Do You Do Your Christmas Shopping Early?

My mother used to ask me what I wanted for Christmas in July because she wanted to do her Christmas shopping early. It was always so hard for me to think about Christmas in July, though. When I sold Avon, we would come out with our Christmas books in July and we were trained to start getting our customers to thinking about Christmas. Most of my customers would groan at the thought of Christmas and I'm sure some of you are groaning now, lol! I used to shop for Christmas early because I dreaded the crowds. Also, it was easy to shop from Avon because I could pick out things for my family from the book. I had one customer who told me that her mother had always taught her to shop early for Christmas and then she would have time to enjoy the parties, etc. Some people enjoy the rush of shopping right before Christmas. How about you? Do you shop for Christmas early? Or do you wait till about November or December to start shopping?

You have some cute pictures posted here. Thank you for sharing these. Yes, it does take time to get ready for Christmas, doesn't it? I know all of your children and grandchildren enjoy it, though. Kathy.

as for the moment my friend kathy its not my priority. but if i could have enough money for it. then maybe, i could shop an early purchases for our christmas needs. though i dont like the christmas rush but its much more appropriate for me to just hang for a moment and maybe save for it. its more easier this way, i guess! jhelai

It is hard to think about Chrsitmas in the summertime, isn't it? I just got in the habit when I sold Avon years ago because I had to get my customers to thinking about it around July. It's understandable if you don't have any money. In that case, it's better to wait, I guess. I don't shop for Christmas any more because I'm living on such a small income and my family has gotten so big. I miss it but my family understands my situation. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

It's great that you have started a savings account for them. I'm sure it will come in handy someday. I'm sure your kids really appreciate the money and I'm sure they can use it. Money is a nice gift. Kathy.

GOOD MORNING KATHY, My sons have always liked to get money. I usually try to get them a gift but last christmas i just wasn't up to getting out & shopping. We don't have a whole lot of places to shop here & they are hard to please so by giving them money they can buy what they want. I think the grandkids will be happy some day w/what little dab i manage to save for them. Have a good sunday.

It does not hurt the budget nearly so much if we start now. I love to find special hand crafted things to give as gifts, as well.

I love Christmas, but I never had this idea before, early Christmas shopping?? Few months away?? I love to shop in early November or December with full of Christmas spirit, but I still think it's a brilliant idea. :)

Yes, it's a very good idea because you can avoid the christmas rush. Some people like the spirit of the christmas rush but it can get very hectic for others, like me, for example. You also don't have to stand in long lines at different places. I know this can happen anytime of year but it just seems like the lines are longer at christmastime. Like I said in my discussion, if you do your christmas shopping early, you have time to enjoy all the parties in December. I like to go walking at the mall at christmastime. I know one year, they played christmas music over the intercom and that made my walk more enjoyable. Kathy.

I like to go shopping. If I have free time, and decent price Christmas stuff is in front of me, I will definitely check them out. Normally, my family always do the Christmas shopping late in November.

I always liked to go shopping. However, I'm living on SSI now and my family is helping me out with my expenses. I miss Christmas shopping because I always enjoyed it. My family understands my situation, though. It sounds like your family likes to hit the after Thanksgiving sales, don't they? I don't blame you for wanting to go ahead and check out the decent price christmas stuff in front of you. Happy mylotting! Kathy.

I have some ideas alsready and I just need to get them going. I am buying plaques made by my clients and part of a supported workshop that gets them extra profits. Other than that,I have not started yet. I will have an afghan made for my newest grandbaby as well.

The plaques sound like very good gift ideas. I bet the afghan is going to be pretty, too. How old is your newest grandbaby? Is it a boy or a girl? Kathy.

Hi cher913! I imagine with the economy the way it is, people won't be shopping for Christmas as much as they usually do this year. I used to enjoy Christmas shopping but I can't afford it these days. I miss it but I'm living on a small income. My family understands my situation. I like to go walking at the mall at this time of year. One year, they had Christmas music over the intercom and that made my walk more enjoyable. Just enjoy the holiday, anyway.

I think doing Christmas shopping at November isn't early. And I do it during that month. Though it is a "ber" month, people are not that mindful of the coming christmas thing.

I always say to each his own. I just feel like the earlier the better. I don't shop for Christmas like I used to because of my financial situation. I miss it because I always enjoyed it. My family knows my situation and understands, though. I just like to avoid the Christmas rush and the long lines. Kathy.

I have been trying every year to do it early. I never succede but I have a plan now. Some time soon I am going to start. What I will do is make a list of everyone to buy for. I will buy one gift every now an then up untill I am either done or its christmas. The idea is to get shopping done by november. SO even buy a gift every week or every other week. Also I have been putting money back for christmas. So I buy everyone else's gift early but then use the saved money to shop for my son at the last minute. THe problem is finding where to hide the gifts.

I actually bought quite a lot when I visited my daughter in the States earlier this year. The sales were incredible and so I bought many small Xmas gifts for family and friends. I hate the rushing around now although I did enjoy it when I was younger. I like things organised and don't multi task easily now that I am older. I enjoy cooking for all my children and grands if any are on the Island. It is wonderful to be together and worship together

I try to get my shopping done early, because when I fly home for Christmas from school, there isn't much time to get any shopping done - just a few days. I start in September or October and get most of it done. I have six people in my immediate family, plus friends to shop for. I usually have one or two people left to shop for when I get home though, so I have to quickly find something to get them! It's kind of hectic, but as finals approach when I'm up at school, I don't have time to finish my shopping. December is a pretty hectic month!

I try to get it done early because if you leave it too late there will be nothing left! One time i left it till 24th December and boom there was nothing at the stores i asked them if they had like backup stock or anything but they didn't and they were closed for Christmas so i was left without presents ^^.

I never have thought about nothing being left by Christmas Eve. As far as I know, none of the stores around here have had that problem. It takes the fun out of Christmas if you wait this long, in my opinion. I also don't like the long lines in some of the stores. I know this can happen anytime of year but it seems like it's worse at Christmastime. Kathy.

Well, since all of my family lives aways from us, and most of them we just get Gift cards for, I do not have to really worry about this one, but back when I had family around here I was known to start early. Now with my husband I usually try to save up some of my online earnings to where I can buy something nice for him from this.

The gift card sounds like a very good idea. That way, they can pick out whatever they want from the store where the gift card is from. It's also nice that you buy your husband something from your online earnings. Thank you for responding and happy mylotting. Kathy.

Hey cyrus! No way can I even start to think about Christmas in July! I am like most people and love to wait until December! I just like to wait until the stores are all decorated and I am starting to feel in the holiday spirit! I have to first feel the Thanksgiving Holiday and slowly ease my way into Christmas! I would like to enjoy the summer and then the fall first! We rush our lives away as it is! I would like to enjoy the seasons as the get here so I am very much against even thinking about Christmas in the summer! Sorry!

Hey Opal! How are you doing? Like I always say, to each his own. I used to like to wait till December to start shopping. However, I got tired of fighting the crowds and waiting in line at different places. Yes, it's very true that we rush our lives too much! That's why I like to take my time. I feel like when people take their time at whatever they are doing, they do a better job. That's what I was taught when I was growing up, anyway. Kathy.

How I wish I could make it earlier this time as that's one of my little disappointments, always shopping late at christmas. Though joining the crowd of christmas rush shopping is quite enjoyable still I would prefer an early christmas shopping.

I know just how you feel. I hope you do get to make it early, though. It's hard to get everybody to thinking about Christmas in the summer. One year they played Christmas music over the intercom and that made my walk more enjoyable. Kathy.

I wish I could afford to shop for Christmas. I always enjoyed it when I did. I'm living on a low income and my family has gotten so big, anyway. They understand, anyway. Some of my family never even says "thank you" for their gifts and I decided it wasn't worth it to buy gifts for that bunch. They live far away, anyway. Thank you for responding and I hope you have a good night/day, whatever it is where you live. Kathy.

No need to shop for Christmas so early . Actually we don't shop a lot for Christmas day in China. We only will eat outside or sing outside during that period . We don't have any real things to celebrate Christmas at hom and we just follow that atmosphere especially for the young people . People just have fun with some excuse.
