Who would you fire?

My friend was picking up something to eat this morning and heard two people. I don't know who they were or where they work, but she said they talking about how they have to cut costs and fire people. There's one guy who's kind of slacking off, but they feel bad to fire him because he has a family. Then they were talking about this other guy who does ok, but they don't feel bad because he's single. Who would you fire? An ok employee who's single or a not so good employee who has a family?

I am glad I don't have to make those type of decisions how awful.Well everyone on their merits in this day and age it would have to be the family man who was slacking off although I might ask him why he was slacking off, maybe his wife was ill or one of the kids.I would do this first and then if nothing was wrong I would get rid of him.Why should the single guy suffer if he is doing a good job, after all he probably lives on his own and would find it hard to pay the rent and have no one.The married man could probably collect enough benefit and get help.Plus he would have the added advantage of a partner to see him through.

I'd let the slacker go! As his supervisor, I've already addressed his issues and tried to work with him to make him a better employee, so it's time to let him go even if we're not trying to cut costs.
If the other guy is just "ok", he's going to need step up now, or else he may find himself being replaced by someone who is better than OK!

If you ran a company I've sure it'd be in good shape. It seems like you really know how to handle things.

This is a very good question. I would probably cut company spending to be able to keep people at work. Good economy depends on people working, not unemployment....

This is an original idea. I never would have thought of it. Thanks for posting.

No, I wouldn't want a slacker on the payroll. It's not fair to those who work.
