SUPRISE! your discussion is missing

I have just responded to one of my friends post last night saying she already reached another milestone here. I thought of not giving my comment but I've got a second thought. I told her that her discussion might get deleted. I'll tell you why. This week, I finished browsing all my previous discussions. From the time I started in the Lot, until the last topic that I posted, I made copies of them in my desktop, one by one. I found out that I have already posted about 175 discussions. And when I saw her discussion last night, I remember I also posted about my own milestones before. I reached my 100th so i've got a star, my 200th now i have emoticons, my 500th now i can copy/paste, and so on. And what I retrieved from "discussions i've started", kind of discussions like that are missing. This only proves that myLot is true to its guidelines. And what the guidelines say about milestone? DON'T: Start discussions promoting a milestone, such as birthdays, anniversaries, reaching a certain myLot rating, etc. This is best celebrated via private messaging with your myLot friends. Check the guidelines now! Review it every now and then. And you might find out what you are missing. So don't get surprised. http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

Hi Neil, I remembered that disucssion as well but also there are other things which we should not discuss about ratings dropping, which I have learned, it is easy to forget sometimes so its good to just go back and check then you won't be in trouble, thanks Neil for reminding us. Tamara

yes it is really true. I also tried to monitor some of my discussions. I still remember last week when I discussed about my tenure here in the site. After a day when I am about to check on the responses on the said discussion, it was gone, it means to say that it was deleted. You are right, we should be very careful. Thank you for reminding us again of the guidelines.i also responded to the discussion of that said person so my response was also deleted.lol.

we really have to be very careful in starting a discussion. and even in responding to some of them. you start a discussion and no matter how much people like it, no one will earn from it if it violates a rule. the discussion's gone and so as the responses.

Neil your discussion brings me a huge smile and I am so pleased when I see another user helping out our friends here and guiding them If we can all be aware of what we can do and what we cannot do and do not make the mistake of celebrating these milestones in a discussion, only to see it deleted later, we shall see no more of those discussions where users complain about lost posts and earnings. I am saddened by those too because it means that a fellow Lotter is unhappy for something that could have been avoided Then that discussion will also be deleted It may seem that it is time wasted to be aware of the Guidelines beacause we are not earning while reading but that is NOT the case. We will earn so much more later by knowing what to avoid.

I saw that you had discovered some of my older discussions I think many of us take things lightlyhere when we are new and Idid too. Those dicussions were meant to help any user and help them not to trip up while travelling round the Lot. I know they have been useful tomany here and sometimes even the very old ones reappear. You call it interesting Anang. I think we humans are just born with the complaint button always set on 'go' Once in a while we should stop and think and realise where the fault lies

you know madam, i would like to give the credit to you for this discussion. it is actually you, mysdiana that i put some serious work here in the Lot. i went over you discussions, i've learned more. what more i learned for being here over a year wasn't enough when i saw your discussions. i felt so incomplete. but you thought me a lot. i am really lucky to have you as my friend. more power.

The deleted posts are followed with reduce amounts of our earnings that have been added before. Sometimes we the user complain about reducing earnings than amount of posts they have. What is more interesting than that?

Hi neil, I don't remember having posted any milestone discussion before (maybe). Most of my topics were just crazy and yes I may have violated other rules one way or another. But there was a time, like 2 years ago, when myLot seemed to tolerate them. They definitely had to strengthen their regulation now as more and more members are coming in and creating some clutter in the process intentionally or not. It is good that we keep on reminding people to always take into account the myLot rules. It is also key to everyone's survival you know?

hi ice. i see that too, mylot maybe not that strict before but not these days. there is even one discussion i read yesterday saying "myLot admin is so fast". i have started it long ago, going with the flow of waters, veterans alike keep reminding not only the new comers, about the importance of being aware of the rules and the guidelines. but even veterans like me still are not being spared of deletion of posts.

Hi Neil, The other day I checked on one of my friends's post which I responded, I wanted to check some details which I wrote in my response. I normally open from my email so it's easier to find. I was surprised the discussion was deleted. My friend had a very informative topic regarding myLot, how to increase earnings, the stars, even emoticons - and it's gone! I felt sad because I really enjoyed his topic. You're right, we have to be careful about the topics we start. Don't you think this one can also be deleted as it's still about myLot?

I can't help wondering if it was the post by a user which was a copy of an earlier discussion or even the one that was copied from a blog There are just so many things here that are not original and iot is so unfair that those users post them and then cause others to lose out too

hi doryvien. myLot guidelines says: DON'T Post to "flame" other users! Being mean to others is just not fun. Anything derogatory that is directed at a myLot user is strictly prohibited... DON'T Start discussions on individual issues you are having with myLot... DON'T Post anything that inaccurately explains the myLot earnings algorithm... these are just some parts that i thought might have caused for the deletion of your friend's discussion. this is just my opinion after i reviewed the rules. i think it's everything there, it's already written and all we have to do is to follow.

Hi Mysd, I don't think it was copied. He discussed about the "storm that has just passed", referring to the week prior when some nasty members spread negative rumors about myLot bacause the earnings failed to update for some time. After a few days myLot came out with an advisory assuring members that it's here to stay. My friend actually came to the defense of myLot and extensively discussed the good things about this site. He went on the give more "tips" on how to be productive here. I wonder what could have offended the management or someone to have reported it for deletion? It got me more confused.

Can't someone tell me what is really wrong about promoting milestones? I guess I'm not seeing it. I would think that'd be a moment of applause from your friends. If it's a rule, it's a rule. I just don't seem the reason behind it, unless someone is able to tell me why? Just wondering is all.

Probably because there are SO many similar discussions and they don't want them all cluttering up the space, I suppose... ? I think they want more original content and variety.

Mylot seems to have a lot of these discussions though. I do remember posting my own about milestones. While being happy about uncovering a new feature is exciting, It's also as the first poster said, wasting everyone's time. Sadly, I see too many discussion violations ina day. If we all didn't violate, then we'd probably be a few cents richer!

Very appropriate discussion, neil. I've seen others reminding the newer members of certain rules and guidelines here because some get so upset when they find a discussion of theirs has been deleted and don't understand why. I think a lot of us join myLot but don't really pay much attention to the rules and regulations; we just kind of breeze through them or don't read them at all, then are very surprised when one or more of our discussions are deleted. I, thankfully, did read them all because I'm basically one of those obnoxious goody-goodies who tries to obey all laws, even those in places like myLot. However, I posted one of those 'milestone' discussions a long time ago. It may be deleted by now but I know it wasn't deleted for quite some time! I have one friend here who posted a similar discussion and his was deleted almost immediately. At that time, I checked on the one I had posted months earlier and it was still there. I think a large part of that had to do with the fact that I did not mention it in the subject line of my discussion, he did. When our milestones are mentioned in the subject line, they are much easier for the administration here to spot and delete for violating one of their rules. I mentioned my milestone in the body of my discussion. I guess that's why it lasted longer. But, it's always good to remind the newbies of certain rules that are sure to get discussions deleted if they are broken. It saves everyone time and money! Now, I'll have to go back and check to see if mine is still here or not. It may take awhile because I've started a LOT of discussions. LOL Now, just as a P.S. to you, neil, (because you've been worried) I want you to know that I'm feeling better, health-wise. I'm still having the palpitations and the doctors have not been able to figure out what is causing them, other than just plain stress. I see the cardiologist this Thursday, so I'll most likely be put on yet another medication to help lower my stress level, or at least lower my body's reaction to it.

hi mentalward, thank you for appreciating this discussion. i just thought of making my stay here more productive and helpful, especially to newbies. one of my new friends who came to be my referral, also made a discussion when she reached her 100th. and i forgot to inform her not to post about it. and unfortunately, in her excitement and i was also happy for her achievement, i actually told her that she can post about it. and days later, she lost a point and remember that it might be her milestone post that was gone, and it came out true. and this time, i will be very very careful with my discussions. likewise, i will always be the guide to my new friends here, going along the Lot. I saw your posts, regarding you health, but sadly, i run out of time, to answer them. maybe i was so busy with the ones i started. but i am happy for you, that you are now feeling better. and hope that your cardiologists will also find negative in your next check-up... take care always...

Yes, you are right. All of us should stick on to the guidelines for not to be sad and waste time by responding to discussions which will get deleted. I usually don't pay much attention to the number of posts I have. But, yesterday I noticed that it was 1399 and this morning I found that it is only 1396. It means three responses are delted by the mylot team. I think I should be careful hereafter.

problem with deletion is that you can never know which of the discussions you have responded to were actually deleted. we just say, ow, my number of post goes down again, and we will get surprised. and just like rberon said, if we will monitor our number of posts, we can tell that there was something we had violated.

we should try to monitor the number of posts that we have. so that we will know we are violating the rules or guidelines or not. You are right that we should be very careful for us not to be banned in the site.

don't be surprised. it happened to me too. when i just joined the website, i received payment from a website. i was excited. i posted on mylot and wanted to let another members to know the information, i got a couple of replies too. i was very happy for it. at the second day when i logged on mylot website again, i found my discussion was missed. i don't know why? i clearlu understood the rules of it and i also paid attention on the topic i lauched. there was no similar topic on it. how come it was removed? also i found sometimes my points were down, it meant i replied some not properly posted discussion. it's really a chanllege to be a qualified member of mylot.

If a discussion says 'I got paid' it is a milestone too. If it mentions the site it then becomes a promotion and how many discussions like that are there already? That makes it also a repeat.

Wow, I read the guidelines, and somehow I missed that one! So thanks for sharing that. I guess that would be why, when I posted my 100th post, it was deleted and no one saw my star! Haha, its kind of funny now that I think about it, but I won't be posting anymore about milestones! And I soooo didn't know I got emoticons at 200 posts, so thanks for sharing that too!

This brings back the good old worse days in my old account. most specially i post that topic about me reaching 500 post. and some had complaint about me violating the rules, then others like diana came in to prove that i was wrong. Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten about that one. But it does kind of make sense that they wouldn't want us to post about milestones. Can you imagine the glut of discussions if everyone posted about trivial stuff like 'reached 500!' and stuff like that. Anyway, I'm constantly seeing those discussions. Newbies are always making that mistake. And, I rarely respond to those kind of discussions and when I do, I'm not too surprised when the entire discussion along with my own response gets deleted.

That's right, there are still lots of them and mostly are from newbies. Just like what I did with my friend's, I responded though I know it will go together with my response and of others who did. i gave her warning and advised to review the rules. That,s what I know to help her and not get surprised when she looks for that said discussion in the next few days.

True dat! They've become even stricter and that's perfectly fine but I have this strong feeling that they are a bit short handed and need some helping hands. I base this on the fact that posts get removed for the smallest violations but posts who are clearly against guidelines are sometimes kept alive for hours.

Welcome to myLot then. You know, everyone of us here should be working under the rules (not above) and though most read it (and most just read the rules after committing mistakes or when some other people told them they got wrong), there are also those who forgot that it exists. They shouldn't get surprised when their discussions gone, no more complains. Review the rules or call admin's attention thru PM if they are in doubt.
