Should we always Debate on RELIGION??

It's just question. but this didn't pop on my head. few minutes ago i saw a discussion forum on friendster from Philippine group that's asking the same question.
then the moderator that topic stated that religion should not be debated and there's no motion of it because it might personally hurt other people. the person said we should have peace and prosperity and respect each other(by Jordache).
Some say that there's no ending to that because every person has it's own view. then another user disagrees that even disciples of christ had their own debates with other religions.he said debate was not meant to hurt people because it opens doors for mutual understanding of knowledge. some reiterate as simply information trading with out getting too personal.
Then another person said he's open minded to religious practice except stoning and beheading as part of practice.
But there was this particular guy who went out debating about religion and stated that it's just nothing more than an illusional feeling of comfort and be controlled. he said he's faith by Science and Logic.
They were other heated debates (can't translate them all because it was all spoken in Filipino) but it was revealed that the this atheist was once an active christian.
(He)Attending Mass every Sunday, joining choir, and part of the faith.then he felt good and better when he left Christianity. the debate still didn't find any conclusion
But i just told him since he kept convincing the other guy "Keep it to yourself" If you made that choice, deal with it. don't confuse others with your choice.
Well, hehehe....i don't think there's any ending to this.
So, what are your views..don't bother putting verses, just your "Words"

If you had what you believed was the truth about God and it could mean the difference in a person being saved or lost, wouldn't you want to share that truth with others? You're not going to save everyone, but you still have a duty to share the truth.

What would happen to the world if everyone refused to share with others because of a fear of offending? If a person isn't interested in your message, all they have to do is say so. As long as you share your beliefs without trying to force them on anyone then, in my opinion, there's no reason to be offended.

But the things is that if the person denies of offended by that message of truth and probably close minded for some reason, then what's the point of trying to save them.
i believe that you're right, my concern is that the person might get offended or hurt if i don't give the message, right

that's one nice answer. it should be the deeds that matter not the fact that we are in certain religion. good deeds and human relationship are the most important thing that people with different religions should work on.

i agree with you. what's the point of bragging your religion or defending it if your not doing good deed to other people. which is suppose to be the main goal of each human on this planet.

Religion is never a good subject, even in real life.I personally don't believe in talking about these things even in a debate. Everyone has a opinion , to them it is as true as the the country they live in. No one will ever agree on religion its to darn diverse ,anything that man has written has controsversy, unless there are hard facts to back it up the bible has none. Someone telling me this is the way it is does not work.
Another thing ,I remember as a child some religious folks came to my door ,to tell me there would be a flood in 7 days .If I did not join with them ,I would be washed off of the face of the earth
.Now how can you have faith with crazy notions such as that especially to a child. Believe in what you please but don't push it on me is what ,I politly tell people who start the chrisian rattling.

that's one reason i don't let them in my house because of those silly questions. there was this group of people that went to the gate and asked "do you doubt Jesus Christ in these times of crisis" I said to them i never doubt for a second. they just gave out their pamphlet but later i found out they were jehovas witness

Wow! that is so direct, i was a bit thinking the same. that's right we keep it to ourselves and not to bother with some one Else's beliefs.

Hello Letran,
It's not bad discussing religion, only that heated arguments will surely arise at the end,and...of course no one will be declared right or wrong.
In my opinion, there is always a proper place and time for everything,RELIGION is one of the most delicate topics,so,when discussing such issue, open mind is badly needed for every participants. But since this is an open forum we can never have any control who will gonna join. And i guess this is a friendly/social site,to make friends and not for debate and make enemies.
Have a good day friend

thank you jaiho,
that's what am worried about regarding heat discussion. being open-minded is somthing that the people should consider having while having a debate, it's not easy to defend ideas in that religion. but believed me too that there's no conclusion in the debate.

Religion is a belief but no matter how you debate it so many times. just remind yourselfs that we are simply trading information and acquiring knowledge from each other. it's alot better than keeping it to yourself routine.

Since everyone has a different view, it provides man with a larger picture than he could see without so many views. With this greater view comes the responsibility to show others what they can not see. Sure, truth does hurt those who do not want it but truth will find a way to bubble up to the top. We are all meant to interact, to teach, to learn and grow. There might be a few growing pains but that is part of life.

It depends on the information given by the debater, some might be loud mouth and said some thing bad about the other. then, that starts a heated discussion. some don't want to believe in it and starting to become personal.

It is not healthy to discuss religion as there is very limited way, if there is at all, to settle a dispute with this topic. Each believer will have his own argument and it is almost always impossible to to come to an agreement when debating over this matter. Back in college I had a very close friend who was a Mormon and I am a Catholic, but in all those 4 years that we've been together we never discussed religion. We've discussed politics several times but religion as a topic is a no-no. Maybe it's just too sacred for us to talk about it, and with no apparent end-result in view, why go there in the first place?

Wow! well at least you are both Christians with some various differences in tradition. there's no end for argument is you two start talking about it. i can't religion can also be so much trouble if were not careful of what we say about theirs.

Hello there LetranKnight!Ü
Religion in my opinion is a very sensitive case for each and everyone of us. Our beliefs are expected to be respected by everyone.
Belief which means a psychological state in which an individual holds a proposition or premise to be true (thanks to Wikipedia). As a person, we have this innate characteristic within us to fight with what we believe and to prove to someone that it is true. Having conversations with religion is indeed a never ending debate. I have visited a mental institution where they prohibited discussing religion, politics and love. Because it is a very vast topic that affects our being. We just have to accept the fact that each and everyone of us has their own BELIEF that must BE RESPECTED. If this thing is done, i am sure that we can enjoy what we believe in and not hurt anyone's feelings.

Well, we have different beliefs in every religion. and if these beliefs are even debated and force on side to make him/her believed the other then there will be some heated reactions from both sides. some can be sensitive that they might argue beyond argumentative facts
