The first few times I ate Wonder bread it was stickey in my mouth and I could wad a slice up into a ball. I wondered what was in it? I was spoiled by my mom';s home baked wholewheat bread. I love good whole grain brain, but wonder bread? Do you ever wonder what Wonder bread is made of? Do you think this is a whole grain product?

When I was in first grade we visited one of the places where they make Wonder Bread. It was just bread in those days Of course these days God only knows what is actually in any product. Personally I do not wonder what is in Wonder Bread

We don't have wonder bread here in our place. But we have "french bread" though it's not baked in France. We also have "hot pan de sal" which is usually available from the bakery nearby.

neildc you havent missed a thing wonder bread is gummy whollywithout any nutritional value and without much in the way of flavor. I love hot pan de sal. I also love the crusty Italian loaves hot from the oven slathered with real butter. yum

Bread - Special kind of bread
I have not come across the name of bread you mentioned here. I do make and bake my own bread but this is the first time that I head of this special name of bread. I am curious what is so special in this bread that calls for the special name.

hi zandi homemade is always the very best yummy and good. I think its named wonder as it keeps a long time because'it'is full of chemicals to make it stay fresh, yuck, and gummy if one likes'gummy bread that is. Its white and not fullof any real nutrition at all. Its ony speciality seems to be its long shelf life which is sad as its not really fit for good health at all.

Oh you are right, Hatley...it is extremely sticky bread. I just bought some last week as it was on sale....hadn't had it in years. I imagine there are so many preservatives in it and lord only knows what else. My gram used to bake bread all the time and that is what I grew up on as well. I do prefer the whole wheat or oatmeal bread or the multi-grain. They are so very expensive though that I can rarely afford them. They are nearly 4.00 per loaf around here unless there is a good sale going on.

hi sid yep its fullof chemicals and preservative which make'it'stay so called fresh forever.its nil in nutrition and is just made'og white flour and a lot of additives. I love home made bread fresh 'from the oven with lots of butter on it,and prefer multi 'grain breads.

As far as I know it's made out of bleached wheat that is milled to be super-fine. That's why it has that ball-forming soft texture. I'm with you in prefering bread with more substance to it. My mother never made bread but she always kept a whole grain load and a 'mushy' white loaf (that my dad preferred). I usually have to buy 2 loaves too. My son and I like heartier bread and my husband and step-daughter like softer ones. Wadded up balls of soft bread are good for throwing...lol. My dog loves chasing after it, but I never get it back.

I know that its far less nutritous than my multi grain'breads that I really prefer yet some people really like the stuff. I say' if its so gummy you can make a ball out of it then its not' really fit to eat nutrition wise. I prefer whole grain bread'with texture and flavor and healthy wholegrains.

catdla1 hi I like the heartier breads also.oh for peanut butter put on celery sticks,I love that and ' my mom did that when I was a kid. another one that 'was wholly not good for you she used to do was put cake'frosting' between two saltines and give it to me,of course I loved'it being I always had a horrible sweet tooth. But her healthy dish she'called' scalloped tomatoes was actually good for you, just stewed tomatos' with whole wheat bread crumbs in it,and now fancy cafes 'serve that and call it tomato salad.live and learnl

I'm sure that nutrient-containing ingredients are added, and in many cases it's probably looks healthier than heartier whole-grain breads. Whether or not our bodies can actually absorbe the nutrition is another thing. My feeling is why mess with nature that works, right? I did remember one thing I used to do with the mushy bread. When my step daughter was younger and had sleep overs, I used to nuke a bowl of peanut butter (so that it was runnier), and give the girls a mushy loaf of bread. They had fun rolling the 'fondue' balls to dip into the peanut butter, along with celery sticks. It was a better snack for them than potato chips and they had more fun with it. Our dogs took care of the crumbs, so it was a good solution.

I never really thought about it, but I don't get Wonder bread anyways. I try to get the whole grain bread, because it is supposed to be better for you. Homemade bread is definitely the best, though. Second to that is crusty Italian bread fresh out of the oven from a bakery.

No,it is not a whole grain product. I do not even wonder about that. I often considered it to be just white foam rubber, with a brown edge. I prefer my bread to have some personality, a little get up and go. You know they do dough art with Wonder Bread and white glue.

hi GardenGerty right on, white foam rubber with a brown'edge and it has about as much flavor as the white pellets we pack stuff in'to mail out. i like my bread fullof flavor and nutrition and whole'grain to boot.it must give me something healthy or i wont eat it. I like'to make my meals good for me as well as them tasting good.

yum home baked bread is the best. As for wonder bread... kids seem to like it a lot, so I guess it must be full of sugars and processed stuff. I don't really know. I think that wonder bread might sell some whole wheat stuff too, but I'm sure it won't be as good as your mom's bread. Nothing beats fresh bread.
