This is actually something that sounds worse than it needs to be. Please let me explain. I had a friend who was actually almost old enough to be my mother and I was about 19 years old at the time. She was almost six feet tall and was always about 145 pounds in all the time I knew her. She was divorced and I don't think she ate real good, not that she couldn't afford to but I think she didn't enjoy cooking for only one. She started loosing weight and was doing a lot of vomiting, the doctors couldn't find anything wrong. She would start getting to feeling better than felt hungry so she tried dry toast or a sandwich and sick again. Before long she was down to 78 pounds and we all thought she was going to die and nearly did. The family was called in and she was hospiitalized for what was going to be the end. She was checked for liver, gall bladder it didn't matter all came back good yet she was dying. Finally a specialist found she had celiac disease and none of us knew what it was at that time. It didn't take long and my friend was home from hospital and gained all her weight back plus. All it really meant was that she could never again eat anything made from rye/grain. No bread no pasta no gravy or anything using flour. She had to do any baking or thickening stews etc with rice flour/corn starch and she ate rice cakes in place of bread and cake made from grain. The rice cakes were like stirofoam and was a whole new learning experience but she lived a long life in the end. Now a days the health food stores are better stocked with helpful info and products. Good luck. It will take patience and it does have life altering changes but if you care for yourself it'll be just fine dear friend!!!

Potato starch also provides a good alternative, and there are tons of recipes on the internet. The people I have known with gluten allergy or celiac disease made all sorts of improvements when they learned how to eat right for them.

its a digestive disease that attacks the small intestines. you'll have problems eating food made from wheat and most types of cereals. do you experience diarrhea when you eat these types of food? better avoid these food or foods with certain type of protein called "gluten". just check the web what those food are. goodluck.

My aunt was diagnosed in her later years with Celiac disease, also known as celiac sprue. You will need to do some research to find things to make that do not contain gluten. You will need to consult with your doctor to see which foods you are sensitive to and replace them with something else.

I don't have celiac disease. I've never heard of it that I know of. What is it, exactly? I hope your lab results come back good and that you don't have it. Please know I will be praying for you. Kathy.

Never mind. I read the above discussions and I'm so sorry you've been having these problems. I'm glad to know that you don't have celiac disease, though. I will be praying that everything will go well for you with the digestive doctor. I had gallbladder surgery in 2005 and I tell you, it's no fun!Kathy.
