No, I do not think that a couple has to be married for infidelity to be called an adultery. In this day and age when more couples just live together and don't always marry I think it is adultery in any committed relationship. If a woman choses to forgive a man who has committed this sort of thing it is either because she not have very much self esteem and feels she may not find another man or she is demented enough to think it will never happen again. I don't believe that.

thank you so much for that frank reply. much as it hurts to hear (demented) it is in a way (or really) true
. am from an asian country so the culture is quite conservative but legally, yes, a woman can have the grounds even for a marriage's annulment because of this.

I do believe that adultery happens when the foundation of the marriage is not that strong from the very beginning. As to how rampant it is I really do not know but I have seen many who are into this and I also have seen those that remain faithful to their partners.

Not only men but both sexes as prone to this. I've seen girls who are also comitting such act. It's just that it's not prominent because of double standard thing. Some people decide to stay on their partners even if they have committed an offense because of their level of communication, some decided not to stay because they can't tolerate the emotional stress it brought to them. Of course couples should be married to be called adultery if not it's only cheating on one's partner.
