House of Horror...held captive for 24 years

As I was reading this story, I started wondering how this man had got away with keeping his daughter in the basement for 24 years and not get caught, or attacked by his daughter trying to escape. Giving birth to her fathers children would have been horrific. I can't even imagine, she's the same age as me and missing 24 years of your life, how can she ever recover? (plus the life she had before, everything she missed in life because of this man.)
What would have happened to her if he would have died or became ill and unable to feed them?
How could the mother not notice him missing when he made his visits to the basement and how was it that he could take all the extra food downstairs with no one noticing?
Her mother didn't notice anything strange going on?
How did she give birth to all these children alone?
There's alot here in this story I just don't get......

How is it that someone finds their own child, even as an adult, sexually attractive?
What do you think will happen to this man for what he's done?
I wonder if this mother will want to keep her children?
This is just weird and the grandfather/father is a sick man.

I don't know, if this man was able to do this to his child and children/grandchildren, he has to be very controlling. The wife may have been listening to and doing everything he told her to do, they say in the story, the wife & children living upstairs were 'ordered' to stay out of the basement and when the officials showed up searching for the room, they even had a hard time finding it and it was soundproofed.
The mother apparently has alot of mental issues, though.....the daughter had been repeatedly raped by the father from the time she was 11 years old and for the mother to let that happen without noticing something wrong, or ignoring that it was happening....ohhh...I just don't understand...at all!

I've been following this story on news websites, on the BBC, here on myLot, on any other websites I can find it. What a sad and sick story. Some people (the father) are sick, sick, sick, and some people (the mother) are amazingly clueless. I don't understand how this could have gone unnoticed either!!!

I think there's a lot we'll never know about that story. I do think the man's wife had to know something. I can't decide if he's incredibly sick or just plain evil, or even both. I think the same of his wife. They should both be put away in some sort of insane asylum--geez, does anyone even use that term anymore? I don't think either of them have any hope of a cure but they need to be locked away. Their daughter will need years of therapy and so will her children.
I can't think of too many more horrific crimes. It's just monstrous.
