My grandparents love to watch old movies such as James Bond movies and other classical movies. They like the movies like the Wizard of Oz, Casablanca and other movies where the likes of Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Kirk Douglas are the main leading actresses and actors. But, young people are also interested to watch old movies as they are able to know the theme, history, fashion of the past. Do you also like to watch old movies and what your reasons in watching it?

I think the reason people love to watch "old" time movies as they are considered classics, and not to mention some of the greatest actors/actresses were in those movies..Bette Davis, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Judy Garland and on and on--many of the newer actors can't get near their greatness, also many of the newer actors and movies relied so heavily on special effects, while the older movies didn't--and yes, I LOVE watching old movies

Definitely! old movies are amazing. They are unforgettable and older people who are always bragging about old movies as decent, rich in good values and finally the use of languages are not foul and the acting does not depend on the pretty face or the handsome actors charisma but in their superb acting. Those stars you mention are a are the iconic legend which even the stars of the new movies greatly imitates but failed to surpass their glorious careers. They are the first to bring glory to show business and to show respect to them, it is only right that their old movies is preserve in the government or in a private institution for film archives. So that even the next generation would able to watch and appreciate the beauty of old movies.

Old movies really exhibit lot of valuable lesson which a audience can get an idea which he may find useful and also applicable with his daily life. The stories does not focus on the main actresses and actors but to the great meaning that the moviegoers will get upon watching it. They will imitate the lead character and inspire to motivate them to work toward their dream. Some aspire to become great artist and the classical stars serve as their inspiration.

I love old movies and I think that the reason is that they do a lot on suggestion, such as a woman going in a room with a man. Normally in modern movies, she would be taking off her clothes to slow music then you would see her naked back, and the sheet over their bodies, but in the old black and white you would see them just entering the room. Now we all knew that they were having an affair, and they were not married, because they would look furtive, meet in a darkened cafe, etc. Another thing was even the bad ones in the movies are quite articulate. They did not rely on the f word, and if they were evil, they would say things like 'I love how her eyes widened when I cut up her dog. I love to hear things scream, pretty things, don't you?" so you got the idea that the man was a mad dog killer. There are few films nowadays that are like that. They use a lot of light and shadows - the knife flashing down in Psycho, for instance. The terrified girls face, the shadow of the killer, that you know that someone is coming to harm, unlike the new movies where they show the actual clashing and blood. Also they use innuendos and talk to suggest what the character is really like. Mind you I wish some of them were in color. Oh and James Bond is not that old.

Well to your grandparents these movies probably bring back good memories for them and they represent movies they watched when they were younger. It is like someone my age watch Pretty in Pink. To my kids that is an old movie, to me it is a movie that reminds me of my youth. I don't watch a lot of really old movies but every once in a while I will flip around and one will catch my eye and I will end up watching it. It doesn't happen very often, but I usually end up watching the movie and enjoying it. Old movies are not my preferance but there are some that are quite good.

Yeah, that is true even the latest new movies will be a thing of the past in the future and will also call old movies. It really depend on the preferences of the people to watch old and new movies as they could really identify their times and ages when it is made. It is a reminder of their youth and the times when it is the blockbuster and popular movies during their times.

Hi neelancoscet, I much prefer the old movies to the modern ones, I even love the old black and white ones. Some of the actors in those days were so good, I'd always watch a Cary Grant fim, Jack Lemmon, Shirly Maclaine,Vivien Leigh. Oops I'm going way back further than you. I wouldn't consider a Sean Connery film to be old. These kinds of films were always on the TV when I was growing up and I still love them today.

They were all fantastic actors and actresses. Basically, I also loved to watch them but I am still young or not yet born when they are still showing. James bond movies is the old movies to my point of view that i consider as of my times. But, I also watch the black and white movies of Elvis priestly the tender love and of Elizabeth Taylor lovers in paris. they are all classic movies and even the young at heart who are curious to know the past should watch old movies to know the period of history during those times. this enables the youth to appreciate the values of watching old movies.

Hi neelancoscet, a lot of my favourites were way before my time but I love Greta Garbo movies which are really old. I always prefer the original movie to a remake, except for Sparticus.

I love the old Bond Movies all the way up until Pierce Brosnan. For some reason the allure of the story engulfs me totally and I just get so much more out of it. I also love the fact that there is no crazy special effects to jumble the story up and take away from it because they need to do a 20 min car chase seen in which everything explodes in the city . There just is so much more to love about the older movies they have soul and style the way they are filmed and acted. Don't get me wrong I like new movies too but they seem to get redundant and the story lines are not as good but there are some great new movies you just need to sift through the crap first. I watch the old bond movies 1 by 1 over and over usually put one on everynight before I go to sleep but I am no expert on films I am always looking for good recommendations so if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks

Of course all James Bond movies are all excellent and uniquely created to appeal to captivates the mind of the mass audiences. The stories behind the creator of Agent 007 based it on the adventures of the agent battling the different criminals schemes and ended as the heroes with backup of a good music, villain and a list of beautiful girls he met along his mission added an interest to the character of the main stars. I too watch James Bond movies and some of his first movies is action filled adventure and unmatched even by newer filmmakers and script writer. Very elegantly, captivating. Then, that is the elements which are lacking in new movies and many directors. film making and scriptwriters collaborates to make the movies exciting when they added advanced technology and more retouches. Hopefully, new movies will be a thing of the latest centuries.

I do watch old movies. Some old movies I watch are Filipino movies. My reason is thsi, I am curious of what a place looks like before. Like the movie from Sampaguita Pictures, these are the movies in the late 1940's, 1950's to 1960's. I am curious what do Philippine places looks like before. I do also curious of what values they have before and I laugh when I observed Filipinos before are very conservative. I also see the development of our culture. The development from agriculture ear to information age. They have a wide differences if you compare. Aside from Filipino Films I do wathced old movies on TNT and MGM channel on cable. I lvoe Casa Blance and Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love romantic lines, I pick some romantic lines from old movies. i also simple to know the difference of old values to new ones.

Old movies are like diaries you have to open it to see what is inside or the history of the past is shown and describe lives of the people. It get better as it becomes old like a rare jewels the story is great and even new movies cannot match it deep script writing are emotional and evokes audience mesmerizing in every lines or words the old stars spoken is unforgettable.

They are all great actors and actresses and all of them leave their own legacy in hollywood show business. They are all handsome and beautiful. They are the classical elegance and the theme of the movie is calm and not full of noise compare to new movies. The setting is really the real background and not a fake one such as what is being practice by new film makers somes scenes are computer generated.

I love to watch old classics too! Usually, they are great movies and had truly wonderful actors. I also think many people watch for nostalgic reasons as its takes them back to a time where they have fond memories. Many of these movies have great plots too, which makes them a lot better than many of the new ones out today.

Many old folks like them and they think when they try to watch the new movies for them it is full of noise. i think the reasons for this is the generation gap. The older people patronize it as the actors and actresses during those time are the same age with them and every time they watch old movies it bring them to the time when they are still young. The old movies remind them of the fashion, the theme and music of their time. But, the likeness of old movies is not limited to the older generation even younger generation are very curious to watch movies it takes them to understand the history of the past.

I myself download movies torrents of latest movies i fail to watch in theater. I also watch old movies to enable me to know the great actors and actresses during those golden years. Old movies bring back memories of the good old days and it is fun to watch the different time line. It serves as a witness of the glorious days of cinemas where the nature of the film making is not yet advanced compare to the new generation.

I think it's because it matches with their age and their era as well. LOL But seriously, old movies are better than new ones. The news just looks better because it's more modern and more digital but if you'll really learn the storyline, it's better than any other new stories.

I think too that old have their own unique story and the remaking of old movies into the new movies version still cannot imitate the original story and acting of the stars during those past era are remarkable and unmatched. Most of new movies today uses computer generated background and even images. They can fake a scene not like in the old movies were their are no high technology props and the production during those old times merely start from a scratch. Without modern movie equipment and all the acting are all superb and unforgettable.

Old movies really serve as a diary of the glorious past. Those are the times when our grandparents and our parents watch movies which they truly enjoy during their younger days and still brag about the good quality of the movies is wholesome, and unlike now days that movies are made by greedy film maker and producer to make money. but, the real values of the movies is sacrifices.

Yeah, they were really leave a good impression to any viewers. This is only prove that old movies leave a legacy. Even though, the stars are all retired and some are gone, but their prowess acting still live unmatchable that even new movies have a hard time surpassing their popularity. Even the young generation enjoy watching it and because of the good story behind those films which would inspire anyone who watch it.

When people grow old, they tend to miss the past things. And the old movies can recall their memories. For example, I still miss my childhood cartoons and I am not interested in today's cartoons. I don't think they can be better than the old ones. I love China

Even today movies will become old movies and the only things to do to remaining enjoying them is to reserve them in the achives for movies. So that even our future grandchildren can appreciate its values and also way for them to know the history of the past. It is reminiscing the past we could fully appreciate where we use to be young and reminding us of what style or the fashion during those good oldie movies.

Everyone have their own choices of greatest and favorite movies listing. If you find it interesting you are never feel contented to watch it once, sometimes more than ten times and yet you still like it and never got bored. It only means that the movies have something in its contents that is watchable and invite inspiration to our daily life. Movies, as you mention is part of childhood and this feeling is retain till we get older. It is a reminder of our youth and the way we relax by watching beautiful movies.

well surely old movies are better than new. because new lost their value in the try to copy old. sort of this way. i think
• Philippines

Some new movies are really a copy cat from original movies or sort of revival. But, some movies reviews and critics observe that the essence and the acting is not comparable or cannot exceed the expectation of movie goers that film producer make a come back copy of old movies to thrill the viewers. But, the taste is lost as the acting is not really excellent and lack emotion. So far the differences really is from the kind of technology now days that film maker in the old movies are totally lacking of access.

My mom loves to watch old scary movies, and i hate it. I dont think those movies are scary at all. I think it has to do with the time period you grew up in. When my mom was a kid, thats the only kind of movies they made, and when they were kids that was scary. Now a days they just boost everything up with computers to make monsters and whatnot, but older movies a lot of times had monsters that could have been real, like the guy in that movie halloween. That could really happen. Or the original the exorcist. That movie did scare me a little, not because of the little girl, but because it could really happen.

You could best to recall it when you need to know the happenings or the theme, fashion and the actiong stars of great movies which you only heard from older people. By merely watching old movies you learn to know its values and its importance of the mass media as very effective form of communication and it could be express in movies.
