I know it's supposed to be a bloke thing to read while your answering the call of nature, but I've actually brushed up on my reading since I decided to give it a go. I have finished reading two books while on the toilet and now reading the newspaper or magazine while on the toilet is more interesting!I often wondered why my former housemate took ages in the toilet. At first I thought he was just wanking but then he said he read while poopooing. (yuk this is really a disgusting topic) I never understood why men read on the toilet so I decided to give it a go.. It's actually very interesting and I get to read much faster and understand what I'm reading more clearly, and usually finish what I'm reading earlier than expected. I guess coz of the solitude and no one will disturb you as long as you have the door locked. So guys put on your honest shoes and tell me if you read or not, and if you do what do you read?

Hello, Jelly. I like to just do what has to be done and get out again, but my brother, his wife and two girls all read in the toilet. They even have a magazine rack in there with a selection of different reading! When we stay there, I usually pick up a magazine and take it out to read, then I get told off if I forget to put it back. I don't know if the two things are related, but my brother's family use more toilet rolls than anyone I know. Do you think there's a connection there?

Not sure about the connection thing there sandra but I'm guessing there is some kind of connection. Maybe the peace and solitude triggers the comfort zone hormones and cause them to clean up more and therefore using more tissues?

I would have to say Yes I do read on the toilet. I know I am not a guy but most of the guys I know read while on the toilet to. It is just something some people do it gives you something to do while you are doing your business in there instead of looking at a wall the whole time.

Yea, that's the point.

Hands up every time I go to the loo I take some form of reading material in with me, either magazine or book. I find the lack of distractions means that I will read a lot more in those moments I am sitting on the pan and it’s a lot more interesting than staring at the back of the door. Now I know this is sad but I remember once not having any reading material so picked up an air freshner and read the information on the back.

Haha! I have read on the toilet before but I usually don't do it. I tend to just go in to do my business and then go back to whatever else I was doing. I know my parents do this because they keep books beside their toilet. I can understand how you would be able to focus better because of the solitude. I feel like sometimes my only time alone in the day is my bathroom/shower time. Maybe I should try reading on the toilet so that my books will go faster. haha! Good discussion topic!

You should. I find it very peaceful and its the best place I enjoy the most to be myself. When I went to Japan they have sophisticated toilets in their hotel rooms. They got a little TV screen, a dvd player, ipod and they also have an automatic cleanser which means you don't do any cleaning up after your business. You just sit down and everything else is done for you. The toilet seat is like a massage chair. Faboulos.. you get a massage while getting giggy with it! aparently thats why Japan has one of the lowest depression rates in the world. But that was amazing

This is definitely a topic that I never would have imagined to see discussed, but I have to admit, I'm a bathroom reader. I learned it from my father who was also a bathroom reader. At our old house it was always whatever magazine was handy (large family of bathroom readers). Now that we are at the new house it is typically a chapter of whatever book I'm reading at the time. And very often the book is left on the back of the toilet throughout the day, but it goes into the bedroom with me at night because I also read before going to sleep. I can also tell you that I know my two year old will be a bathroom reader too. When I leave my books in the bathroom it is a frequent event to lose by page because while he is sitting on the throne he will pick it up and pretend to read as well. So glad to know that I'm not alone in this world of bathroom reading.

I always read when I am on the toliet. Thats where most of my reading gets done. Its quiet in there and its nice to have something to do while I am sitting there. I keep my books in there on the shelf so I can just grab one. i have also read the newspaper in there.

My toilet is my comfort room. For your info I have built a small rack inside my toilet where I keep a small collection of books where I can easily reach out in case I am in hurry to answer nature's call. But most of the time I will read any printed materials inside the toilet while doing my business. So yes, I read in the toilet. It is a habit formed since I was young and if I have recorded the books I read while I am in the toilet I could have achieved something worth a keep, maybe a degree in some discipline.

yeah, I like to read news paper and magazines when I am in the toilet seat. I like doing so because I think it is a best way to save my time, LOL. but I normally will not do it very long, I could not finish reading 1 whole book or news paper. Lately , I just give away reading habit while in the toilet. I prefer to do something with my sms inbox and outbox. I clear my inbox message and at the same time go trough some old sms. It can save up some time.

No no no i'm not a toilet reader and never be one because it only takes one minute for me to finish . How can i read ? i just don't understand why people will spend so much time in toilet . If they need a long time doing some reading is a quite good choice .

Being in the toilet gives the privacy. People tend to disturb you less when you are there. It's your private time. So, it is best to have some books around. Or magazines. I have known some who leave books in the toilet. Like a mini library. Why not? It is a good idea. I read novels and newspapers in the toilet, but I am not one who can spend a long time there. Not comfortable. Sometimes I force myself to read at least one chapter before I decide that my time is up in there. I heard that Madonna writes lyrics in the toilet. Yup. You heard that right.

Yes! It's quiet and away from distractions.... My boyfriend actually does it too. He brings in laptop in with him! I usually read mail or I bring my BlackBerry in with me and read my email or texts! He reads online forums and comic books!

Yes, I admit it. I am not a closet reader but a bathroom reader. I have magazines, and books in every bathroom in my house. I have been guilty of having three books going at one time, one in each bathroom. I like mostly mystery type books but will occasionally pick up a steamy romance. I also like books about personal finance, and home management. I also read magazines if I am in between books. Reading helps me to relax, and being a work at home mom of three it is really the only time I get a few minutes to myself everyday.

Exactly, it is easy to concentrate on what you are reading, because you are not distracted by other people, or the tv being on or the such while you are in the bathroom. I always keep a supply of magazines on the back of my toilet for just such occasions. Also a small hand held electronic solitaire game. I guess i am and always have been a multi-tasker, and like to be "productive" no matter what i am doing.

I grew up in a home where the bathroom was another library, with books and magazines stacked high. Problem was, there were 2 adults and 7 children, and often people pounded on the door to get someone in there to hurry up because they needed to go [Not like we had 2 or 3 bathrooms in the house; we just had one]! I still carry on the habit of reading in the bathroom, but I don't think I do it as often as my mother. She worked nights as a nurse and raised 7 kids; the only time she had to read was while in the bathroom. I, however, prefer to take my book into the tub while soaking the stress of the day away. If the water's hot enough I can usually get through a chapter of a good book. I do have a cross-stitch that I did, and have it hanging in the bathroom, of a bunny with a book sitting on the 'throne' that says 'no parking during rush hour'. It reminds me of how things were when I was growing up.

I'm a toilet reader! I don't know why it's a habit, but it is, haha! I usually read novels, or newspapers. I think it's mostly cause I fall asleep if reading on the bed, and then I get antsy if I sit in a chair for too long. I pay much more attention when I'm reading on the toilet. xD
