I told a trusted friend something very personal and private and now it's no longer private. Whose at fault? Me for confiding( because had I not told them ,this wouldn't have happened ) or them for telling?

There's an expression, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". It's not your fault for confiding in a friend, but now that you know you can't trust him/her, you know not to tell that person things that you want kept private.

Yes, I couldn't have said this better myself. I was going to write that same expression when I realized that you had already written it. Sometimes you have to go through something to realize what type of "friend" that person may or may not be to you. It'll be better to find out sooner than later. Now you know what type of person you are dealing with. It sucks but that is just how some people are.

I dont think is your fault. I mean you trusted your friend, no matter what, he/she should not have broken that trust!

Friends are terribly unreliable. I know this for a fact because I had a friend who became superior when I lost my job. At first he was supportive but later, he began to give me advice as though he knew better than me about life.

you know, it's them for telling. friends who somewhat betray your trust are friends who are not worth for you. it's supposed to be a personal and private matter, so it has to be left that way.
