Would you freeze half a bar of chocolate for another day?

The odd bar of chocolate lives in the freezer at the moment as it's the only place to stop it melting. We had a bar of white chocolate, the kind in squares, and ate half last week and put the rest in the freezer. Would you have that kind of self control or would the whole thing be gone in one sitting?

Hello henahuda, someone after my own heart, a slow frozen chocolate eater, I'm quite happy to leave it sitting there for another day too.

i tend to watch almost everything: weight, budget... if the chocolate says 3 servings then 3 sittings it would get. that would mean after 1/3 of the chocolate had been eaten i stop and have it another time. it's not surprising for anyone to find half-finished bars in our fridge.

Hi ritchelle, I've no idea where you dug up this old one from. I've never seen a bar of chocolate show the number of servings on a label, I thought the idea was to encourage us to eat it all and then buy more. Like you though I show restraint where chocolate is concerned, it's quite expensive here so we see it as a treat.

there is that recommended servings on the box or plastic if the chocolates comes in bits. like take the regular toblerone. they would say that that bar is 3 servings or something. it's always in the back so as, yes, to make it almost unnoticeable to make us eat more. local and of course imported chocolates have this. it is a must from every bureau of food in every country. i'd post another response with a picture of this since i don't want to spoil this response since i find posting pictures is almost impossible here nowadays. seems like mylot disable it or something...

I can put it away in the freezer and ignore it. I can even have it in the refrigerator and ignore it. Cookies are the things that speak my name and that I cannot leave alone.

Hi Garden Gerty, now is it really even ignoring it if it doesn't grab you that much in the first place but something else does? I could probably leave the chocolate there for quite a while but have a complete weakness for jelly beans, shared by my son who divides them out evenly. We can only get them in one supermarket an hours drive away and generally the packet is empty before we get home.

Embarassingly I have to say it would have all gone in one sitting. It's very rare than when I open a bar of chocolate I don't finish it and can only really think of Easter Eggs being the only real time when the chocolate lasts a few days, and before you say I am too old for easter eggs, my philosophy is you're never too old

Thea, are you trying to besmirch my good name by insinuating that I am a secret fan of parma ‘yuck’ violets? I always by myself an Easter egg and never pretend it’s for anyone other than myself. It’s the same when Christmas comes and the supermarket shelves are filled with jumbo size tubes of fruit pastilles I always by some for myself. After I replied I wondered whether the commercialism of Easter with chocolate eggs had it Greece yet. Trust me it will only get worse as the tradition grows and those old traditions get forgotten.

Of course I think you're a secret parma violet fan, bet you bought some earlier just to make me green. Now it's interesting about the tradition thing in Greece as Easter is the biggest celebration of the year and the traditional way didn't involve chocolate eggs at all. Dyed red hard boiled eggs were produced for a smashing contest and the children were bought fancy candles to take to church and then walk around the village afterwards in procession trying to keep the candles lit. That all still goes on but somehow chocolate eggs have started to emerge. It was the same with christmas, maybe a family meal of pork with celery as is traditional, no fuss at all, no cards, no lights, no trees. It was nice to not have the 3 month build up to xmas and commercialism. Then slowly the xmas lights began to adorn the outside of houses, a little more each year, until last year. Then they all began to see sense again when the price of electric went up through the roof and last year there were very few lights to be seen once more.

There is a sign in my credit union that says something to the effect of inner strength being the ability to break of only one square of chocolate, LOL. I have it written someplace; I will have to see if I can find it so I can tell you the exact words!

Hi Canellita, inner strength by being disciplined with choclolate, excellent indeed as it now shows I have inner strength (nothing at all to do with feeling a bit sickly if I eat too much of it.) I shall look foward to the full quotation.

It depends on the brand of chocolate. If it is one of my favorites, like galaxy, then it would probably be eaten in one go... Becuase of this I don't really buy chocolate that often. If it isn't in the house then I can't eat it.. I don't like white chocolate though, so I could easily resist this if it was in my home.

Hi Tiamjr, so sorry but I never realised your response had been sat here until it got revived. You've probably forgot what you responded to by now. I can understand your method, if its not there you can't over indulge. Usually the only time I fancy it is when there's none in the house but now this has been reopened I'm very much aware of the half finished bar of dark chocolate covered marzipan sitting upstairs.

I used to have no self- control about eating too much, once I bought snacks, they can't sit at home more than 1 or 2 days, I kinda feel I NEED to finish them... but now I have got a lot better about controling not eating too much, I don't really feel I want to eat a lot of snacks lately which helps so I only eat some when I want, then I put the rest away.

Hi mermaidivy, well done for overcoming your NEED. It's funny, I don't each much chocolate at all and the only time I really want it is when there isn't any in, which is probably why I don't bother with it when I know there's some in the freezer.

In this hot summer, the uneaten chocolate has to be left in the refrigerator. We have small bars, convenient for use at a time. With big ones, we do need self control. Sharing with family members or friends is good too.

hi zhuhuifen, I share my chocolate with my son but discourage him from eating too much. He's okay about me putting it back in the freezer as long as he can trust me not to reach it out again after he's sleeping.

Hi thea09, I am not a chocolate lover and rarely eat it. Usually I can't finish the whole bar at once whenever I ate chocolate. I will share it with someone else. Otherwise, I will put it in the freezer so I can eat it on the next day. Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Hi akuler, I too can take it or leave it but it does taste better after being in the freezer, it takes longer to melt in the mouth.

I always have only a small piece of the whole bar of chocolate and keep the remaining in the freezer. I mostly consume it only the next day so I feel I have some amount of self control in me.

Hello yogambal, definitely you show self control. To be honest I bet that the ones who eat it all outnumber the nibblers.
