I had a biker friend in Tennessee that put on his site the announcement that a man in his area had recently died. He was a part of the history of this biker's area in Tennessee. I started wondering about the lives of bootleggers and the romance of it all. I have included a link to the story about him. I wondered if any of you had any stories to tell. Any insights into their lives? Or even your opinions. Lets not get tacky on this one. No negative input just the romance of it, okay? http://www.wyff4.com/video/4716400/index.html

CE- My father's side of the family immigrated to Kentucky and lived there for ages before moving up to Indiana. Recently on the History channel they did a special on the Hillibillies and how they came to get their name. It was hosted by Billy Ray Cyrus. I was surprised to learn how the term "red neck" came to be, and just how important they were to the formations of Unions in that area where coal mining was concerned. I have nothing negative to say about any of it to be honest because they're my kin folk and I'm not ashamed to say where my family came from. Yes, we can trace our roots back, but my kin folk married into the Cherokee tribe (part of them) and some married into the McGregor clan (early on in the formation of this country), so I'm proud that I'm from a long line of hard earth workers. I was one of the first grandkids to go through college on my dad's side and I recall how I got phone calls from that side saying how proud they were. And I'm very proud of them. Namaste-Anora

Yes, I have seen that show several times. I just thought Popcorn was an interesting character and I wondered what others on here would think of this character. I wish I could trace my roots back. I think I have told you I am part cherokee as well. I think we should all be proud of our backgrounds and where we come from. Our grands deserve it.

THis is in the Blueridge mountains so ya cant really be sure if in TEnn or the no.carolina lol Now he looked like he had a very good still just wonder how he got by with it so many years without the revenuers getting him and him paying be fines or maybe he paid the tax to the government on it to stay in business. Yup my Father in Law made moonshine! and damn it was so good smooth as water going down but what A heck of a kick it had lol I also made moonshine runs to his custoners at 2 or 3 in the morning. Nothing like the movie Thunder Road but some of the stills got turned in and we was worned so left them. I watched the TBI and Sheriff go walking in the woods to tare it up and they caught some fellers that decidede to go make a run off and they were all drunk lol yup they went to jail but my fellers didnt!

Fun! Popcorn was one of the more famous ones in the Tennessee area. The stories of that time were great. I think the story of their lives is a very romantic one. They chose it and whatever happened they seemed to be ready and willing to withstand for their way of life.

Good samaritan society. Yes, I am well aware of the annual Stugis event. I am a big backer of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle and their followers. Sturgis is a big party where all the bikers and fair fascimiles of get together and party. What a shindig! My goal is to get to one. Have the biker in mind too!
