the kids for them to either go to college or buy their first home. But I don't have any spare money now to put much beyond my pocket change in their accounts. And I cashed out my 401k when I lot my job to pay bills, wich in hindsight was foolish but also saved us from alot of other things.

We were saving any money we got for the most part on our wedding. Now that my husband and I are married, we are starting to save for a car and a house. After that we'll save for our future children, and I guess once we get used to that we may save for other things. Now we are also saving for a "want" kind of shopping spree, etc.

In May this year my husband and I spent most of our savings on our wedding party and our honeymoon, so we don't have a lot of money at the moment, but we have started saving up money again. Every month when we have paid the rent, the bills etc we save up the rest of the money. We haven't decided how we are going to spend our savings next time, because there are two things which we are very interested in. We want to buy a house one day, and we want to travel around in Europe and in Asia.

I'm trying to pay off my credit card debt. So I guess it's not much savings since it's all going to credit card companies.I just really need to pay them off. I hate this "debt cloud" hanging over me. Other than that, I'm not planning for big purchases. But I guess that would be a good thing.
