What type of security software do you recomend?
Whe I got my computer it had sample for 2 months of Norton but it is a little expensive so I was luckin gfor other brand or options. What I found was amazing so many options either free software or at really nice price. But I have no idea how to shop for software so I do need all the help I can get. I you have any ideas please let me know.

Norton is pretty useless - probably why it gets bundled free with new computers -nobody would buy it otherwise.
I use Zone Alarm for firewall. http://www.zonealarm.com and Avast antivirus. http://www.alwil.com
Both are good and both have free basic versions for download and both are available with more features if you want to pay. Zone alarm for example comes with antivirus as well in the paid for version. There are other free antivirus programs that are good like AVG, but I've had no experience with them having found Avast to be pretty good.

As far as anti - virus protection is concerned, there is no difference between the free and paid versions with the programs that I've suggested. What you get with the paid for versions is extra features which I can't comment on as I have only ever used the free versions. Just go to the websites and have a look. You will find all the information there about what is and what is not included and then you can make an informed decision about going either with the free versions or not.

Thank you for your information I hope I can learn something from this since I really have to know this stuff. I will also like to ask you if you think that there is a difference between free and paid program? Is is a big difference?

Norton is crap and bogs down your system, so it's kind of a good thing that the trial has expired. Make sure you fully remove it before installing a new one. The anti-virus I use is Nod32 from e-set. It's the best anti-virus out there, but sadly, it's not free. It's only $30 a year, I think. So, that's not so bad, right? I would recommend Avast or AVG by Grisoft if you really want a free one, though.

Now that I remember it was Norton 360 I don't know if it makes a differnce. But the price on that was around 80 dollars for one year and 140 for two years. I will also check out your sites and see what they offer because 30 against 80 a year sounds good. I don't know what would be de diference between free and payed program, do they work the same?

No, I think Nod32 is better. Plus, it has advanced heuristics to help catch viruses before they're known about. I hope that makes sense. I also never really notice it running. It doesn't seem to slow the system down or anything like that. I'm very happy with it.

I use Avira. It is free and it is quite handy. I have been using it for the past years now, even before I got my own laptop. My laptop has a default McAffee installed but I am not contented with it.

if you want a free security software then i recommend you must go for avg
you can download the free version of avg from their website
http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-trial
or if you want to buy some security software then go for avg full version or mcafee total protection.
you can shop for these anti-virus softwares on their respective websites which are
avg -- http://www.avg.com/us-en/store
mcafee -- http://home.mcafee.com/Store/Store7.aspx?
or just check them out at amazon or ebay.
